Everyone Please VOTE to DEMAND the Profile info to be filled out BEFORE allowing a DG membership.
Time after time WE ask new members, even some that have been here a while, to fill out their profile info and they don't, BUT, they continue to ask questions and want us to HELP them and answer.
We all want to help each other here.
If we can't convince the DG ADMIN to require a profile info filled out before allowing membership, or members refuse to fill out their profile info, then maybe we should just NOT help by answering their questions and let them search the ENTIRE DG site and try to find the answers on their own.

Hello folks, I just want to cast my vote for the filling out of profiles AND invite you to visit mine anytime.
Well I'll say this, when I first joined, I had to be reminded (or told) to fill mine out too... I didn't know that it was even important to do. Some boards I've been members of, people don't really update theirs... just the way it is usually.
Although, I do want to say, before people go out there and decide to NOT help those who ask questions from those who are new and don't have a bio, all it usually takes is a "Hey we're big on community here and we use our Bios/profiles, if you don't mind please take this time to update yours now, and this is how you do it.
I found on this site it wasn't the easiest thing to do... so many links it's hard to find the "my account" link especially when you're looking everywhere else looking for so much REI information. I was looking all over the top part of the page where 99% of other message boards provide links to "my account" It's in a odd location on this site.
Also, this is my own opinion on this but I don't think people should be talking about taking a vote on something that might not be possible tech wise. (I've dealt with and managed message boards before) Your sometimes limited by the tech you are using.
I think a better approach might be to contact the admin and talk about possible solutions... they have always been great about addressing needs of the community. I really think they will listen and if they see the issue needs to be addressed. I'm sure they'll try to find a suitable solution for all... both new members and seasoned members.
I just had to write when I saw this post. The one thing I remember was it not being user friendly in how to update bio... or like I said, that it was something people where really looking at etc.
It's funny... thinking back I distinctly remember feeling a bit like... "ummm okay sorry, i didn't know it was important but I'll be happy to update mine soon..." then I was thinking "Hey how DO I update my bio?" After you're on the site for a while, you quickly understand how this is of value.

I too filled out the wrong thing and kept wondering why my bio didn't show up. When someone asked me to fill it out, I went and kept looking and playing around until it showed up, I had put it in the wrong place. I still do not know what I had filled out as it is still in lala land somewhere. Still I think everyone can take the time to learn and fill out their bio. I too, like to know who I am talking to.
