Ok I have decided it's worth it to go throug the court listings one at a time. kinda relaxing. one thing is driving me bonkers. what on earth are lot numbers? and where do I find a map for them? lot 1, block 1, new city block 123456 for example.
any assistance would be great. thanks.

I believe it is the description of the property in the plat book, microfish (spelled right?) or on their computer depending on how the courthouse has this recorded. You can see a street map with all the properties & lot #'s on both sides of the street. Well at least that's what we can see here.

Each county has the land within that county divided up into sections. It is the way they keep track of property owners, tax records, etc. It is more reliable then a street address from the counties perspective. Infact, they will usually use another property identifier called a legal description. In most cases, they will keep all recording information together for parcels in a given area, so you will see a book and page where these properties are located too. Most land records offices have a plot map or parcel map that you can use to identify these parcels based on where they are located in a section of the county and then the specific place within that section. Some counties actually have this information available online for you to do research too.
