Skylights?

Skylights?

Skylights are not one of my favorite things on and in a home for several reasons. If installed properly, they can be a huge asset to a home.
Heat loss around a skylight will melt snow on the roof, immediately adjacent to the skylight. This melted snow starts to rundown the roof and re-freezes. It’s easy to understand how, as this water freezes, a dam can be built up around and below the skylight. This can cause water to back up through the roof shingles and leak into the home.
Always pay close attention to skylights in a property you are buying and make sure you are giving them a good going over.

Happy Rehabbing!!

Coach C,

Another excellent point that is right on. My favorite saying is I never met a skylight that did not leak. It is usually if it will leak, it is when will it start leaking! Great tips to look for especially in those cold snowy climates. Keep those great tidbit tips coming our way! Believe and Achieve! Smiling - Joe
