Property tax

Property tax

Does anyone know how you keep your real estate taxes from going up. When we bought our house in Arkansas, after about a year our taxes went up, but we didn't know this. We were told that our rates wouldn't go up unless it was due to insurance or taxes. OUr mortgage was based on the assessed value that the previous oweners had, but then it went up. Now we want to also go to the property tax office??? to make sure that we lock it in place as our predecesors did, so that we won't pay more. We don't know where to go or what it is called to do this however. Anyone know? Again we are in Arkansas. Hope this post made sense. Thanks. Tammy

property tax

Property tax in the United States
In the United States, property tax on real estate is usually levied by local government, at the municipal or county level. Rates vary across the states, between about 0.2% and 4% of the home value.[7] The assessment is made up of two components—the improvement or building value, and the land or site value. In some states, personal property is also taxed. The property tax is the main tax supporting local education, police/fire protection, local governments, some free medical services, and most of other local infrastructure. Also, many U.S. state and local jurisdictions impose personal property taxes.

Tax Assessor for Arkansas

Taxes for your property are levied by local government, namely your county assessor. hey will assess your property based on the tables. But actually they should have went down because of the decline in property values.

So here's how they do it. Property tax revenue has long been an important source of revenue for state and local governments. In Arkansas the property tax generates revenue for school districts, county and city governments, community colleges and special districts.

They compare the property tax base and rates among counties and over time, which provides information on the property tax capacity and effort of local governments. They show the distribution of the property tax revenue among local governmental units and then compare the importance of the property tax revenue for Arkansas, school districts and county governments.

They also represent how it changes over time and a comparison among counties. Third, property tax rates are presented and compared among counties. Finally, the property tax burden is compared among counties and states.

Anyone can protest their property taxes...

Anyone can protest their property taxes. You contact the assessors office and make an appointment. PM me if you want a step by step procedure. I know of a lot of rehab investors protesting their taxes. They've gotten retroactive rebates from the city, as well as, the school districts.
