I'm trying to get a listing of REO's in a particular area, I've tried the REO network that was suggested in the book, still not successful. Any suggestions?
Most banks and mortgage companies have SOP of holding properties only a short time before they list them with a local RE agent/broker thus they are on the MLS. You can most likely get all the REO listings from your RE agent.

I see offers of REO listings in the local newspapers all the time, particularly the Sunday paper. Many real estate agencies will have something in their ads and/or listings that include a phone number you can call to get their current list of REOs.
Another thing you can do is use your phone book and call all the local real estate agencies in your area, and ask them to send you their current REO listings. If you are more comfortable with getting it by email, many of them will just email the listings to you as they become available.
I did this, and receive regular listings of REOs in my area. The only thing is that they (re agencies) are assuming you are a person who's looking for a good deal on a home, so they might start calling your house bugging you all the time, so don't provide your phone number if you think that would bother you.
