"Scared to Death"

I was scared to 'DEATH' when I signed for my first mortgage! All those papers, I could feel my heart pounding, even see it in my eyesight! I had NO clue what I was doing. More importantly, I knew if I never took a chance I'd regret that even more!!
It all turned out just great, but I still remember to this day how scared I was! Don't get me wrong, I would do it again and again now and I'm quite sure I will still be scared. But I won't let that stop me, it didn't then and it certainly wouldn't now. ;D

From the moment I put my offer in till the moment this past Tuesday when I closed on the sale of my first flip and walked out with check in hand, I was scared every day! I cant tell you how many sleepless nights I had running and re running my numbers and all the what-if scenarios. But mixed with all the worry, deep in my soul was the excitement and certainty that I WAS going to be successful. I had done every bit of homework and analysis Dean taught, so armed with that knowledge and all the support from this site, confidence always won out over self doubt! Now I cant wait to get my hands on my next house. I think there will always be a certain level of being scared - but thats a good thing, because it keeps you focused to get it right!

I've been scared with almost every step I've taken in REI (especially all the new experiences since starting Dean's program in April of this year).
Scared to try new strategies, scared what my husband will think/say/do, scared of looking like a fool, scared of a conference call, scared of a flip-cam, scared of what other people think, scared I'll put our money in the wrong place,(I could go on). But the reason I have pushed through is because I know I will grow with each step and can then encourage others who may be facing the same fears. I want to be a strong example to my kids, and maybe make their lives easier in the future. I want to GIVE generously to causes I believe in. And I want to have the time and the $ to spoil my grandkids when they come along! lol

Please, if fear is holding you back, do NOT let that have control of your life! You take control of IT, and you CAN overcome and succeed in anything. I can say that for sure, because I was the biggest chicken (and people pleaser) that I know. If I can do it, so can you!

I'm going to have my HUSBAND read this, he's REALLY scared! Not that I'm not but the only way to move forward is to take chances. So you flop, learn from it, right? (yeah I talk pretty big huh?)I have yet to get the "first" deal but everything you (Lena, Rina, Laura, cbr, coaches...ALL of you) say really gives me a push in the right direction and reminds me WHY I'm doing this! I applaude you!

You're honesty blows me away sister! I would NEVER have guessed that you were scared of all that. Every time we talk, you're always up, joking around and positive! That's funny, because when I was younger I was a complete scardy cat and a big people pleaser too. But after I became a mother I was FORCED to face my fears, so that my kids wouldn't see me in that light. The things you do for your children will amaze you! I've become such a strong and confident woman because of mine I can't even tell you and I'm SO grateful for it. I've taken risks and chances I NEVER would've had I not had to provide for them. So I have to agree, don't let fear paralyze you or stop you from taking that chance. So it may not be the right decision, but you WILL learn from it and move forward if you look at it as a learning process and NOT a mistake. ;D

I am in the process of my first deal, or should I say deals since they all seem to be taking place at the same time, I have gotten calls from investors and sellers this week and I have 4 deals working at one time. I have no idea what I am doing and I am also scared to death.

But I figure I will let what I have learned in Dean's book and on this site guide me and sometimes, just sometimes we have to DO IT AFRAID!

FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real.

It's a natural reaction to something we have conjured up as an outcome. ex... "I will fail", " It wont work" I will screw up" etc...It's a survival mode to protect ourselves. But is the actual fear of the outcome a reason to stop? Absolutly NOT it's a reason to keep going because you will never actually know what the outcome will be until you pursue it. Sometime you just have to do it AFRAID!

You go get everything your after even if you have to do it afraid!

I REFUSE to sit back 20 years from now weeping in my dept wishing I would have made the deals that I was to afraid to go after

To err IS human. I made mistakes left and right on my last deal, but guess what? I STILL made it work and I made $24,800!! So even if you DO make a mistake or two, or three, you can still make money in REI.

I'm grateful that we have great sites like this and to the people who spend time sharing their experience that serves as an enouragement to newbies like me.

I'm in exact situation right now and to make it worst my husband is discouraging me (which I expect from him) and always express his regret why he agreed with me pursuing the coaching program.

I did not let him know how afraid I am so I keep myself motivated. If not for this site, I'm probably still lingering and not taking action to "lessen" my fear...

In reading thru this thread, I noticed that only women are admitting their fear up to this point. I guess it's just not right for a man to show or admit fear. So it is with great hesitation that I tell you how many nights I tossed and turned over some of my investment decissions. So far I have been able to make things work out, but I must admit that, at times, it has been difficult. I know the potential is great, and I just need to keep moving forward. Dean's book, his coaches, and this websight have given me strength and confidence.

When I first came here I was discouraged too. However once I got here I realized God was here too and he met me here. If you look at the comments on the bottom of the posts you will see His presence.

You can do this!Just keep walking, don't give up and when you begin to make $, and you will, your husband will follow and support you. men need to see something concrete to accept it, they need to know it works. Prove to him this is worth the effort! Keep on pressing!

To all my family. Al is not the only male who has sleepless nights when it comes to REI. After months of spinning my wheels, I have started the process to make an offer on a FSBO. Empty, ugly, 1 family. House is below market and appears to have no mortgage on it. Owner's daughter has it for sale, mom is in nursing home. I even have 3 tenants (sp)lined up to rent the house.

So now the fun begins,release the hounds, Jan has jumped in the game.

Thanks for sharing with us. If you looked back through the months, you would find posts from all the top guys on here telling some of their deepest fears and emotions they've had to overcome, so you're not alone. I think it really connects a family to hear of the mountains others have to overcome, along with sharing and celebrating each other's successes. We can all push forward together.

Hi Everyone,

I know I haven't been on here for quite some time but I'm back.....

I had landed on a property (my first property) through the gem of a Realtor I am working with.

Even as the Realtor started giving me property leads I began thinking "oh boy, what am I doing?" but I pushed my fear aside and pushed ahead in spite of it.

I a bit "scared" since the moment I was at the property, already running the numbers and knowing I would be making an offer.

I can't tell you how many times, how many different methods I used to analyze the numbers and still came within the same offer. Just like Laura, having sleepless nights or just about no sleep at all since I couldn't pull myself away from the computer because I had to run the numbers again from a different angle just to make sure one more time which by the way never seemed like enough.

Knowing that the contracts, rider (addendum)has been finalized and ready to sign has me shaking. Being the newbie I want my attorney to review and ensure I was protected. He has incorporated everything I asked and more by ensuring the wording fully protected my interest and gave me the exist strategies. However, the Seller's attorney is usually the one who drafts the contract and has kind of forgotten or ignored my attorney's statement to him that he (my attorney) was sending the contract.

One of the major things that has me scared, even though there are contingencies and exist clauses, is not finding a buyer since I will be Wholesaling this property. This all happened very quickly, that is landing on this property and before I had a buyers list in place. My main concern is that I don't want to isolate for example the gem of a Realtor I am working with if I fail to find a buyer especially being that this is the first deal we are working together.

I guess I just have to wait and see how my attorney works out the details with the Seller's attorney. In one way, I look at it positively, it gives the delay I may need to find a buyer.

I have placed ads on Craigslist, backpage.com, at the local REI club meetings, checked the papers for ads and not finding many, looking for bandit signs and now of course that I am looking for them, I can't find any.

My next step will be going down to the county clerks office to figure out how to find cash buyers (Please let me know what to look for)

If anyone has any other suggestions for locating Investors I would very much appreciate the insight.

Try putting your ads out on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 1-3pm and again @ 7-9pm. Believe it or not, it does make a big difference when and what time you post ads on CL. I hope this helps!

Wow, I didn't know that about Craigslist. I would have never thought that placing ads online on specific days mattered as much say as in the newspapers. I will definitely give this a whirl tomorrow and Thursday between those times.

What do you know about backpage whether that makes a difference or not?

You and Carol are right. The funny thing is this is the first time that although there is that FEAR (as Carol puts it "FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real"), I continue pushing forward as if its the only direction to go. Fear hasn't frozen me. I really believe having the power of the knowledge (though still learning a lot of it still) has given me a great deal of confidence. And now that I'm back on-line with everyone here again, I have all of you to keep me going too.

I kind of tested that theory myself when I placed an add one day and got zero responses, then placed it another day and got tons. I didn't know the exact days and times until today. I learned it from one of my marketing courses. So I'm happy to pass that on to all the CL posters out there.

Scared investors... who would have thought. I am glad our buyers don't see this forum. I never would have thought that everyone, even the "old hatters" has the same fear as us newbies.
