Business Question

Business Question

I have Dean's book Profit From Real Estate Right Now! I am so excited! I have been in Banking/Finance and Real Estate Investments for a long time...this puts the pieces together. I have a question. I have a business name that has my last name in it. In setting up a business or a trust, should I not use my last name in the business name or trust name? I'm sure this is covered in one of his books or on this site. I have not found it yet. If anyone could direct me there, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Terri!

Welcome to the family. It is really a great place to learn a lot.

In regard to your question, I have seen that come up here before and there are always conflicting opinions. Some say "No" but many of us, including me, do use our names.

Karen

Terri Your parents gave you

Terri
Your parents gave you that name use it. Be proud of your name and try to never shame it. If you are honest, and stand behind what say and do,and compassionate to others there is no reason not to use your name.

The ones that find ways to hide their identity with secrecy usually have a reason to do so. If you are providing a service you should want people to know who they are dealing with. Your self respect and your name are the only things that nobody can take from you. Only you can change your name or loose your self respect.

When you make it big don't you want people to know that you did it.
Look at DEAN GRAZIOSI.

My perspective

Using your own name in your company name is fine for a certain period of time. But if you grow to a point where you are doing a lot of transactions, it becomes easier to have a name that does not shine on just one individual. Originally, I used my name; but about a couple years in I changed it to TrustPoint Financial Corp. to better reflect our activites but also to be an all inclusive name with the other principals in our businesses. If I had to do it over, I would have started with the ficticious name as the changeover cost a lot in identity dilution. I still have my personally named company but it is not in use. Hope this helps.

PS - Don't use YOUR name in a trust...it is always better if the trust's name has the address in it, such as: The 1234 Maple Avenue Trust.

Bill I agree if you are

Bill

I agree if you are doing a Trust or LLC on a property not to put your name on it. Or if you want to have a name that reflects the type of service or product you are selling, but you still put your name as the operator or owner. Just like Trust Point your face is wright there and if we click on it so is your name.We know who you are and that we can trust you. In your case you have other principles involved.A lot of people have sub- businesses under their own name.

Business Question

Thank you all so much for your replies. It makes me feel like I am really a part of something really great! It seems that a lot of people of integrity are involved with Dean's programs.
The reason I asked the question was because I already own several investment properties and have sold a few. But if you begin to get a lot in your name all as personal properties, I think it is getting more complicated. But I do like my name and don't mind using it, just trying to open doors with financing that might be more attractive down the road. It's a lot to figure out. But I'm on the right track now, just being a part of a group of like minded individuals.
Thanks for the info.

Terri

Terri You should check

You should check things out with a lawyer, an accountant to see which way you should set things for your best interest.
