Ok so I finished readind Dean's new book, joined the Academy, and now I need to come up with a business name. First, I want to say that my wife decided to join this real estate dream. Our focus today was to come up with a business name.
We started out by researching the different levels of businesses and chose "General Partnership". We are both very new to starting out a business so I hope we picked out the right "business type". I know if our business takes off fast then we might consider being a "LLC" company.
Now we need to come up with a business name so we can order some cards. I wanted to get your different ideas on what the name should look like. I mean should I end my business name with "Investors", "properties", etc.
Any helpful ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Martin

First I want to welcome you to the board. I know you will find many hours of reading enjoyment and make several investment friends on the board.
I think a name play off of your name would be catchy. Like your ID...

You may want to see what names are available for your business type. If you decide to make it into an LLC you might as well do it now and wrap up the business name now. It might not be available.

Love your name, very cute. I came up with the name for my company rather easily as it starts with my last name. What I would like to say is to keep your company name private until you have all of your media and advertising forms locked in. Reserve your email address, website domain, fictitious name, etc NOW and keep that info private until all of those outlets are secured to you. In regards to how it should end, it will come to you. Actually write down all of your ideas, shuffle them around like scrabble pieces and DEFINATELY think outside the box. Afterall, you don't want to be like everyone else.
Welcome......I look forward to having a martini on your private island getaway one day!
Hi All,
Can someone help me answer this question please? I have several homes that I have found but the comps. on all of them for the last 6 months are all the same type of homes which is they all need major repairs. How can I figure out what the ARV is on them without comps that are really what the home would sell for if it was "move in ready"? Does this make sense?
Thanks
Niki
Thank you for you informative response, it was very helpful. I would like to ask how you reserve your info, do you mean on "godaddy.com", or one of those sites? Sorry if I sound clueless, but I never thought about starting my own business before.

I'd pick a name that identifies you and your business intent. I did Mxxxxx Development Enterprises LLC so I can focus on all aspects of real estate - residential and commercial.
I would look at an LLC right upfront. In general an LLC can protect and separate your personal property from your business interests. You can also decide which method of taxation is most beneficial to you under the LLC.
Good luck
There is SO much info. on the "net" re: business structures/entities, which would be of great help to you and your spouse. I personally researched for days/weeks until I found the info. I needed to answer ALL of my questions.
As stated above, I, too, decided on an LLC because of the "protective" factors, separating my personal assets from my business assets. There is SO much info., which discusses "how to choose a business name", just type these words into google and see what info comes up!!!
With regards to reserving your domain name, you might want to check with your Secretary of State website, Federal Trade Names & Patents sites, to determine if your name has ALREADY been chosen. After you find out your name is still available, then I would reserve the name with a domain/hosting website.
I don't know if I am allowed to give you any names of web sites, so if you want more help in how to get your biz organized just PM or email me: reiproperty4u@**** .... Shalom!
I never realized there was so much work to do and this is just figuring out business type/ name. I am starting to think that I am not as smart as you guys just because I didn't know much about business. I am starting to think if my hard work and drive may not be enough to succeed in real estate. Don't mean to sound down just how I feel. I just got me a new PC this weekend so my studying has been on hold while playing with my new toy. I even find these things to be complicated but I guess alot of people do ..lol
Thanks guys !

I'm glad you asked this question, b/c I'm dealing with the same issues this week. Nothing is popping out at me yet. I want it to flow easy when I say the name of my business and have it look good on a Bus. card as well....
How far are you in the courses? I'm hoping it will all just fall together soon.

I just watched the orientation this weekend and when it was over it said to come up with a business name and cards. That caught by surprise because I would have thought that would've been asked towards the end. I am having more of a difficult time understanding the different levels of business then picking out a name. Maybe I havent done enough online research on it but my wife is going to work on that since she is more educated then myself. I already hit a roadblock and it has little to do with real estate ..lol I wish Dean talked more about this in his book.

Don't mean to sound "tough" but U are making this process more complicated than what it really is.... Just brainstorm some names, which fit your personality type, social circle, culture, race and/or affiliations... U know why because unless U believe in what U are selling (i.e., services, products, personality, etc) NO ONE ELSE WILL BELIEVE U!!!!
So, stop sweating the "small" stuff and decide on a name/logo, which is actually much easier than U realize!!! It's about where U are in your MOMENT (life)... It doesn't matter what WE believe or think, it must be about your own "conviction" or "experience." U have a name already birthed inside of U, just let it come out and with the name comes the "logo/design" and with the logo comes the "web site" design.... It's really that EASY!! Well, this is my nickel's worth of advice!!!
The hard part its not the name itself but the type of company/ownership I want to use is . See I never , EVER thought of starting my own business before until I saw Dean on TV and makes you believe anyone can do it. I just got done reading a great post on "LLC" and this is what I posted there. If you were a young married couple who is new to business, real estate, and wants to start of with "assignment" deals , what would be the business type? "LLC", "General Partnership",etc, WHAT? I should have a better idea tomorrow when we do more research but if you or anyone can make it easier ..well that would sweet .
THANKS!
