Hi. I also live in northern California.
I consider myself relatively new too (to real estate), but you never stop learning. Even Dean is STILL learning!!

One thing I might suggest to start is this, if you haven't heard the June 18, 2009 conference call with Dean & Jeff Jenson - listen to that if you can find it. If you can't find it I might have a copy of it on cd lying around here somewhere. I could make you a copy.
Also I would suggest DOING all the action steps in Dean's PROFIT FROM REAL ESTATE RIGHT NOW book.
These are two great ways to get started.
