Converting Single Family Homes as Rentals.

For those of you who are converting a home into a "Mother-in-Law" apartment for rental purposes; make sure you follow the building codes in you local area. If you are doing remodeling and alterations to an existing structure you are required to have a permit to perform the work, regardless if the work is to be done by you or a licensed contractor. A permit can be obtained by contacting the local Building Department in your city or county. The number can be found in the government section of the white pages in your phone directory or by going online. A building permit is typically issued for 180 days.
