OK, I want to say that I get such a thrill out of doing this contest and that reading the up and comers reminds me how I was in that position once myself. I will not forget how difficult it is to both get started in REI as well as how much dedication it takes to turn a negative profit business to profitable again. I NEED YOUR HELP!
WE HAD ALMOST A VIRTUAL TIE FOR 2nd and 3rd; separated by only 0.2pts. This is a contest that is put up entirely by the DG family, NOT Dean, not his companies, not the coaches, but US here. I do not want to put the burden on Dean to come up with exorbitant amounts towards this contest when he already gives us so much of himself and his time.
If we can raise $5K for this, our 3rd place winner will get to goto the EDGE. We are at about $1100. We need about $3900. That is 390 more donators at $10 each **OR** if you have $20 to donate, that is only 185 people donating. Also, if we raise the $5000, we can do the contest again next year. Please, if you are able, contribute. If you are in a position where this isn't possible at all, it is totally understandable. But basically, do we, as the DG family, want to be able to pay it forward to the new up and comers? Won't you consider a donation of any amount today? Thank you so much for listening!!!!

Last year, James Kendrick ran a contest for people to WIN a chance to goto the Edge. This year I thought I'd start the thread!
First, we need for DGers who are out there making it happen to donate to the cause. Who's ever up for it, you can either email me with your donation amount or put it right here on this thread. No amount is too small or big 
The EDGE is an AWESOME learning opportunity. But, probably even more, its a great NETWORKING tool and an experience that can't be replicated.
Secondly, we need judges to vote on essays. To become a judge you need to be an active contributor to the sight and/or have done at least 4 deals. (both sides of the deals count). Please contact me at EDGE2012Contest at gmail dot com. Please, NO PMs about this. (I am not very good at organizing my PMs on this site).
Pay attention to this closely. Third, to enter the contest you will have to do 2 things. Write an essay that will convince the judges that YOU should be one of the person's chosen to goto the EDGE event. Second, you must be open to any of the judges contacting you either via email or phone. There will be 2 winners; more if there are more contributions to the cause. You also must be able to get to the EDGE and pay for lodging, as well as be able to make it on the days of the EDGE event (April 27-29). It is not required that you've completed a deal yet. Follow the directions carefully.
--Your essay should be kept more than 400 words, but kept under 1000 words and be about why we should choose YOU to goto the EDGE.
--You must also have filled out your entire DG profile and told us a little about yourself in your profile.
--You must include your name, your contact information (phone and email), your time zone, and your DG screen name at the beginning of your essay as a cover page.
--The title of your essay should be 'Gain the EDGE 2012 Essay, YOUR DG NAME', listed on your cover page.
--Pages, if you should go over 1, need to be numbered.
--You should post to this thread after you've sent your essay.
--Your essay should answer the following questions for the judges:
***Why you want to goto the EDGE?
***What REI means to you
***What will you do if you fail at any time?
***What you think it takes to be successful in REI?
***What will you do with the information you get at the Edge?
***What are you doing now and what have you done so far to build your REI?
Essays should be sent to/evaluators should contact me at EDGE2012Contest at gmail dot com. EVERYONE has a chance to win this! We look forward to reading your essays! The deadline to receive essays will be FEBRUARY 29th; and we will narrow it to 6 finalists. Good luck everyone!

@Valerie, This contest depends on seasoned investors who are making it happen to contribute. The minimum granted will be 2 persons; however, if more of successful and seasoned investor contribute more, we may have more.
Counting on our successful investors on pledging something as well like they did last year.
@Karen, The email address is the same as the one for judges/donations.
But I will revise the post a little to reflect it a little easier. Loved meeting you at EDGE last year! 
I'm hoping to be available more for the after hours events this time!

yes, I know that it depends on raising funds from seasoned investors, but maybe you didn't know about Jan and Jeremy recently asking for donations to contribute to Dean's cause for families in need (link below), so many of us have just made a donation; but hopefully many others will contribute to the "send me away to the Edge 2102" fundraiser.

What was this fundraiser for (the original thread)? I think I saw that thread but I wasn't sure the future of my refi and the house, so I couldn't commit to anything at that time (in general, not getting the loan would have sunk me had we not gotten something through; we were facing HUGE penalties to extend the HML). I'm promoting this thread in many places, so hopefully people will participate; both for the contest and to help with judging and donations. I am happy. I am healthy. I feel terrific. Feb 20th. There have been no submissions, no judges volunteered or donations pledged yet. 
But, I did just post it late last night, so that isn't surprising. 
I am so excited. I'm already taking advantage of the opportunity to go to EDGE. I have already started on my essay. How wonderful! I hope I'm one chosen to be at EDGE so I'm seizing the moment now!!
If I can recount all the good deeds I've done, I haven't done enough.

It takes time to figure out the right words to use, to answer the questions you've posed for the essay. AND to do so in an award winning manner.

I'm in a dilemma in that I have no judges yet. DG members? Any takers on being a judge this year? Or donating?

That's a great idea! We could make it optional as well so people that really can't afford it at all don't need to. But, I am really shocked that seasoned DGers haven't stepped up to the plate at all on this.
I do have to say there is backing on this, but we still need to get donations. And judges.
Jan recently did a thread gathering donations and he had a tough time of it too. But, I'd imagine that was because other people did a lot of donations for other things as well.
