Need help with CALIFORNIA Property Search

Hi all, are there any California investors out there that could help a newbie with property info search? I'm looking at the courthouse records, and keep getting the message that the info is "Protected per CA. Govt. Code Sect. 6254.21", no matter how I try the search. How can I start finding out property owners and their addresses in California?

California!

The things I do is search on Zillow, Trulia, and craigslist. Though what in particular are you looking for? County records seems to work, I need to do the same myself. I'm in California too.

"Protected per CA. Govt. Code Sect. 6254.21"

Refers to an elected or appointed govt official who has requested that his information be kept private.

TRSD

Thanks for that valuable information. Hmm... wonder who it could be!!!! Sticking out tongue Maybe its in proptrend! Smiling

California Property search: OOPS I misstated my question!

What I really need is how do I find addresses of owners of properties I find? I have an address, and when I search County Courthouse website for that address, it gives me the owner's name, but tells me that his mailing address is Protected per CA Govt Code Sect 6254.21... to be honest with you, I am trying to locate info on a property I am familiar with, and know the owner's name (he just bought the property from me, LOL) because I have been unsuccessful in finding owner info/ and addresses of properties I'm interested in... so I thought if I tried a search where I already KNOW all the info, I might be able to figure it out. But no, I'm still hitting a brick wall. So to be clear: I find a property, get the address... now I'm trying to find out where the owner lives. OR ALSO I have a cash buyer's name (from Set For Life software) and am trying to find the cash buyer's address... in both cases, I am unable to locate info due to "protected" status. I assume Calif just has super strict privacy laws?? But how do I do this? Could use advice from someone in California who is already successful in locating owner name/ address info...

Added info on Calif Property Search question/ netronline.com

Just discovered a post re: http://www.netronline.com/. When requesting "Property Detail Report", I get a messg :info available for professional users only, for $3.50. When doing search for "Ownership and Encumbrances", they want $60. I must be doing something wrong, I can't believe everyone is paying for their property searches?

I figured it out!

I was coming across the same code. SO, when I did it for my own property, and it said the same thing, I knew it wasn't a politician's protected address! Here's how to find it.

Go to the county's assessor office that the property is in.
Find the owner's names.
Goto Blockshopper.com
Type in the person's name. If there are 2 names, try each one separately
I found the mailing address for a property I couldn't find on proptrend this way -- for free!

Try it out!

What county we're looking in...

San Bernardino

I figured it out

Thanks, Tammy! I'm off to try it right now... crossing my fingers....

Did it work

Im having the same problem
Lookin In San bernardino county

This won't help you much

This won't help you much because I live in LA and have been using the tax assesors page to find property owners:

http://maps.assessor.lacounty.gov/mapping/viewer.asp

I played around with the san bernardino site a little bit and couldn't turn up a similar link so I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful but hopefully the link will be be useful to someone else who finds your post. I wish they were all standarized.

San Bernardino County websites are

http://nppublic.co.san-bernardino.ca.us/newpims/%28S%28tet33wqek2ea4l55j...

That site allows you to search by name or parcel #. To get the parcel # for the address, you need to put the address in http://www.mytaxcollector.com/trSearch.aspx

Also a free site

This site is also good for 5 searches a day with a free acount:

http://www.propertyshark.com/mason/text/infopages/Property-Owners.html

I haven't used it for much else but it has definitely turned up a few absentee owner adresses.

Finding Property Owners

Counties vary greatly. In many counties, you can't search who owns the property by property address at the county recorder's site. Need parcel number or owners name. Therefore, try going to the county assessor's office site (or tax collector) and running by address that way. Then after you get the owner's name, you go back to the recorder's site, populate the info and then you can see if there are liens and backtaxes. If the assessor's site gives you the same problem, call them, because so many will talk to you on the phone and help you! (I know, surprising!)

I've seen people say that once a house goes all through foreclosure, any liens expire. So not true! The city can assess liens for not cutting grass, etc.

Home Owner Search

I was able to locate a Los Angeles property owner with only an address, very easily with the following sites

LA County Tax acessor:
http://maps.assessor.lacounty.gov/mapping/viewer.asp

Trulia.com

Blockshopper.com

411.com
