It seems that no matter how much space we have, it's never enough. This is especially true when it comes to closet space. Give us a few inches of empty space and we will quickly cram it to capacity. If you're tired of living with little to no room in your closet, here are several ways to make a small closet bigger in no time flat. No building required!
Clean out the closet - Unfortunately, you've got to clean out the closet to get more closet space. Yes, this is the part everyone hates. Remove everything from the closet so that you're working with a blank canvas, so to speak. Remove shoes, clothing, bags, and accessories, and vacuum or sweep the closet floor while it's empty. No telling what's lurking in those corners!
Double your hanger capacity - If your closet is like most, you have one single rod at eye level. But what about all that space underneath? Maximize closet space by mounting a second rod about 3 feet from the ground. This shorter rod is great for shorter clothing or items that can be folded.
Space-saving clothes hangers - Toss out your traditional hangers and replace them with space-saving ones instead. Hangers don't have to just hold one piece of clothing anymore! Some models fold down so that they hold five or six garments at a time. Others are designed to display the clothes back to front on the rod, instead of side to side.
