Water Pressure Problems?

Water Pressure Problems?

When I do my house inspections, I always get asked; “What can I do about the low water pressure?”
Low pressure is often noted inside the building, even though the piping inside the building seems to be a good size and in good condition. The culprit is often the old or undersized water service piping, or a combination of both.
Reduced water pressure and flow are inconvenient for homeowners at best. In sever circumstances; the plumbing system may not be capable of providing showers while any other fixtures are operating.
Most problems for loss of pressure in older homes is due to the galvanized pipes. Galvanized pipes clog easily, especially as they get older. Rust and mineral deposits accumulate on the inside of the pipe, eventually stopping the flow of water completely. Vertical galvanized water lines don't collect sediment as quickly as water lines that run horizontally. Most galvanized pipes create water pressure problems before they close up completely.
Galvanized pipes are incompatible with standard brass or copper valves and fittings. According to plumbing experts, when steel and brass or copper meet, the steel pipe corrodes much more quickly. Some joining techniques reduce this effect, but do not completely remove it. Plumbing experts recommend that homeowners who want to replace galvanized steel or iron pipe in their homes remove the entire galvanized pipe at once. Connections between the new copper pipe and old galvanized pipe can break down quickly, creating leaks and clogs. Consult a plumbing specialist with detailed questions.
