How do you stay motivated?
I felt to ask to question for all the vets and newbies. It is so easy to fall back into the rat race.
To get comfortable, to try one of Dean's techniques and just give up. To open one his books, read half-way through it and throw to the side like I did almost a year ago.
So I ask, what keeps you coming back for more? What is your reason to pick up the phone and make another call?
To send out those mailings? To post those ads? To continue looking for buyers?
One of my biggest motivations/inspirations are the people who I have been able to associate myself with. A wonderful group of people who teach, inspire, motivate and hold me accountable. I'm truly blessed and grateful for each and every one of them.
My biggest "Why" is I want to be able to retire my parents. They have worked so hard for so many years and they deserve their first house, along with pursing their dreams and goals. Because of RE, I will be able to it. That's my motivation.
What's yours?

One thing I always did, was think whats going to happen if this doesnt work? It was always the same answer, I would still be doing what Im doing now. I just wasnt ready for that.
I would read , listen etc everyday , I wanted this so bad ,that I wasnt going to let it get by.There were days ,that I didnt feel like doing any Real Estate or anything at all.But sometimes a day or so would go ,and I would come back to reality and see that there is NO WAY , to make the money you can and have the freedom without Real Estate.
I hope this shed some life on it Josh, hope this helped.

Thank you for sharing. This is exactly it. Being able to share your experiences, your ups and downs, and despite it all, you keep going. I know the feeling of not wanting to do anything, but your "Why" comes back to remind you to stay the course. Thanks again Curtis for sharing.

DONT try to learn EVERYTHING about REI-- Pick ONE niche/avenue,assigns, fix/flip,sfh,mobile homes, etc--just pick ONE and then study, read and re-read about that ONE niche until you GET IT. Learn the VALUES.
1. set your GOALS
2. set a PLAN to reach the goals-schedule it and do it-NO EXCUSES
3. follow the PLAN each day- you're getting closer and closer
4. Think how it will feel to say "I DID IT" and have that 1st check!!!,then the 2nd and 3rd and your ability to help your parents. It gets easier and easier with each deal you complete.
5. there will be hurdles and bumps in the road--but remember, just follow the road that Dean layed in front of you,its a tested and proven road to success, all you have to do is FOLLOW it.
NO shortcuts- NO excuses
I tried to learn everything about REI and its OVERWHELMING and impossible.
When I started I didn't know/learn about OPM or L/O or assigns, I just knew numbers well and knew by the numbers alone if it was a deal or not.
I stopped (not quit) 3 times, and had completed a deal here and there and continued to work before I got serious and said "I GOT TO DO THIS"
I was so tired of putting up with the BS and same ole stuff and it seem to be getting worse and I had had enough, it was time, so I got serious and never looked back or let anything or anybody get in my way, no matter what they said or did.
I was tired of taking BS from

I also share similar thoughts... My parents have worked for others for so many years +30 years that I want something better for myself and family. I am working hard to reach independence and freedom. I keep myself motivated just by reading these blogs, talking to other investors, and trying to help others. It is interesting to hear what others have to say, but I believe determination will be key to reach what you want in life.

my goals everyday. My first goal is to get that first deal and my second goal is to get many deals and my third goals to to get alot of experience and be able to do deals easily. My fourth goal is to make good money consistently with REI. I stay motivated by doing something everyday towards these goals, whether it is putting up bandit signs, reading books, asking question here on DG, networking with others, sending out letters, and learning how to use the tools available to me. I am determined to reach my goals and everyday I work hard for many hours a day to reach these goals.

Sick and tired of being sick and tired. I understand the feeling. Being tired of the routine and not getting anywhere. Great tips to help the beginner starting out. It is so important to pick one strategy and stick with it. Makes life so much easier. Thanks Mike for you insight.

I have been blessed with great parents and believe its time to give them what they truly deserve. Reading posts and blogs is very helpful in our RE endeavors. Bouncing tips and ideas off of one another, running towards the prize. I have the luxury if living in NYC and use my train commute to read.
And I think probably the most important thing that one needs to do before they begin their journey to financial independence, is to make a determined decision to change. Let nothing get in our way of our vision.

I love the fact that you know your goals by heart and have written them down. Someone once said, "A dream becomes a goal once you have written it down and made it plain."
Staying busy in RE is the only way to make things happen. Dean always says, "If you treat RE like a hobby, your going to get hobby results."
We have to maintain our hunger to become financially free. This is one of the best ways to do. Sharing with other great DG students.
Thanks!!!

I have yet to have kids, but I can only imagine the feeling of being able to give your boys better opportunities in life because of your determined effort in RE. Because you decided to make a change, it will have a ripple effect on the next generation. I'm grateful for my dad, I know your boys are for you. It's all about them. Keep on pushing and striving to be the best.

Another good way to keep motivated is to develop relationships with a small group of people on here.
I have developed VERY strong friendships with 6-8 people that I met on this site. We all live in totally different parts of the country and specialize in different investment tactics. We talk on the phone, email or text, bouncing ideas off one another and keeping each other motivated.
This site is such a blessing in the fact that it is a great place to get info and learn new techniques but even more so in the relationships that are built that will last for lifetimes!

Well I would like to retire myself, but it is not feasible at present. I have to however, thank God that my sons are grown and taking care of themselves. When children are younger you need to spend as much play time with them, because they grow old so quickly. I never regretted those tired evening taking them to the park. They always remembered those times. I remain motivated because I continually set goals that I must achieve. What is the sense of living it there are no goals to meet. This is my time now and I am saying it right now with an attitude LOL. God and me together, what a great team. God Bless.

You said it. This site has been the ultimate networking and business relationship tool around. I met my mentor on this site and a host of others who have become great friends. It is very important to stay in contact with like minded folks.
Two quotes come to mind:

"Tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are."
Dean created a great environment for us to connect with one another. Let's get connected and change this economy one deal at a time.

Doesn't feel good to know that RE is going to allow you to retire? Someone once said, "Life takes on meaning when you become motivated, set goals and charge after them in an unstoppable manner. Your goals are the road maps that guide you and show you what is possible for your life."
I love the attitude. "If God for you, who can be against you?"

Thanks DG family all this motivation makes.me even more motivated than I was already!! Lol my biggest motivation is my parents. My dad had a stroke when I was 13yrs old. when that happened my.mom didn't know what to do and we lost our home to forclosure! Everything went down from their. Both my parents have gone through a lot and all I want is to be able to retire them and give them the life they truly deserve!
I know I can't ever give them life. with my current job.... So i am working hard and learning more and meeting more AMAZING people here on DG.com this properls me to success even faster!! Thanks again DG fam!!!!! (:

yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the "present."
"Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still"
What an amazing story Robert. No matter what has happened in the past, all the struggle and heartache, unthinkable pain and uncertainty, perseverance prevailed.
Being 24 yrs old myself, I believe that is our duty as children to take care of our parents. Dean always says, "Put your oxygen mask on first, then help the person next to you put theirs on." In order for us to bless our parents the way we know they deserve, we must stay focused and get ourselves in that position to do so.
Dean has set up this amazing platform where we can learn from one another.

Every morning I wake up and write down ideas that can move me closer to my goal.
When you understand and know without a shadow of a doubt that real estate is the vehicle to become financially free, their no looking back.

“If you want a thing bad enough to go out and fight for it, to work day and night for it, to give up your time, your peace and your sleep for it…
if all that you dream and scheme is about it, and life seems useless and worthless without it…
if you gladly sweat for it and fret for it and plan for it and lose all your terror of the opposition for it…
if you simply go after that thing you want with all of your capacity, strength and sagacity, faith, hope and confidence and stern pertinacity…
if neither cold, poverty, famine, nor gout, sickness nor pain, of body and brain, can keep you away from the thing that you want…
if dogged and grim you beseech and beset it, with the help of God, you will get it!” ---Les Brown
