Spam Advertisements

Spam Advertisements

Hello,

I just wanted to note the increasing amount of spam advertisement forum postings that are occurring on this site. Every time I come here, I see at least one or two, sometimes three, spam advertisements in the "Active forum topics" section of the top-right side of the page. I click on each one and flag as offensive, with the category as other and the message body describing it as a spam advertisement having nothing to do with real estate...just to get them removed fairly quickly.

Is there anything that can be done about this spam, without causing problems for the people who are really here posting about real estate? I already see a gentleman in this forum category (Website Help and Feedback ONLY), who was getting blocked from either posting or PM'ing, and posted here over two weeks ago with his issue and was never replied to. Don't know if the issue was resolved, but I'd say his issue runs in line with the same system issues that govern spam like what I'm talking about.

There has to be a better way to block the true spammers. If they are not using an automated system (normally blocked by captcha) and inputting the messages manually, then they will get past captcha every time. For those who don't know, captcha is that box of letters/numbers you have to enter what you see to send a message. The characters are all one graphic picture, and automated programs only read true text...usually not a disfigured graphic representation of the same thing. In general, it works unless it is a human doing the entering.

Anyhow, thank you for listening. It is a real concern. When most of us get on this site, the first thing we look at is the "Active forum topics" section to see who's doing what now. When we see spam, I'm sure we all have our different thoughts about it. I am personally frustrated because I'd rather see relevant training content or people posting how they've gone to the next level or did their 1st deal. Can we do something about this spam problem?

Thanks,

Jason

Hey Jason

I haven't seen you in quite a while! There has been a lot of talk and work to try and remove spam. It was even hard for us regulars to get on at one point, so now they don't do the capthas' as much, and there is more spam. Hopefully they still plan on a new website. Don't know what is happening with that. Just flag the spam or ignore it. You mean you don't want some ugg boots right about now in this 107 weather? Hmmmmm

Flag Spam Advertisements As Offensive!!! Remove Them.

Hey Everyone,

I'm not on here all the time, but when I am the first thing I look at is the "Active forum topics" section at the top-right of the main page. If you see something that clearly looks like it is spam, and click on it to see what it is and definitely IS spam, please do the following.

At the bottom of every posting is options to do something. Click "Flag as offensive", click the down arrow for the "Reason" box and select "Other", and then in the message just say "Spam" and click the "Send" box. This will remove the posting so it isn't accessible, which you will see when you go to the main page and try clicking that same link. That link will disappear within a few minutes as well. I'm finding that as I'm removing some, more appear. The more of us doing this, the less of it will remain on the site.

Hopefully the DG website administrators are working on a better method that doesn't block us from posting, but prevents spammers from spamming. Not sure how this will be accomplished, but I'm sure they'll figure it out. It was good when we never saw anything up there but legitimate postings of our making. Let's hope we get there again soon.

Does Flagging them work?

Jason, I agree with you and something needs to be done. It's beyond frustrating!!

Yes Jason

That is how I do them too. Tammy
