Kitchens Rehabs for 2014

Kitchens Rehabs for 2014

The kitchen is the heart of today’s home. It is where you spend time with friends and family, so you’ll want your kitchen to look its best. Kitchen upgrades topped the list of renovation projects in 2013, and the trend doesn't seem to be slowing. What are the big kitchen trends that we are seeing this year?

Neutral Colors
Just search for ‘Kitchen’ on Pinterest and you’ll be seeing scores of cabinets in white, off whites, grays and natural wood stains. They will continue lead for quite some time. Touches of black add sophistication within the whole variety of featured cabinetry and/or accessories. Counter tops tell an identical story as authentic colors and neutrals, notably warm grays, produce an understated look that allows pops of color to remain employed in the ornamental layer.

Open Shelving and Glass-front Cabinets
Kitchen cabinets used to be the place to stash dinnerware out of sight but upgrades will put kitchenware's on display in the coming year. “It is now fashionable to display almost everything in the kitchen — from dishes to pots and pans to gourmet oils and vinegar's,” Zillow Digs Board of Designers member Kerrie Kelly says. Glass-front cabinets put your best dinnerware on display. Frosted glass is a happy compromise for homeowners looking to add contemporary flair without sacrificing timeless appeal.

More Dramatic Fixtures
Fixtures and accessories that are slightly larger or boldly colored than you would expect for the space, can create a great sense of depth perception. They are especially effective in creating drama in a room with a typical low ceiling.

Accessories-Kitchen Playful Back-splash
From being merely functional and serviceable in the past, the back-splashes of today have become a defining element in the overall design of a kitchen. The three most popular styles? (a) Minimalist: Subway style tiles are very trendy and offer a subtle design accent. (b) Shimmer: A bit of shimmer will work for a muted kitchen palette or even a bright, bold one. Use a combination of glass and metal tiles to provide a modern, clean look. (3) Industrial-Chic: Create this style with stainless steel brushed metal tiles. These tiles work best for very busy kitchens and look extra-attractive with a darker, more dramatic palette.

Modern Country
This is perhaps my favorite kitchen design trend of the moment. In fact, most of the images used for this blog post will fall under this category. I love the country style kitchens with farmhouse sinks, modern finishes and gourmet appliances. I have been seeing them all over Orange County and for good reasons: They are timeless, classic, user-friendly, open and suitable for almost any interior. This style includes natural colors and materials and classical textures juxtaposed with sleek design features.

Black Counter tops
Glossy black counters are one of the hottest kitchen elements for 2014 according to Zillow’s 2014 Kitchen Report. The look of the kitchen may change as styles evolve, but the appeal of a black-and-white kitchen never dies. It’s all about high contrast in 2014.

Added Functionality
Hardware manufacturers, like Blum, are changing the way cabinet doors and drawers function. These hydraulic, easy-close doors fold up and out of the way with the touch of a button. This makes them perfect for kitchens where space is an issue, and as you know… kitchen storage is always an issue. To remedy this, manufacturers are doubling up storage in new, custom kitchens with clever multi-tiered drawers and other smart solutions.
