Hi everyone. My name is Jimmy and I used to live in Texas and now call Tennessee home.
I am in my mid 40's, and have been driving a truck over the road for the past twenty three years. I got married young, spent some time in the army, came out and started a family. The job market was terrible back then, so out of a need to feed my family and take care of their needs, I went into trucking.
I tried unsuccessfully for several years to become a real estate investor. I managed to buy a home for my family and we have enjoyed this home since.
I studied Dave Deldotto, Carlton Sheets and others, but just could not put it together.
Recently, I viewed Dean's tv show, did not have a belief immediately in what he was talking about. I then purchased Be A RE Millionaire and his new book Profit from RE right now.
I told me wife that I am once again giving it a chance. She thinks I am crazy and I am. I told her that if I had bought just one or two more homes, I could have some financial security. I then reminded her that for 2o plus years I have missed more holidays with family, kids growing up and now that our kids are working on starting families of their own, I am determined not to miss our Grandbabies growing up.
I am not wealthy, don't have deep pockets, but I have a sense of pride and wanting to get out from behind the wheel and driving profits and wealth for others and begin trucking down my families path to profits and wealth.

Welcome to the family. Nice to see you are giving it another go. Must be hard being away from the family, I can relate to that in my young days always working and never being around.
You picked the right group to be with and that is the truth. Do you have a small PC to use while you are on the road? Possible great way to stay in touch with this site. Good luck to your new life man....Jan
I admire your determination Jimmy. Your road to success in REI has just begun. Congratulations for making the right move. Blessings to all. LA
Everytime you repeat the words "I CAN DO IT" with conviction, you cancel or override your fear and increase your confidence. By repeating this affirmation over and over, you can eventually build your courage and confidence to the point where you are unafraid. -Brian Tracy-
Hey Jimmy, Reggie Peoples from Kansas here. I just want to say that not too many ppl over 35 choose to change careers after so long. I commend you on wanting to break the cycle. Here, it can be done- so make your wife a believer!
Much success-
I deserve success...PERIOD! Reggie Peoples-
Hey Jimmy, sometimes it takes you to get to a point where you say enough is enough & I'm going to do this & change my life. I have told my mentors story a few times on here & he was in the same boat as you following & studying Real Estate Investing & couldn't get off the ground for years, 7 yrs to be exact until he took massive action until it happened. It can be very tough getting started but that is the hardest part. Keep going until & push yourself beyond what you even think your capable of doing.
Think about this:
Most jobs are 8 hours a day, and if you knocked on doors everyday like it was your job saying something like IE:" Hi my name is Jimmy, Where looking to buy a house in this area, do you know anyone who is looking to sell"
Do you know you would be beyond rich if you did just that, like it was a job? but most of us just won't do something like that to get of the ground.
Hope you see my point!

Hi Jimmy,
Congrats on not settling. It gets to a point where I think the great majority of people do just that and never seek to expand and enrich their lives. Some hit that point as early as their 20s, others throw the towel in when they're in their 40s or 50s. Just by taking action you've already accomplished more than so many others. There's just too much life to live to sit back and watch it pass you by.
Don't worry about not having a lot of money to start your business with. I'd be willing to bet the majority of people here are/were in the same boat. The books, along with backup from this site, will give you all you need to make your first deals. If you can afford to add other tools to your arsenal, Dean has some great ones.
Your present job actually offers you some great opportunities. Start studying the areas you're traveling through. Pick up local newspapers and RE mags and throwaways like the PennySaver. You just may have some investments jump into your path during your travels. Make sure to pick them up and not pass them by.
Good luck! If you ever need any questions answered, be sure to post. You can also learn a great deal by reading through the journals of some of the successful students.

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…
It’s about learning to dance in the rain.
The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward. - Amelia Earhart

What part of Tn do you call home. I am here in Clarksville. And just wanted to say that this would work if you are willing to take action.

I understand where you are coming from as when we return from overseas after spending time in the military and non military time I had to find work fast as well to support the family and the like so I also went into trucking to pay the bills and the like and yes I too was not home much either always being on the road to make ends meet. In that time I got into REI also but without a pc with me as it was left at home so the family could get in the internet while I was away so it was hard to check into things while on the road. So I knew the best way was to get a local job driving and that is what I did. I now drive locally putting me home every day so I can spend time on this site getting all the info I can and invest more time into investing. The beginning is tough in all ways but I have started over in my life three times due to the moves we have made back and forth from the u.s to germany and then back to the u.s selling everything we owned. If one can do that start from scratch then there has to be a chance in real estate also. I have been trying this for a year now since I purchased deans books but not until the past three months I have been putting more time in it than ever. The hardest part is the beginning just like anything else you do because you just cannot start off at the top even though that would be easier. Give it you all and get out there and get r done and lets see what us truckers can do with this too.
