Lisa's First Success Journal!!

Lisa's First Success Journal!!

Hi, everyone.

My name is Lisa and I'm a 52 (EDIT: 53 now as of 3-30!!!) (54 now Shocked !!!!!!) year old single mother, career student, and Social Security Disability recipient. I am a cancer survivor (16 years now) and have been plagued with depression for as long as I can remember.

Last year, after not going to school or working since 1998, I decided to jump back into college. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired all the time, and broke. My income had been cut by 1/3 in January of 2009. Then, I just lost my housing assistance which effectively cut my income by 1/3 once again in August of this year. I knew that I could get some money if I went to school, grants and scholarships (I hoped). But, even with the grants and such, this time I had to take out student loans. I figured I could pay them off when I got a really good job in the Technology field.

Well, I started at the University of Phoenix full time in June of last year (2009). I got all A's but I didn't learn much. It's a long story but suffice it to say that I decided not to finish which means I have this huge looming student loan that I have to start paying on soon.

Anyway, with that out of the way, I'll tell you what I'm doing now. Last week sometime I was up in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep (as usual). I turned on the tv and I sat and watched as Dean got into his car and record himself on his way home. He was on about his new book, "Profit From Real Estate Right Now!", and I sat and watched the whole thing thinking this was something I really would like to do. I particularly liked the part about not having to have good credit, or money for a down payment.

I had thought about RE in the past, but just didn't think I was cut out for it. I decided to order the book and was also able to get "Be A Real Estate Millionaire" for only shipping and processing. When my order came, there was a DVD included about the Success Academy.

To make a long story short, the first thing I did was enroll in the Success Academy and I am on my first lesson now. I am shooting for my first deal in 30 days! So, wish me luck and say a prayer for me (if you do that) so that I can make this come true. Thanks to everyone here, and to the whole DG team.

Hey Lisa

I've been thinking about you! I hope you are seeing better days. I am still working on getting a deal out there in AZ. I have one other investor I'm working with, but if you want to do some bandit signs and CL advertising, let me know. Smiling

Hope you are kicking that depression in the BUTT and tell it where to go. I can relate all too much as well; but thinking positively when the depression comes in has helped me out a lot. My mom suffered horribly with Manic Depressive disorder, and it was like a roller coaster for her. I will keep you in my prayers!

Thank you

Tammy, thanks for your encouraging words. I have been trying to kick it's butt, and darnit I think I'm winning. Thanks for your prayers, they help. I decided to post in here this morning because I haven't in a while, and I really want to start moving forward again. I will succeed, God willing. God first, I am learning! "Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be added unto you."

Time to get some sleep. Talk to you soon, and God bless!!

Good to hear from you

I think of you often Lisa and I don't want you to feel obligated to reply. I know that has to be very difficult for you on your phone like that. BTW that is very impressive how resourceful and clever you are to even figure that out. Anyway, that is partly why I have not written you for a while even though I wanted to see how you are doing. I was afraid you would feel like you need to reply. I'm glad you are hanging in there. I too have had my share of experience with depression and obstacles. I don't have some advice or wisdom to share at this time. If I did you have probably already heard it before from folks more qualified to say it than me, sorry.

I do want you to know that I will answer all messages ASAP and maybe next time I will even have a better pep talk speech for you, lol. Sorry, this is not one of my finer moments in writing.

Always here for you.

Hiya Steve

So happy to read your encouraging comments. I appreciate it very much! I hope you are doing well, better than I am hehe. I'm back and reading and listening and watching stuff and am going to come up with a plan in the near future as to where I want to start. I've got a couple of buyers and I'll kick myself if I don't try and find something for them. Wish me luck!!!! I have to get over the fear of starting, ya know what I mean? Smiling Take care, and I'll talk to you soon.

Yikes!

It's been over a month since I posted in my journal and I felt it was getting a bit stale. I could also swear that I heard it calling my name, so I came to check up on it and feed it. Sticking out tongue So, where to start? I am presently reading Dean's book, Totally Fulfilled, and it's awesome and if you haven't read it yet? Go get it! It's an absolute MUST have!! A Must! And I'm not lying. This book should be in the curriculum in every middle / grade school, not some of this cookie cutter crap that they put on us and our children. I have more to say about the school system but that's gonna have to wait for another rant Eye-wink.

Anyway, I am plugging along with this my chosen profession. It is my soul mate. I'm glad we met, but there are many facets to real estate that I tend to get overloaded and overwhelmed, with all there is to know about it.

More to come soon. Thanks to those of you I've just recently met!

Wow

I vaguely remember posting the previous post. I sure am silly when I don't get enough sleep! Anyway, I have some things to actually talk about this time.

So, I sold a stove my mom gave me that I was gonna switch out with my present stove, but didn't. It had been sitting on my driveway by my shed for a couple of months. Actually, since that really gnarly AZ dust storm that passed through here not long ago that was in the national news cuz it was SO massive. Google it if you're interested, you will not believe the massiveness of this thing. I mean, it looked like a plague covering Phoenix and the surrounding areas! Anyway, back on track. This stove had been sitting here and I decided to just list it on craigslist. It's in excellent shape except the handle had a broken screw. And, it HAD been clean before that dust storm, but hey, beggars can't choosy as they say and I had it listed for ONE DOLLAR hehe. Kinda like a ghost ad, but not really, because when someone clicked on the ad, it said BEST OFFER. So, this lady offered $75 bucks for it and I thought GREAT! That blew me away because I had listed it for $150 bucks, then down to $75 and I had NO bites. So, I was pleased. Anyway, her hubby came by to pick it up today (good thing cuz I got a notice on my door that I couldn't have it on my driveway ugh), and lo and behold, what does he do for a living?? He's a builder! Yes, very coincidental. So, I gave him a small stack of business cards and told him to email me. Smiling

K, another thing that I failed to post when it first came up because it did not occur to me (der). A few months ago, I was trying to find a home for a kitty that found her way on my doorstep. It took a long time, but I somehow found my way to an organization called "Lost Our Home Pet Foundation". Hmmm, right? And it didn't even occur to me initially that this may be another coincidence. Anyway, long story short and several months later, I was able to get my kitty vetted and into her new home. Then just recently, I received an email from them and I looked at the name in a new light. These people help homeowners who are going into foreclosure to find homes for their pets! Duh, right? I don't know why I didn't see it before. More later. Smiling

Wow, a record

Twice in one day! Ok, technically not because it's after midnight Smiling

So, I'm watching the EDGE 2010 dvds, and Bill O'Rafferty is on. I was eating a piece of chicken while I was watching and I swear he talks so fast my food was half digested before he was finished haha. And, no offense at all to Bill O'Rafferty, he's got a TON of good stuff to learn from! I may just have to download it and put it on a slow speed playback lol. Anyways, I'll post more tomorrow. I'm really going to try to post at least something in here every day if at all possible. Carry on!

Yikes!!

It's been over two months since I last posted. I feel like a car that's sputtering, advances a few feet, stops, sputters, and then stops. That's what it's been like for me. It's my own fault. I have let life kick my butt. As I type this, I'm lying here in my bed (on the lappy), and it's roughly 6:50 am on Thursday morning. I've been up for a couple of hours, reading. I am not going to post the negative things that have been happening, both financially and personally. I refuse to give it any more power. Instead, I am going to brainstorm as I type. So, here goes.

I am going to go out today and drive for dollars. It's almost through the first week in December, and I have not done a deal this year yet (or ever, for that matter), so I am going to make an all out attempt to make my first deal before the end of the year. I am also going to go through the list of absentee owners I have and choose ones I will be contacting in the next day or so. I will also be going through the list of cash buyers I stumbled upon (over 20k!!) and figure out how to contact them and ask for their criteria. This is not rocket science, and I'm done "learning". I KNOW what I need to do, and now I must do it.

So, that's what's going on with me! I've wasted far too much time "learning", and procrastinating, and now is the time. NOW is the time! Please say a prayer for me. Thanks. Smiling

Hey Smurfy

glad to hear that you're ready to go out and take some action! it is easy to fall into the only learning mode-I'm guilty of that Eye-wink but if we don't apply what we've learned, or better yet, learn as we go, nothing is going to happen; we have to go out and make it happen!

I will say a prayer for you, wishing that you stay strong and positive, and get that first deal done!

Learning and progressing every day,
Valerie

Good for you

Hiya Sweetsmurf,

Sorry I haven't been in touch lately. I like reading your posts no matter what your talking about, but I especially am happy to see that you are moving forward. I myself have lulls and plenty of obstacles and most of the time it does seem as if everything I touch turns to mmmm you know. I too struggle with keeping the course. I also have had some moments where a phone call or email turned into something unexpected and even a bigger, better opportunity. So much of what you say I really relate too. But I really just wanted to say that I'm very proud of you and so long as we never give up it has to happen for us, right?

Hugs
Steve

Hello, it's me

I really appreciate your comments, Val and Steve. I thought I'd update what's going on with me. I don't want to start on a down note and list all the things that have kept me from doing anything, just suffice it to say they are things that make it not physically possible to do what I need to get this going. Forget the depression factor, and the fact that I have been sick for months. I wound up in the hospital last week, but am now home recuperating. Sighs, stress is a killer, it really is. I wish I knew how to think differently.

I have been listening to various things such as the Law of Attraction and Thought Vibrations, and also have to finish reading these positive thinking books of Dean's (can't remember one of them right now) but Veronica and Steve did a post about it, it's that book. Anyway, as long as I have breath inside of me, I will keep shooting for it, keep reading, trying to come up with creative ways to work around my present limitations, etc.

If there are any of you out there that pray, please say a prayer for me. I really need it right now. Love you guys. I'm trying to keep my chin up. I ain't givin' up just yet. Hope everyone else is doing well. Oh, and congrats to the winners of the mentoring situations, that's so awesome for you!

Lisa

Wow

It's been nearly 24 weeks since I've posted in here. That's almost time enough to gestate a child, by golly! So, I just wanted to touch bases with this place and you all. Lots of stuff's gone on since I was around here before, and I've stepped back from REI for a while. I'm back to studying again, and am going to try this again. Stay tuned, more to come!! Wish me luck!!

It's time

I have not been around lately, and I have not been moving forward with REI for quite some time. It never goes away, I mean, it won't leave me alone! So, I've given it enough time to get out of my system where I've finally decided that I really need to do this or I will never have any peace in my life! So, I'm putting it in God's hands, and asking him to guide me in everything I need to do, while removing my ego, desires, etc. and just giving in to Him and I suspect it will work out this time around. I only ask for prayers from anyone who reads this (who does that kind of thing) and I really appreciate this site and the people on it. Thank you all for being here and I guess just expect to see more of me in the future. That's it for now!

Major Yikes!!!!

It has been 32 weeks (omfrkg) since I last posted in here!! That's long enough to gestate a baby Shocked Unfricknbelievable!! So, I updated my profile but most people don't read those (I don't think) so I just copied it and will paste it here. I trust all y'all's are doing well and making lots of deals and stuff! Right?? Smiling Well, I have not given up the real estate ghost yet and I'm still alive and kicking so we'll see what the future holds! Amen!

UPDATE:
Omg I am staring 55 down in it's face!!!! And I am still Not giving up!! Yes, it's been almost exactly 2.5 years since I first came on this site and found out about all the neat and life-changing gold nuggets that are here (free!!!) on this awesome website, and Dean, who is THE most selfless man I've ever (not met yet) known, and I am seriously just as excited as I was when I first saw that "little Italian guy" (as Carol Stinson so eloquently puts it) on that infomercial at godonlyknows what time it was in the wee hours of the morning before the hairy butt crack of dawn those 2.5 years ago!!! GOD has it been wonderful watching so many people take this knowledge and SOAR with it!!! My turn will come, see, because I have learned to be patient and it WILL happen in GOD's timing for my life and I know I am right where he wants me. So, do stay tuned as I plan on becoming a ROCK STAR (not literally like my son lol) in the near future!!!!!

Ok, time to commit.

Hi, everyone.

This August, it will be FOUR years since I started on this website after watching Dean's late night infomercial. Many things have happened since then to keep me from doing any kind of gainful employment including rei, but mainly health issues. It is really hard to do anything when you simply do not feel well enough to even get out of bed. For at least three years, I have been developing a mass in my left sinuses that I was not aware of. It came after having a tooth pulled and I'm pretty sure the dentist nicked my sinus which allowed infection to get in and spread throughout my whole left side of my face, even into my forehead. That dentist had tried to do a root canal in that tooth but was unsuccessful. When he removed the tooth, he had to fight it to get it out and he wound up leaving a piece behind in my gum. Additionally, it was a tooth that had a mercury filling in it which, after finally getting the rest of the piece of tooth out, turned my gum brown. (I have a mouth full of mercury, including many crowns and several root canals. This was as a result of having gone through chemo for cancer. Chemo kills the fast growing cells, and our teeth are included in that and really suffer for it). Additionally, that dentist knocked the crown off the tooth that was next to the pulled one as he was trying to pull the bad tooth, but he glued it back on. Soon afterward I developed a bad toothache in that tooth.

Trying to make a long story short, but I wound up going to another dentist who's exray showed it was probably a sinus infection and he was the one who said my sinus may have been nicked during the tooth extraction. The tooth that the other dentist knocked off did not need to come out, whew! But, I then had to go to my doctor to be treated for a sinus infection. We tried several courses of antibiotics, but I got little relief. I finally found some money and went to a biological dentist (look that up - they know how to remove mercury dental work safely) who took a panoramic view of my face. He showed me how I have low grade infection throughout, especially where there were root canals, and he confirmed that the toothache was probably a sinus infection. He removed and replaced the biggest exposed mercury filling I had but that was all I could afford at that time. It was going to cost me roughly $10k to get everything fixed and being on Disability, that was not going to happen anytime soon. This was about three years ago (not sure what the cost would be now).

About six months after that, I wound up in the hospital emergency room due to a reaction I had to a steroid pack my doctor put me on to try to clear up the sinus infection. (Sheesh, this is getting long lol. I'm sorry if it's tmi for anyone, but I really want to explain what's going on with me because I intend to be a success story no matter how long it takes me or what I have to go through. Also, it really seems to be helping me psychologically to write it all out). Soooo... on the way home from the hospital that night (my sister had been dropped off by her husband to drive me and my car home - I had been given two Morphine shots- because I had driven myself as no one was home at the time), we were involved in an accident. It was not my sister's fault, someone just pulled out in front of us and we crashed into them. Car totaled. Neither of us were hurt badly, but I was now without a car for a few months before settling with the other driver's insurance and was able to get another car. And, I still had the sinus infection.

Fast forward to this year. My primary care doctor referred me to an ENT (ear, nose, throat specialist) and an MRI showed I needed surgery. The sinus infection had eventually became a large mass that spread to the entire left side of my face, pushing into the right side, deviating my septum. Early March, I had the surgery and have been trying to recuperate since. I still go see the ENT every couple of weeks where he has to stuff numbing packing up into my sinuses, and then he has to debride and removed... well, I won't gross you out here. I still have issues as I'm recuperating, but it's taking a long time because it would appear that I'm severely allergic to some things, particularly dust (I think everyone is), and AZ is full of dust!

One other major thing that stymied me is that my "new" car's engine died and I was again without a car for several months until I could borrow the money to get it fixed. Sigh.

Anyway, that really is the shortened version of the last three to four years since I started. I'm not making excuses for not having had any success in this yet, but life has been really challenging. Even so, God really, REALLY blessed me by dropping a ticket to this year's EDGE event into my lap (!!! thank you, Tony!!!) and I was able to attend the first day, Saturday, but I woke up with a toothache that morning (grr!). Because of that, I was taking strong pain meds and had trouble staying awake so I really didn't get as much out of it as I could have. Then, on Sunday, the toothache was so bad that I just could not make it. I called and was able to get online access, hoping to be able to watch from home, but I could do nothing but sleep the entire day. Fortunately, I can still watch the online version, but it's just not the same, is it? Plus, I really missed not being able to meet some of you that I have been reading about and looking up to for all these years! It's ok, though! I will be there next year, God willing. It really is up to Him, and I really am thankful for what He has given me. I could be living in a third world country and starving, but I'm not! There is always someone else worse off than you, somewhere, but I really try not to compare myself to anyone else, bettor off or worse off. God gives us what HE wants us to have, after all, we are HIS. Only HE knows our beginning from our end, so to Him be the glory, and I will be back soon to post again!

God bless you guys, I love you, and thanks to Dean for this wonderful site!

Sincerely,

smurfy

Fascinating, Lisa.

Wow, I am so glad you are hanging with us as your health issues basically took control of your life. I found your journal compelling and came back tonight to finish reading it. Health issues can really affect the quality of life.

It's also great to see how many people are in your corner. Please count me as one more fan of yours.

Like you I've been a slow starter. I am counting on you getting healthy and rocking the REI world. I believe in you and I believe that I can step out and make a difference also. Keep going, Lisa. I know you can do this and I can too.

Be your very best always-Judy Williamson.

Heya

Patrick, thanks for your post and for your vote of confidence! I wish you all the very best as well! We're in it to win it, right? Smiling That's my new motto. We're IN IT to WIN IT. Of course, I'm working for a win, win, win situation for all involved, otherwise it won't be a blessing. That's how I see it, anyway! Take care,

Lisa

P.S. We're IN IT to WIN IT. Smiling

So, I was going to update my first post, but I figured most people wouldn't read that anyway, so I'm updating here. Besides, one more post and I will have reached 1500 pts, woohoo! Not sure why that excites me so much, but hey. Smiling So, the update is.... ready for it...? I turned 56 this year!! Shocked Man, I feel old... hehe.

Sooooo

I really missed it around here, and it feels soooo good to be back! Since I stopped coming around here a couple of years ago (has it really been that long??), I had hooked up with a local rei group and was going to that once a week. Then my car died, and I had been sick for a long time and found out what that was, had the surgery, so had stopped going to that for several months. Now that I'm back on my feet, I plan to start going back to that again this Thursday.

Of course, when things you are doing don't work out, and major obstacles get in your way, you question if you're on the right road or not. I did this for a long time regarding rei. I still think that is what I'm supposed to be doing, so I'm going to give it another chance. .When I first started, I was GREEN. I mean, I knew NOTHING about real estate at all, let alone how to invest or if it were even possible for the little guy (like me). I have since learned so so so very much, and this site has made all the difference in the world. If I never wind up getting that first deal, I've still learned so much even just about life from the people here, and from Dean. I can't thank him enough for allowing us to be here like this. Every other real estate "guru" that has a site like this charges you for it. I know Dean has a paying site, and I plan on joining that in the near future. But, he had this non-paying site here for YEARS before that and it's STILL here, so he wins. Smiling

Hi, Lisa

It seems that you are coming back full bore. I agree with you about the paid Insiders Elite (IE) site. It certainly was not in my budget for awhile there and I thought to myself "Some day." That day came earlier than I thought because Dean dropped the price with some limitations on access to certain parts of IE. But less than $30 monthly was/is something I could do.

But, of course, Dean has told us that he is committed to keeping this (free) site going and recently put in some upgrades that I believe will give us all a better experience here. But I do want to correct a part of your comment. Free is great (Thanks, Dean), so Dean wins, you win, I win, we all win.

Just the fact that you are here is great. Keep us posted on how you are and what you are up to. If I can be so bold as to speak for the DG family, we love hearing from you. It seems like your sleeping patterns are less out of wack than before if you are attending a REI group locally on a weekly basis. I hope that works out well with networking and building relationships, etc.

Be your very best always-Judy Williamson

What you focus on is where your energy goes-Kristin

With gratitude,
Patrick
