First of all, let me just say I'm new here and I just found out this website by sheer luck, and I just ordered dean's 'Be A Real Estate Millionaire' book. So as I'm awaiting it to arrive, I was wondering if I could get a few tips here and there before hand, as a new member of the DG family and the Real Estate game all together. Thanks.
P.S. I can't wait to get started in this, because I've always been interested in Real Estate, but I just never knew how/where to get started.

Hello,
Oh my goodness!
Where to start?
Go to the Real Estate Forums link at the top of the page (left hand side)
and read, read, read, there is quite an education to be had here!
I read alot of those forums already, but none of them seem to have the basic knowledge for a begginer. Everything on those forums are for like high class investors, and I can't understand a single term of what is discussed in them.
But thanks anyways, I'll just be waiting for a more experienced Investor to reply to my forum lol..

Welcome to the DG Family!
I would advise you to read the book (and more than once) when you get it, then you will understand what the forums are talking about. ALL the members here will tell you this is the FIRST step...kinda like studying for an exam. It all looked like greek to me at first too! Did you read the getting started forum? These are questions from "newbies" and lots of answers from members and coaches. Also, Rina has posted a glossary of terms, maybe that will help you understand the terms...I hope I was able to help.

Welcome to the DG family. Good to have you here.
It's true. The first thing is to read the book. Absolutely!
In the meantime, be keeping your eyes open for properties in your area that have realtor's signs or "For Sale By Owner" signs. OR houses that you notice are vacant. Just get a feel for what your area has to offer. You will be deciding on a "target" area that you will want to research. Neighborhoods that people will want to either buy in, or would be good areas to have a rental in.
Ask a realtor what single-family homes in the area are selling for right now. You can just say you are looking for a house. You can start low-key. You don't necessarily have to say you're an investor right off the bat. Just see what homes with say 3 bedrooms, 1 or more baths are selling for. Ask if they could print you off some examples of recent sales, and some that area available now. Then just do some driving.
Also, if you haven't already looked into it, call a couple of mortgage brokers/banks to see what you can qualify for in regards to a home loan or Home Equity line of credit. It won't cost anything and it will tell you what resources you may easily have (or not have) available to you once you're ready to go.
I'm trying to think of when I FIRST started (no knowledge), and what the first steps would be. I may have gone TOO far back to basics for you. If so, sorry, but hope that helps a little.

Rule #1 buy real estate for 30-50 percent below value.
Rule #2 refer back to rule #1
Seriously if you buy real estate really cheap then everything gets easier. Renting, financing, selling etc.
You've got to find your obstacles and call them out! Unsheath the sword, and do battle with whatever it is that holds you back!
