ATTENTION LANDLORDS - Is this Legit?

Hello DG folks... I am soon to be a Newbie Landlord with a 3BR 2 ½ B SFR up for lease for 1800/Month plus Utilities... I was contacted by a Broker who only deals with INSURANCE companies... Basically a family loses their Home due to a Fire, Weather, Etc. and they contact their Home Owners Insurance who they contact this Broker to help them relocate to a Temporary Home while their Personal Home gets repaired... This Broker searched Vacancies in the same area and found mine... They are Offering 2800$ a Month plus Utilities for a Minimum of 3 months and then month to month... I will get paid directly from the Insurance Company... Is this legit? Anyone herd of this?

Thanks,
Dan (Mcarlo24)

It is legit

Speak with the realtor for more details. Assume if you're getting $2800, he's getting a nice monthly check from the insurance company as well.

This might be good for you because the realtor can be someone who can get you seasonal/summer rentals as well.

Good luck on it.

Bingo!

Looks like you struck pay dirt!

Yes it is. We were approached last year by an insurance company for the same reason. It didn't go through because they needed a first floor apt and our was on the second. Check it out and good luck...Jan

Just a Follow up!!

Thanks for the responses Karen, Jan and Elixbrown...

I talked to the Broker again and I asked them about the contract and she tells me it is a Temporary Housing contract so I need to find out more about that... She sais it is amendable so I can add the normal Lease info if it is not their... I gave them the go ahead so the next step is to meet the family, probably today...

I will also be talking with the Insurance Company Rep today...

Stay Tuned...

Nice one Dan!

sometimes short term leases at higher rents can be pretty lucrative! especially if you build a relationship with the broker, who can bring you tenants after tenants!

congrats at becoming a landlord!

Great Job

I would just say that you should read the agreement that you sign with the tenants and the broker - also if there is a seperate agreement for the insurance company. - This looks like you have got a good thing goin!

Easy Come, Easy go!

Well... The Insurance Company went to set up the appointment with their Clients to meet me at my property but they declined because they were going to stay with their MOM until futher Notice... So the Insurance Company e-mailed us back and told the broker and Myself the News... In that e-mail I noticed the correct spelling of the last name of the fire Victims and I had the street name of where they live so I figured maybe I can do some Googlein to get contact info for them to let them know more about my Beautiful home... Get this, the woman was recently, in the last 1 1/2 years, Brought up on charges for Armed Robbery!!!! WOW!!! Sure glad this didn't progress any further... Well, I still have 4-5 normal leads for an early January Rental... Keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks,
Dan L

You may have gotten even luckier with losing them than we thought you were with connecting with them!
