In another post I read that it was illegal in the state of Ct. for investors or realtors to pay a 'finders fee'. Is this the same as an assigning a contract fee? I would greatly appreciate any input on this!
Sincerely,
Kenny W. DeStefano

I know this is an old post but it is a very important topic.
this is something that we here all of the time. and it really depends on who you hear it from. the absolute truth is that Realtors cannot pay any fee to anyone. However two people that have entered into a legal binding contract that states that one party is to receive payment for a service that was preformed, is not illegal. It doesn't matter where you are located if both parties agree on it, it is fine.

Hi Kenny,
ewolff is correct I am a Realtor and yes we can not pay anyone a referral fee. However it does not stop 2 individuals from entering into an agreement. I live in Massachusetts and have been down to connecticut looking for properties for myself to invest. I usually enter into a seperate agreement with my referrals as a Real Estate Investor. Good Luck!
Thank you,
Maria
