Real Estate the right thing for me? I'm only 21!

Real Estate the right thing for me? I'm only 21!

Hello! This is my first post here on the Dean Graziosi site. My question is... is real estate right for me? I saw the infomercial late last night, and I thought I'd do a bit of research before buying the book.

Let me give some background information. I just finished my junior year at Penn State University, majoring in Finance. Unable to get an internship for the summer because of the economy (I was thinking of following the traditional path of school, internship or co-op,job), I am currently unemployed this summer. Many doubts clog my mind about what I'll be doing after I finish my Finance degree next year, as the economy might still be down and I may very well still be unemployed. I don't know yet what I want to do in life. I am looking for a career.

The idea of real estate appeals to me. I like the idea of capitalizing on this downturn in the economy and possibly become a millionaire before I leave my 20's, just like Dean Graziosi himself. I learn things quickly, but I'm afraid my age and lack of life experience might hold me back. For example, I've never bought a car without help from my parents, don't know much about real estate terms or how it generally works, etc. But I'd be eager to learn!

A second question popped into my head too. What good is a Finance degree a year from now, if the economy is still bad? I learned of the Matt Larson story who worked without a college degree before getting into real estate. And many deals could be missed out in the next year!! I feel that this decision, although important and should be well thought-out, is very time-sensitive. Would it be worth it to postpone finishing my degree and getting into real estate now?

Thanks! Any advice/opinions are appreciated.

PA-Greg,

Congratulations on joining the DG website. It is packed with information and I am sure you will be inspired and learn a wealth of information here. I would like to address a few of your questions. I am a Real Estate Investor and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). I took the college road and spent a lot of money even in graduate school, but I have to admit, the best investment you can make is in your education (quoting Benjamin Franklin).

The formal college education will give you options for the rest of your life. Now with that being said, an education can also include an education in real estate by Dean Graziosi. I believe Dean's books provides the real world, hands on real estate knowledge that is a formula for success. You are in a unique situation and I would encourage you to spend the summer being a real estate investor and have a duel career for a few years. The income will help you get conventional loans and the college education will give you options. You are in your junior year of school, so why not finish what you started? You can do both! Believe it or not I have so many things going but you make time for what you want to make time for. I want to be financially free and be a 100% full time real estate investor and I know that Dean has given us the information to get there!

Also, all those business courses, finance classes, financial modeling etc will enable you to work the numbers even quicker when assessing potential real estate deals! The bottom line is you have to do what you want, not anyone else. You will probably be able to still retire by 30! Smiling Good luck on your real estate investing. Believe and Achieve! Smiling - Joe
