I had never considered real estate as a source of income. My father in law, used real estate as a career, as had a couple of friends - but it always seemed like a mysterious jumble of interest rates and math wizardry.
I had pursued an education in the healthcare field and became a Podiatrist - a very unhappy one and a a financially unsuccessful one to boot!
On July 14, I was invited by some friends to attend a Dean Graziosi introductory seminar at a local hotel conference room. I was very skeptical, having heard the "Naysayer" stories about people losing their shirts trying to do the "Real Estate Thing". But after some discussion with the friends that invited me and with the presenters, I decided to give this concept a further look.
I purchased the home study course and enrolled in the 3 Day course that was coming up in 10 days in Pittsburgh.
For the next week I was fretting about my purchase - concerned that I had been duped by the program and my emotions.
I left early Friday morning and arrived at the seminar site on time - skeptic mind fully engaged. The locale was beautiful - and right across the river from the Pirates baseball stadium.
All of Dean's people were very friendly and professional. Paul was the primary presenter of the course. Man - did he talk fast! I was able to take notes but a good portion of the content was slipping by me.
That night I finally opened up the home study course materials (if I didn't open them I was sure that I could return them!) and things started to make a little more sense - but the next 2 days were still a whirlwind of information.
At the end we were invited to participate in 2 different accelerated course offerings - one was in Las Vegas, in the other a mentor would come to my area and walk me through the whole process of my first investment.
I deferred on both counts - I just felt that I do/did not have enough basic knowledge to be able to get the most benefit from the experience that I potentially could. Part of me is regretting that decision now - but the reality of my financial status was a deal breaker too.
So now I'm at home hitting the home study stuff hard. Yesterday I picked up Dean's book at B&N (along with a Kiyosaki book "The Real Book of Real Estate").
My current goal is to make a deal work that pays enough for me to enroll in either the Vegas summit or to do the Mentor program - probably the latter. I live in a small rural area, which presents some unique challenges that I would like to see an expert work with.
So in this blog I'll be posting my progress, thoughts, feelings, Red Lights, Green Lights - maybe even the outcome of a fishing trip or two!
Take Care!
