My aha moment!

Life brings us to moments that create an environment where decisions have to be made and follow through is a must! There are no options! Sounds dire, but truthful.

My husband and I felt we were achieving the american dream, our home is paid for, we worked for ourselves steadily putting money away for retirement. Life is Good!!

Wait, really?

The IRA statements come in, down another $2585.00 per person, when I say down another, meaning for the last few YEARS, continually moving in the wrong direction. My father becomes ill, leaving me to take over his finances and realizing he has been paying his bills by using his credit cards. (This is a man that worked 2-3 jobs until he retired, always lecturing on the importance of saving, and did, just not enough obviously).

Life good?

Absolutely! but definitely room for improvement.

Taking a very long story and condensing brings me to the why we are investing in real estate. I truly want to enjoy being old, doing things with my children and grandchildren.(The grandchildren are more fun but I'll keep the kids too.)

We joined PMI, met Gerald Martin and his group of colleagues, went to the Boots On The Ground three day training and worked with Jeff Jensen and Charlie Fuller. Learned so much that weekend, had a blast doing it too. Thank you Jeff and Charlie! Jeff really emphasized joining an REI Club, so we did.

Went to our first REI meeting last night. The speakers were three local investors, the first uses the buy and hold strategy and owns 57 properties, the second is a lease option investor with a minimum of 40 properties at any one time, and lastly, the third is a bird dog that owns his own construction company. All three of these individuals are highly successful and were kind enough to share some of their very valuable secrets. The third investor seemed to break all the traditional rules and was making deals happen. He bird dogs in "war zones" but only considers properties on well maintained blocks next to either a Magnet School or a Catholic School.

Since joining PMI we have been putting in approximately 4 offers a week, our strategy is to buy and hold, we know the rule, 1 in 25 and that does seem to be true. To date, no accepted offers, but who knows what tomorrow will bring. I'm excited every day and look forward to the challenge of making more offers.

Happy investing,
Paula
