I bought DG's book via internet on the last week of July. I actually came across DG's name in one of the success audio's that I bought from Kevin Trudeau. He suggested that one way to increase income is through real estate and he mentioned DG as one of the best RE gurus. So I went online and bought DG’s book!
August
I spent the whole month of August reading DG’s book. I learned a lot and my traditional thinking about real estate have shifted to a totally different view. I was also moved by Dean’s experience, motivation and encouragement! I appreciated that he first spent teaching and establishing core beliefs and purpose in order to set a good foundation before we start REI or any other business.
September
This is my decision, goal setting and organization month. I have set-up my home office, and working on setting up the business. I finally enrolled in the coaching program this week! It was an exciting and nervous feeling. Communicating and negotiating (which is one of the key ingredients) is not my cup of tea but I’m taking a leap of faith to learn and do it!
I did not have a second thought of investing to the coaching program because I’m actually planning to enroll to an IT course in which the price and the amount of time to accomplish the course is almost the same as the coaching program. So I thought, this is cool – I will learn and potentially earn at this time!
I’m looking forward on how REI will change my life!!!

Aileen, I like your September activities.... Goals are an important step in acheiving anything meaningful. But why do so many people fall short?
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Fear defeats more people than any other one thing in the world."
I have found that fear doesn’t always mean shocking awful grotesque fear. Basically, If you rid yourself of your fears, (fear of looking foolish, fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of ), success and abundance are sure to be your destiny.
I will stop preaching and start offering assistance!

Congratulations on starting your REI path! That's so cool how you came across Dean's program. I'd say it was "meant to be". 
It's true what Rohn said about fear. What an annoying little thing it is, but sometimes has so much power over a person. It's nice that it is something that is competely "overcomeable".
Well, you're right about REI changing your life. (It did mine.)

This is exactly what I feel when I was reading Dean's book. So overwhelming.. but whenever I go to this site and see all of your experiences, accomplishments and especially the support you are giving (amazing!), it inspire me to go for it and take action!

1st week
I set-up my business, ordered business card, searched properties through ziprealtycom and realtor.com, and start contacting
realtors.
I was hit by the biggest obstacles of my REI journey - that is dealing with people and talking to strangers especially when I do not know about real estate. Instead of me "selling" my plan, one of the realtors that I talked to even cautioned me about believing about the "no money down". I got stuck when they asked about my resources (I guess for down payment). I will still not give up and will pursue this journey...
- Any advise from this site's guru will be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi Aileen, and welcome to the DG family! I am no site guru, haha, but am so excited reading your journal because my start in real estate is still fresh and new for me to and I know how you feel! The subject phrase I used I read somewhere on this site, and it kind of became my inner mantra. I would add that while faking my confidence level, I was still never afraid to admit I was new and to ask questions. I was astounded at how nice almost all the people were to answer them and teach me! I believe that when they feel your determination to become successful, along with having good intent in your actions, its infectious and they want to work with you! As far as the resource question, I would advise contacting and adding a mortgage rep to your team. Tell them what you plan to do. They can help you figure out your finanical situation as to what type of loans you would qualify for, down payment amounts, etc. Right now you are taking consistent steps, setting goals and putting your self out there, and thats what it takes! ACTION! You will posting your first deal before you know it!

Thank you for the advice. I will take that with me and will put into action this week. I will try any tested technique that I can learn from people who has been there and has done it.
I got a call yesterday afternoon from one of the realtors (I sensed that he will be willing to work with me). Today, I got a call from one of the banks that he recommended. I have one more prospect to try this week. I have also found some properties that hopefully I can view by next week.
This is becoming so real... exciting but I feel more nervous.

Week 2
Started building my "Power Team". I have contacted a realtor and also recommended to a bank and we got pre-approved! Not a huge amount but at least that started to build my confidence. I also browse through the craigslists and called a couple of hard money lenders. I took Laura's advice "fake it (my confidence) until I make it!" This is my greatest obstacles-networking!
We have scheduled to view properties this weekend! We will start to target our area first - West Sacramento. What is interesting is that the 2 new properties that my realtor provided were already gone!

I have not updated my journal in a while...

Week 2-4
It was just 3 weeks ago that my fear of contacting realtors and lender (without knowing what exactly what I'm doing) almost keep me from moving forward. As I progress with my mentoring program, it gradually build my confidence and I'm starting to feel the REI "world". Taking notes of my plans and accomplishments help a lot.
During the past 3 weeks, I have been busy looking for target areas, browsing the internet and walking through properties. I have also established a working relationship with my realtor and loan consultant from a bank.
I have browsed through 25 prospect properties in the internet, walk through 10 properties and made 6 offers. I have learned a lot when I started going out to the area and making offers. There are a lot of foreclosed properties and of the 6 that I have made offers, 3-already accepted higher offers, 1-they want me to counteroffer at a higher price, 2-I only have two left that I'm waiting for reply!
Other things that I have learned are 1. how banks incredibly lower the price, 2. good deal houses are gone just a week after they are listed 3. there are CASH offers! -- this kinda discourage and encourage me in a way. But I got enlighten with the mentor's help.
With all of the things I have discovered, I thought that I may need to come up with a strategy. Now, my next objective is to build my buyer's list and contact hard money lenders that will somehow get me more into the REI game.
A very tiring and hard work weeks but it's all worth it -- I'm starting to enjoy it!
