Time Management-A GREAT site that will monitor everything you do and your productivity!

3 posts by me in the last 24 hours! WOW! Well, when I find something I want to share it, and I've found this AWESOME site that tracks everything you do online, AND also allows you to track what you did while you were away from the computer. It will really open your eyes as to how long you are spending on some sites and help improve your productivity and cut down on activities that aren't productive.

After you do this for awhile, you can update the sites and activities with their productivity to you, IE this site is automatically counted as 'very unproductive', but you can change it to neutral, or if you use this site for researching, productive, or very productive. It is very easy to use and may reveal time wasters to improve your productive.

Here's the magic website, its helped me tremendously!

OH YAY

Tammy this is great thank you just what I was looking for.

Do you have anything else on time management? I wonder will it still work if you leave things open? I am famous for leaving tabs open so I can quickly go back to them.

It does work when things are left open. It monitors your active screen, and you can also set it up for when you are inactive, you will have to type what you will doing when you come back to the computer. Its been SO great at improving my productivity! I absolutely love it!

hmmm

you know I downloaded it but its not doing anything LOL i even got an email that its not working I will have to figure out how to get it to work LOL.

Just a thought...if the

Just a thought...if the program monitors activity whether active or inactive, it would have to have an open portal (remote accessibility or a key logger type of approach) has there been any concern for sensitive information? ex: Access to your hard drive or if you do online banking, etc. that could open up negative exposure?

Just was thinking it may be a valid concern. Smiling

God Bless,
Jen

This is how it works

Jen,
VEry valid points. I've sent a message to them to find out how safe it is. I'm waiting for a reply. This is what the site tells how it works. I've used it for weeks now, but I do have a scrambler on my computer that I get with my credit monitoring service, so I don't worry about that. I don't believe it works off of a keylogger, but cookies and I'm not sure how it knows when I'm working on Office or Outlook.

The RescueTime Data Collector is a small installable application on your PC or Mac, which pays attention to which application or web site you are currently focusing on (in other words, which is in focus or "on top"). RescueTime only pays attention to active time, so if you get up and leave your computer, it will stop measuring time within about 2 minutes. The Data Collector "scans" your computer every few seconds to see which window is currently "on top". When it detects a window, it writes a record to a data file on your hard drive, recording application name, site URL (if the app is a browser), window title, and start time. In subsequent scans, if the in-focus window changes, RescueTime will add an end time to that record and create a new record for the new window. RescueTime also measure activity (based on keyboard and mouse movement). When RescueTime detects that your computer is idle (no keyboard or mouse activity), it begins a 2 minute time. At the end of two full minutes of inactivity, RescueTime will close the most recent record and subtract 2 minutes of time from that record.

Safe to use

Here are the comments addressing these concerns:

Hello,

Thanks for your concern. RescueTime is quite safe to use. In fact, we have no need for key logging and do not in any way intercept your system input or redirect it. We simply check for active or idle status, then get the current application name, its window title, and for web browsers, the location of the web site. This data is sent via SSL (https) to our site, where it is used to produce the reports you see. Only you have access to these reports.

Some applications can put sensitive information in the window title. If you feel this is the case, and our uncomfortable with it being saved anywhere (even under HTTPS and password protection), special rules can be put in place to prevent details for those apps for you. Alternatively, you have the "whitelist" tool, and the "circuit breaker" type switch that turns off all details, in your "Monitoring" settings page (on the website).

Hope that helps,

Thanks Tammy

Thanks Tammy
