"White-boarding"

In Dean's book Totally Fulfilled, Dean talks about have vision and setting goals. In fact Dean talks about those things almost weekly in his Weekly Wisdom's! Dean is really great about motivating and helping us keep our head in the game and stay focused on why were here on his website! We all want a little more and we all want real estate to be the path to help us get to the next level.

My 22 yr old son (in college) moved back home for the summer. We've had many discussions about life and what he wants to do with his and his future. We've had talks about the direction that I'm going and what I'm trying to accomplish and would like to accomplish. As his Mother, of course, I'm the one that should be teaching and guiding and giving him direction. However, my son has taught me a lot since he's been home.

He moved into the basement of my house. It's become his "domain". I went downstairs last week to talk to him and was surprised when I saw the family room wall covered with what looked like a gigantic white board! - 16 feet wide x 4 feet high - I was ready to kill him! Then I realized something..... It was covered with writing. Not just doodling and happy faces like my daughters do on my other white board. It was covered...the entire board was covered with organized notes listing goals, resources, wants, needs etc.

I asked him what that was all about. He said it was one of his whiteboards. ONE of his whiteboards?!! Excuse me? are you kidding me? This sucker was huge! and there are some serious holes in my walls now! ha (that's a whole separate post! ) Being curious, I asked him about it. He showed me that he calls it "White-boarding". He lists his goals, thoughts, ideas, "To-dos", game-plans to execute, different projects or events on the whiteboard and then takes a picture of it. He likes to "write it out" and get a visual during the thought process - it works for him.

He then takes a picture of the white-board with his iPhone and saves it in a "folder" (on his iPhone) and calls it "White-boarding". His iPhone connects to his computer and his iPad where he always has access to his "white-boards". For him this works! I loved it! I thought this is a very creative idea and creative way for him to organize his goals, thoughts, ideas and plans.

He said - "Mom, I need to write things out and I need that visual. This has been a way for me to do that and keep them with me." I loved it so much that I bought a board for me and have started one for myself.

Now I have a place that is more "visible" to me to jot down thoughts, ideas and be able to take a picture of it so that I have it with me (on my phone, iPad or laptop) and then erase and open it up for more!

It's so simple but has proven to be so effective for me that I wanted to share it with you. It doesn't really matter what you do or how you do it as long as you DO IT! Find a system to help you with your goals, ideas, thoughts and vision! To help you keep your head in the game and focused!

btw - the huge "whiteboard", is not technically a white-board. It is a sheet of "White Panel Board" and is found close to the "lumber" section of Home Depot. It is a sheet that is 8' x 4' for $13.65. It is the same surface as most white boards. I had the guy at Home Depot cut it into two pieces for me to fit in my office.
