...Tonight I received a call from my aunt and she was clearing the clutter from her basement. She had a bunch of old record albums and wanted to know if I wanted them. ....The Winter Olympics 2010 have officially ended on Sunday night, but there were many memories made for a world wide audience. There are more than 90 million registered users on eBay and in 2009 there were sales of $60 Billion in merchandise. They figures out to be about $2,000 being sold every second! On Friday afternoon my neighbors son arrived at my door asking for help.
It seems that he had found a video game console on Ebay that he really wanted to buy.
The problem was his mother does not have an Ebay account, but she knew that I did.
He explained to me about the game and asked if he could use my account to bid on the game.
This young man is 12 years old and you could not only see his excitement about the game but also his nervousness about asking for help.
I asked him if he knew when the auction ended.
As it turned out I would be at work but my wife would be at home and was willing to help. He was very excited, and so was I.
You can bet that the first question I asked my wife on Saturday morning was "how did Jacob do with his auction?".
I can not tell you how happy I was to hear that he had won his item.
I have since spoken to both his mom and dad and they also related to me how happy and excited he was to be able to do this.
He had received a visa debit card for Christmas and this is what he had chosen to spend the money on.
This is truly one of those times when the expression "money isn't everything" applies.

Thanks for sharing those 2 great stories above. It is so awesome how eBay and Craigslist have changed our lives. I think about these companies only being around 15 years and wonder what we would have done without them. It is great to know that ecommerce is alive and well and bringing so much happiness to so many people. It is like getting a gift or an unexpected flower delivery. Hi Joe and Stacey and DG family

I’ve bought and sold items on both Craigslist and eBay and found it to be a helpful tool. For the past year, I’d forgotten about it and haven’t bought or sold anything via those avenues. However, since viewing this thread, I got to work, took some pictures and posted some items on both. I currently have about ten items listed. This past weekend, I went through our closets, took pictures of things we don’t really need, and put them in a bin. I encouraged my daughter to do the same who ended up gathering several toys herself. She enjoys making money. I’m teaching her at the young age of nine that she needs to earn what she wants. She already understands the concept of “investing;” buying low and selling high. It both cracks me up and makes me proud at the same time. LOL!

During this past holiday season, my daughter kept saying, “Our house looks so boring. Look at that house [with the lighting and decorations] and that house…” I made up some logical, financial reason why we didn’t have those expensive Christmas decorations for our house and yard every year. But, this past January, I went shopping after Christmas for decorations at 50% off for Christmas this year. I am going to surprise her. I can hardly wait! I’ve also got a few rolls of wrapping paper at 50% off. Unfortunately, I hadn’t had your brilliant plan of stocking up on re-saleables. Ah-ha, I will keep that in mind next January.

I’ve had to take a break from this log and go meet a Craigslist customer at a landmark away from our home. I sold my first item, this time around on!! This is a great start!

FYI, you can order flat rate boxes straight from USPS (United States Postal Service) at www.usps.com. It comes straight to you door. You can also order cool ones marked with “eBay” through the eBay site.
I enjoy using our Automated Postal Center (APC) that Vincent mentioned a while back in a posting. That saves me oodles of time, not to mention, it allows me to mail a package at anytime of day or night.

..I love hearing these Craigslist and eBay success stories from other DG Memebers. I had to share another great story with everyone. I received an email form Jake and thought this was just great! Read on......

"I already use Craigslist and Ebay to buy and sell cars as a hobby. January 2009 I bought 2 cars, one for $250 delivered to my house, and the other for $200 delivered to the Rock Island Arsenal Auto Hobby Shop. I am a Marine reservist and I can use the Auto Hobby shop to work on cars, motorcycles, whatever with a motor. It is very cheap $4 an hour to use a lift bay and all of the tools are free to use. I bought a 1996 four door Chevy Cavalier for $250 put $450 into it for parts and 10 hours of labor, sold it for $1,300. The other car was a 1995 Ford Escort bought for $200 put $800 and way to many hours of labor about 65 because of rust for a sold price of $1,200. Both Cars sold locally before the auction was over, for my reserve price. I found the cars on craigslist locally, after I fixed them I put an ad on ebay with 24 photos and a bullet list description of the work done and anything that may be needed. I also placed an ad on craigslist of the same list of information but as you know only 4 photos can be used. The most important thing I did was explain in the craigslist ad that I had it on ebay and that there are 20 additional photos. I had over 30 phone calls for the cavalier and 300 views for the car on ebay. A lady saw the ad and placed a bid of $1,100 but asked to see it locally. I had a buy it now price for $1,400 and a reserve of $1,200 she offered $1,300 cash on the spot, a signed title and deposit in the bank I had made a nice little profit of $600. The Escort had the same Marketing results but a lot less profit, due to the large amount extra time required to work on the car, but the experience was great!"

...Everyday there is an opportunity just waiting for you but you have to make sure your are open and looking so you just don't pass them by. I noticed a story was moving and having a "Going Out of Business Sale". This is a perfect opportunity for your Craigslist / eBay business. Smaller items can sell global on eBay and larger items such as furniture and fixtures can sell great on Craigslist.

Just make sure you have a good idea at what will sell and for how much. You can quickly find this out by looking at similar items on Craigslist and eBay. Ebay even has a history of auctiosn tha thave ended and what item have sold for. Often if you know one item may sell for say $200 and you can buy the entire lot for aroudn $200 there is very little risk because once you get your $200 back the entire rest of the lot is "gravy" and cash profits in your pocket.

....The weather is warming up and soon the deals that can be found at garage sales, yard sales, and swap meets will be starting again in the Midwest. This is an excellent resource to find some additional items for your internet business.

I also often scan items on Craigslist on a daily basis. The key is having a system such as searching Craigslist at least once a day to find those killer items. I believe once you sell a few thigns it will inspire you to sell even more. ...As you look for deals Locally on Craigslist, you can also post ads to get your phone ringing too. If you looking at buying specific items than this coudl be an awesome way to advertise for free. By just taking the time to post an ad or two, in the future you can relist that advertisement in under a minute's time all for free! How cool is that? If you get one good item a month that you can turn around and sell globally on eBay, that was time well spent. Remember a few minutes a day can lead to several hundred dollars a week or month. If you have some extra time, check out the recently ended items for auctions on eBay for types of items you may be selling. Remember this can be part of your hobby activities so it can be fun. A friend of mine enjoys fishing and has a boat that he takes out on Lake Michigan any chance he gets. He knows what fishing supplies, lures, equipment, etc is selling for. He also knows about accessories for his boat. If you know a hobby or a sport it can become profitable and fund. thought i would stop by today and let you know i just purchased a used car from a coworker that is buying a new one.i will be listing it on craigslist to generate some cash!! it is a 2000 chrysler 300 m. with 151000 miles on it. it runs excellent as i have ridden in it many times when we car pool. alot of miles but i bought it cheap. $800 i am going to list it for 1500 and WILL take as low as 1000 if necessary as it would make a great car for someone out of work or struggling with high debt.even if i make 200 in a week or 2 that would be an awesome profit for just typing a for sale ad on craiglist!! tax refund time is upon us as well so i will keep u posted on what happens.

Thats a great idea about flipping the car. Thanks for sharing the story. I know those Chrysler 300M are popular cars. My friend sold a pair of the tail lights for $75 dollars on eBay. He knew a guy that put on the smoked "tricked out" type of tail lights and he was going to throw out the old ones. My friend said he would take them and made a quick $75 on eBay. The options and opportuntities for making cahs on Craigslist and eBay are endless. I know if you clean up the car and get it shionign you make even get the full $1,500! ... With the warm weather I began my Spring cleaning and I found some brand new clothes (still with the price tags) that I have not worn. I feel if I have not worn them in a year, I probably will never wear them. These will be the latest items that I clear the clutter and sell globally on eBay. ...The day started off with a chill in the air as I drove to the US Post Office to mail a few items and get a few more US Priority Boxes (which are free). Later in the day I will be taking some diigital photos of itesm to sell. Pictures are very important so always ensure the picture shows as much as the item as you can. I've just started to read thru the journals here. 1 of the drawbacks to working full time (besides the not great pay) is time. I really want to be able to take my time researching all this REI info. I'm going to start taking a look at some of the things that I can sell on ebay to help out with finances and perhaps this could lead to some properties as well.
