When I started at the DG site, I had these questions and then got my answers by "learning by web navigation" and I thought I would share these quick tips.
To Start a Blog:
1) Log In
2) On the Left Menu, under "Main Sections", click "My blog".
3) Click "Post New Blog Entry"
4) What you post here gets posted in your own blog. (viewable by others if they click your profile)
To Start a Journal (or start a Forum Entry):
1) Log-In
2) On the Left Menu, under "Main Sections", click "Member Journals".
3) Click "Post New Forum Topic"
4) Start Writing Your Journal. Submit Forum Topic
5) As you submit this, it will be shown on the right side of the screen, under "Active Forum Topics", click the "more" link (under the 5 most "active forum topics" - it will go the the same "Forum" area)
Personally, I prefer the "Journal Entry" (which is actually categorized as a Forum Topic) because it allows other DG Members to see it, comment on it. and be part of the forum. In comparison, the Blog Entry, one has to drill down and click your name, see your bio (User Account), go to the "Track Tab", and look under "Type" whether or not you have actually started a blog. If your blog has something extremely good and is worth sharing, it might get chosen to be posted on the Front Page of the site (DG family or DGadmin, correct me if I'm wrong here ).
The forum is a great resource to get quick answers to quick questions. OR just type your query into the "Search Box" (it is located at the upper left hand side of your screen, under Dean's picture) - usually whatever question you will ask has already been answered in the forums! (Ofcourse we all also have to follow the guidelines and abide by the DG website rules below)

I hope this helps!

Cris,
Thanks for the advice on this. It makes it nice for us rookies to have a quick understanding of where to go for assistance.
Thanks again,
Gary
“Starting to plan for myself, which will let my successes stand above the negativity”
You're welcome Gary, and welcome to DG . com! I think this is one of the first few Forum posts I started, I figured it might help someone someday. I am also just starting out here (in January sometime, when I began my Journal!). I keep the links in my Journal to keep it handy for me and for sharing the links with others as well, feel free to re-use!
So far I have part 7. I am adding one link here to my Journal and then just scroll down for the next ones, all of these links are on DG . com, written by DGers, I found them very helpful for me, as a newbie:

Of course, never mind the other ramblings in the Journal..
Happy Investing!
