OfflineI spent the last hour talking to RIna and it occured to me that one of the reasons for my reverant irritation with people lately is not that I have grown and their questions irritate me...no thats not it.
I believe the answer is that the foundation is not completely there.
Please understand - I think every book Dean has written is AWESOME! but for me, and I stress, for me... the foundation to my REI success has been Be A Real Estate Millionaire.
BARM gave me the basis and the knowledge to try a multitude of different strategies. I think that if you read on of the other two books and don't read BARM then you dont have the complete picture.
It may also be the fact that BARM has way more creativity in it for me. It allowed me to open my mind and explore the REI possibilities that others never thought of. It allowed me the abilty to ask for things that I would have never othersise thought of.
I keep multiple copies of BARM all over the place. I se it to teach my real este investment group. I refer others to it. Now please don't think that I do not value the other two books, because I do and I am even in them, but I just realized that for me.... reading the other two books without reading BARM would be like watching the sequel in a movie and never really understanding the point of it because I never saw the original.
So I guess what I am trying to say is that if you are still finding yourself with lots of questions or wondering if yo missed something, maybe you should go and read Be A Real Estate Millionaire. The information and imagination in there is invaluable and if you want to FEEL the real Dean...then take a good read. For me I feel that there is invaluable experience to be gained from the reading of this book.
No I am not trying to get you to buy anyhing I just wanted to express my thoughts to you on what helped me. I re-read this book probably once a month or more and use it for reference all the time. I just want everyone on here to have the same skill set that I do and gain the same abundance of knowledge that I and so many others did. Read all threee books to get the complete picture - THEN - take the REI world be storm.
And in case you are reading this Dean..know that I love you and all you do. I just wanted to share what made me the REI I am today, and that was you and BARM!

Thanks Anita, I too feel that BARM is the foundation to which i can gain the basic knowledge and understanding to be a great REI, although i bought this book awhile ago i am now re-reading it and gaining more understanding,along with reading all the posts.And by the way Dean is having a work shop coming up in the area where i live and i can't wait to attend and meet other up and coming REI's. So i feel ya.
I have to say I like Dean's newest book best (Your Town, Your Real Estate Profits!),
BUT I would definitely NOT be without my BARM. Like you said, Anita, it sets the foundation for investing in every market cycle. And it was what opened my eyes to the world of REI and Dean's creative way of thinking! I have given one of those to each of my family to open their eyes as well.
SO, even though I have a new favorite, BARM is a MUST-have in my mind. (Actually, I don't know how you could separate the DG library, all 3 of the books are so good, and the new ones have so many links to forms and docs as well!)

I pretty much agree with you when you say that BARM is the foundation.
That was the book that got me hooked. I was too cheap to buy Dean's home study course for $40. (and I didn't really trust him at first, but he sparked my interest) so I went to Border's and read BARM for free. When I was two thirds through the book I decided I have to buy this book and own it because I loved it so much. He gave me hope that I CAN DO THIS!
I'm surprized to hear that you read it like once a month! That's a good idea, because you have to stay connected and you have to stay enthusiastic.
I confess that I bought the new book YOUR TOWN YOUR REAL ESTATE PROFITS, but I never read it. I started but never finished it. Instead I bought & read CASH IN WITH REAL ESTATE PROBATE by Jim Banks.
Dean's company did an infomercial with Jim Banks regarding this book. Dean mentioned that he filmed a show with Jim Banks at last years EDGE event. It even states in the book: published by Dean Enterprises, LLC. I don't know if we are allowed to talk about this but (uh oh! I did.) I read that book and I'm focussing on probates primarily.
(Ah umm.)
Anyway I agree with what you say about BARM. In many ways BARM is my favorite book as well. (Thus far)

If I ever only read one of Dean's books it would be "BRM."
I think Be a Real Estate millionaire is the Foundation Because its sets the Stage for everyone. It shows that YOU CAN MAKE MONEY IN ANY MARKET CYCLE and explains the strategies that should be applied during each cycle for maximum profit.
