OfflineI went to our local, monthly REI club meeting for the first time last night. I went in having NO idea what to expect, NOR whom I might meet.
I found the experiences of the several speakers to be VERY enlightening, and helped to reinforce the fact that our training here is INDEED accurate and up to snuff.
In fact I felt that I was very much able to converse with those at the meeting in a comfortable manner without being nervous that I might seem too much like a novice.
In Fact.....the club presented the training in such a way that even a new investor would be able to catch on quickly...(very impressed).
The biggest and MOST IMPORTANT occurence that I was privy to was meeting an older gentleman who was close to 60 yrs old, and I asked him in passing "how long have you been investing?" He responded..."30 years" ...I said WOW......."you must have aquired quite a few properties by now"....to which he responded....about 150 properties...and HOLDING. He told me that his philosophy is that "if it cash flows...you keep it".....This man has 35 duplexes and about 70 other units as well....later that night I checked county records and confirmed this. The EXCITING thing is that this man was totally humble, and didn't act like anyone special in the meeting. You NEVER would have known that he was a MULTI- MILLIONARE Investor. During my discussion of the deal I am currently working to close on....he just came out and said..." I have a private lender that has better rates that I can give to you".......WOW.....a lead to another private money source......GOLDEN. Anyway, in the end.....I asked if we might have coffee sometime, and he said ANYTIME....come on by.
If any of you question the VALUE of joining your local REI club, or Networking....THINK AGAIN....You might just meet an AWESOME networking friend. It might very well be that this contact changes the very direction and speed of my REI future.
BUILD your knowledge base....it is your ARSENAL to wage war against disbelief and the negativity of the status quo. You need your weapons......It's your choice whether you carry them or not.

Still looking for the REI club in my area of Portland, OR / Vancouver, WA, but your article was fabulous. I totally get the idea of networking with people who for no other reason want to see others like themselves succeed. I have learned quickly to move on and beyond those who feel they have some entitlement to the investment market. ... I really appreciated hearing your story!!!
I have always had a hard time finding a local REI club where I live in Southern Maryland, but will go to one that was just created recently for the first time next week. I've always heard that if you don't have one, then start one yourself. Might be another option if you're finding yourself driving long distances.

Do whatever you can to find investors in your area to Network with and perhaps be mentored by....Don't give up.

I have been touting the REI club as my second best move. Newbies don't understand how important these clubs are. i have made serious contacts and advise just by spending 2 hours a month. REI CLUBS= $$$$$...Jan
REI clubs are awesome...I went to my first one on Wed night, and it was amazing...Had no clue what to expect, but a very intelligant person was speaker that has done over 250 rehabs(just rehabs-not anything else-)and was so great...Wonderful tips on how to sell homes quicker, explained that every investor should no bout wholesaling and how to do it...met another investor that I am going to keep in contact with even though he is investing bout an hour away, but ya never know what is going to happen and can never hurt to have more contacts...Another guy that I talked with new his stuff...He was talking bout everything from rehabbing to court type stuff...Not just forclosure...I am def going to be joining the club...I was able to check it out for free since it was my first time...Also got a couple hard money lenders that hopefully I will be able to use at some point...Also, they let anybody explain to everyone there bout deals they are working on, which has many advantages...So anyways, all in all, def atleast check out the REI clubs if you are serious.

I am doing my first hard money loan with www.privatemoneysource.com They are in Portland, and seem easy to work with. Right now it takes 30-40 days to get funding though, so don't try to close too quick.
