This morning I had to deal with a very rude Realtor during my search for a representative. My question to the experienced folks is, what is their problem with investors, that they would act this way? Are their universal underlying issues that I can try to address in the future in order to avoid these confrontations, or ease their concerns?

are the same, some REA call themselves Realtors. There are plenty of other Realtors were you're at, even Brokers even. Find a Broker who is an open minded investor to work with you. God Bless in your REI endeavors

When you meet with an agent, you will need to convince them that you have a good business plan, know what you are doing, and are able to pull it off. Many agents have had bad experiances with investors. Most have not worked with a good experianced investor and are relying on your knowledge. If the agent is not convinced that you are capable of closing deals, they will probably not want to work with you.

The realtor you spoke with is nothing more than a self-serving over confident coach potato who believes that he/she deserves to have the big money deals come falling into their laps and forget about the little man out there. I wouldn't even let them deflate my dreams one bit and most definitely wouldn't waste brain space keeping the thought of them on it. Like AltCamel said, there're plenty of other agents out there who're just dying to work with you, just keep looking. Just remember that Dean says all of this in the book about people trying to dash your dreams. So, just keep your head up and your spirits high. you'll find that agent soon enough.
Much success

Atlcamel, thanks for the encouragement, I'm not going to stop due to the overinflated ego of one guy!
Max, I agree wholeheartedly. There's no way this guy's going to bother me. I was over it soon afterward, I just wanted to find out from folks here if they've had to employ any strategies when dealing with people like that.
Al, I think in this case it was probably just a case of personalities clashing. I knew the lingo, presented well, etc. I'm not worried about it as he's one out of hundreds. I'll find a couple for my purposes and make them wealthy along with myself!
Sounds like that Realtor will have a short career. In his business, he can not afford to turn away good clients.

Sometimes, its there ego that gets in the way, after all, they went to school to get the lisc. and here you come with a better working plan that will one day make you very comfortable and they will still be just what they are now. If you don't make a concious dicision to change the way things are today, you can bet that tommorrow will not be much different...

Hi Adam,
Sometimes they feel threaten because an investor means usually lower offer prices and that spells less commission. The only advise I would have is to say to yourself. NEXT! Keep focused. Continued success.......Lubertha

I can't understand why people are having a hard time with RE Agents. I'm from MA and I contacted Agent Greg(Rina knows him) and he introed me to two Brokers. I told them that I am new to investing and they said "We all have to start somewhere", that's no bull. I just can't understand why people are running into such problems...

Keep the faith and good luck with your real estate agent search. The state of the economy is making people a little more on edge these days. Especially some realtors salaries are way down because things are not selling. Thus, they may be under a little more stress than usual. Thus, find a good realtor you can work with and it can be a win-win for you! Good luck with investing. Believe and Achieve! - Joe

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I spent the entire day with my head in REI, reading posts, making notes, planning things out. I won't stop now!
Indiana Joe, thanks for your post! I follow your threads regularly; definitely an inspiration to me for the past several weeks!
I know you can succeed. Dean always says when you know your "why" for doing it nothing will stop you. Thus, you are already doing more than most people that want to change their lives. Keep up the good work and the positive attitude and I look forward to reading about your future success! Nothing can hold you back! Believe and Achieve! - Joe

Some realtors would rather not work as hard as an investor of this schoolof thought will require. My current Realtor said that he was at at networking event last year and was asked how he was doing by a group of very sucessful realtors at least they used to be. He told them that he moved over 100 houses that year, they were astonished. The best of all of them only sold 5. Goes to show you that good ones are out there, just keep qualifying them.

Tony Tomasek
I also might add that due to these slower times for realtors and agents, they are also more open to negotiation on the commissions; it's been true for me. In some cases, I have an agent offer up front to me a reduced commission, even before I thought of it.

I have been reading the posts and my question is What do you
say in the email to the agents to get them to answer you back?
Any Help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I'm using a slightly modified version of Matt Larson's letter (found on page 114 in PFRERN). Monday I'm going to start faxing it to various RE companies around town, and I'll also be posting it on Craigslist and other free classified sites as well. I know it's just a numbers game, so I'll take the rejections as they come and find that one REA out there who is willing to take as much of a chance as I am!
Thanks for the info I'm looking at it now and will to get my
version to use. I will be looking forward to hear how you do
Good Luck. I am looking for the same people looking to take the
chance as well.
Reguards
Russ.
