Great Property - Finding the facts.

Great Property - Finding the facts.

This is one of the most frustrating things that I have found. I find what seem to be good deals all the time, just being in my own neighborhood and being very aware of things like FSBO signs, overgrown lawns and what seem to be abandoned properties etc.
I go home, I go to the various RE sites, and I type in the property, only to be told there are no matching results?
WHAT?
I just saw the prop. live and in person 5 minutes ago and now I am looking at an aerial view of a 'patch of green nothing'!

There is one fantastic property that I really wanted more information on, it was not on Zillow (empty plot) - I did find it on another site, it is beautiful and listed at two thirds of the original listing price . I actually found it on another RE site, with an entirely different photo though!
So, to set the record straight, I went to my local court house, the property is not in their computer, they pulled out the "big maps' and yet again it looks like an empty plot.
Can anyone explain these 'ghost houses' to me?

Very interesting.

Angela, how new is the building? I understand if it was recently built where it might not be in the photos, but that's really interesting that it is not pulling up in any records. hmmm... I'm curious to see what you find out, and what other DGers have to say.

Interesting I agree

So it's not on the plat maps for that area; can you find out the previous builder's information from the realtor that has the listing? I don't know whether the builders has to record the Lot of land that they plan on subdividing before or after the project is complete. That would be interesting thing too know also.

Angela

Good morning, I had that problem with the zillow and the property didnt show up and also went online to the county and looked up the property and still couldnt find it. So anyway what happened the former owner of the proprty changed over to the new owners. How did they do that ? The old man gave his tenants the 80 acres and the farm house. Luck them !!
Maybe the people never did the building permit to put up the house and that is why it still shows the empty lot. Call the ghost buster to solve this case
lol You have the greatest day as ever Angela !

Thanks,

I'm curious

I'm curious as well, maybe it was just built and that is why it was not on record. Maybe the inside of the building is not even complete yet, it is possible that it was a big project gone unfinished due to lack of $ and now the entire thing is up for sale so the owner can regain some of their losses. You never know. But I'd like to find out more as well, see what info you can pull and keep us posted. Jeremy

Angela,

I have found that some properties are not listed just as when you go to another website such as mapquest and they tell you they can't find the address to map out. Always think of a "Plan B".

This can be contacting the local post office to inquire if there is a forwarding mailing address on file. The mailman in the neighborhood or the neighbors next door will know the story on these hidden homes.

I find that neighbors often "see everything but often times see nothing". Once you approach them and are friendly they may open up with information. Another idea is contact your local treasurer's office and inquire about the address. Chances are the local taxing authority know the owner, the status of the property or at least can tell you where the tax bills are being mailed. I hope this helps. Good luck in finding those hidden gem of a deal. The fun is in the adventure! Believe and Achieve! Smiling - Joe

Angela

This is the part that confuses me. Maybe the house was just built or moved to the site??

How old are their records?

I know that some houses in

I know that some houses in my neighborhood have no records because they were built before they had started keeping records, In the 1920s it was a summer get away for people with money to be on the water. most homes were shacks that eventually the people started adding on to in order to live all year round. I know people that built additions without permits because of the no records. Soooo maybe that is the answer. I agree that you should ask the neighbors or post office delivery person if they know how to get in touch with the owners.

When I first found this

When I first found this property online it came up with a group of SFH in the area I was looking, right price range, etc., etc., had a great picture, MLS # lots of info. which is why I went to look at it in the first place.
The house there looks nothing like the original picture, it is bigger, brand new and almost completed.

I am too busy this week but next week,I will get to the bottom of this little mystery. Smiling

I plan to talk to the guys working on it the next time there are there.

This prop. is close to the edge of town line, I am going to go to the court house in the next town to see if it is listed there.

I also thought I should check the property lines on either side of this one, maybe this area belongs to one of them and the owner is building this to sell? Doesn't explain the picture online and the MLS # though.
