I'm Scott. Hello to my new family. Well I am not afraid to work hard to earn the things I want but I am also lazy at times. So with that in mind I am copying some of my 'About Me' here.
I currently live in Waco, Tx. I will be moving to Victoria, Tx soon. March(2010) is my goal month to move. I'm broke, of course, but I have a strong back and I am a hard worker. I am hungry for a better life and that hunger motivates and inspires me to go the distance.
2010 is MY year. 2011 though 2014 are mine also. I own and cherish BARM. I read it once though and am starting on a second time now. I planned it that way. The first reading was just that reading only with no action. A few things about that book: One I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would enjoy reading a book about real estate so much. Yes, I know that is an unfair statement about the book. It is so much more than just a book about real estate. I am not really sure how Dean did it since we have never met before, but I know he wrote Barm with me in mind. He knows me really well for never having met. The book was obviously written for me, to me, and about me. Dean, if you ever read this well nevermind I'll tell you in person once I joined the inner circle. I am doing a bit more than reading it this time. I am highlighting and taking notes, doing all the things that are suggested like writing down goals etc. Studying it like my life depends on it. My new life does actually depend on it doesn't it?
I am working on a plan for my new life, which will include goals for the here and now and also for the next 5 years. I am StudentScott right now and not DGReiScott because until I have invested in real estate twice I am just a student. Investing once would make me an owner, twice would make me a beginning investor.
As I mentioned above I will be moving in a few months. I am going to Tucson for a month or so to help my parents out in about 2 weeks. They are retiring soon, sometime this year, and moving back to Texas. I am going to help them do some things to thier house getting it ready to sell. So with all that in mind my plan is to study and learn over the next few months. Building my confidence and preparing myself to be "DGReiScott" and not just StudentScott. I am taking a little slower approach but based on the big picture of my future not just the right here and now. I am going to arm myself though learning with the power of knowledge over the next 3 months and there after to battle life for the freedom I desire and WILL earn.
I have spent many hours reading and studying here and I would like to thank everyone for eveything you do and to truly express what I mean by that let me say this. If I took no action at all. If I did nothing more than what I have done so far. Just reading Barm, and the hours I have spent reading and studying here with all of you has alredy changed my life for the better.
My goal for today is to complete a rough draft of my daily schedule for January2010. How I will study and learn about my new life as a REI.

I am working on a 1 year set of goals, and a five year set of goals. I will post them here soon. I will also be posting a monthly set of goals at the beginning of each month to help keep me focused and to also help get me to those bigger goals.
I was planning on waiting until the first to post my monthly goals but I am simply way to pumped and excited to not do something now.
Jan and Feb 2010 are my learning and preparation months. I will be traveling a bit and moving in March so I am planing and working based on that.
Jan 2010
1. Goal: Make two hours a day for REI learning
Reason: To empower myself with knowledge, overcome being afraid by
building confidence though the knowledge gained.
Emotion: Studying for two hours a day for every day in the month of Jan
will at the end of the month make me wake up smiling each day
being proud of myself and my small accomplishment.
-One step closer.
2. Goal: Prepare a buyer's list of ten(minumum) buyers with specifics on what
each one is interested in.
Reason: My buyers(investors) will help me buy property and also sell it
once I have it bought. Once I have buyers nothing will hold me
back. I can find the good, great, and even insane deals. I have
the knowledge to know how to find them(its all over this site and
in "the books"). I have and/or can make the time.
Emotion: EMPOWERED!!! Once I have a good buyer list started, either join
me, help me, or get out of the way because there are no limits.
-One step closer.
3. Goal: Start research my target area and pick and start learning the
neighborhoods where I want to invest.
Reason: When I move I want a head start and will already have a focus
area. Getting started is the hard part and this will help me get
started.
Emotion: more prepared, more confident -One step closer
4. Goal: Get some money together to get Profit From Real Estate Right Now,
Think A Little Different In Real Estate, and Totally Fulfilled.
Reason: Arm myself though learning with the power of knowledge
Emotion: confidence, confidence, confidence -One step closer.
That is what I have so far. I may add to this and/or change it but it's a start.

And what a start... most people won't even do that. You took action, congratulations!! The rest will come.

I'm a beginner too and really appreciate what you're doing to change your life. You're young and this is a great time to think completely outside the box. Keep taking those small but consistant steps like Dean mentions in the latest video blog. Before you know it you'll be in a completely different place in your life! That's what I'm looking forward to myself.
Take care,
Michael
PoGeese,and Michael,
I decided I am going to do this. I'm not going to try it out. I'm not going to see if it will work for me etc etc etc. I AM going to do it. My new career is REI. Thinking about it and eventually making that decision made it simply. It might take a month, 6 months, a year of even 5 years it doesnt matter. Think about it. How many poeple go to college for 4 years or more to prepare for a career? This will be my college. So if it takes me 4 years to get to the point where I feel like I have succeeded and I can honestly say I am a REI. Then so be it. I will already be in way better shape then someone graduating with a BA. I will have the knowledge, experience though action, and I get to make money while I do it? WOW!!! Where do I sign up? This the directions my thoughts have been going.
Getting started is the hard part right? We all know that. Once you get the ball rolling, once you are moving foward, once you take ACTION you have already succeeded. So with that in mind I decided to do exactly like Dean says. I started with small tiny steps. I registered here at 'THE" site. WOOHOO!!! I successfully completed that step and then congratulated myself. It may sound like I am being sarcastic but I am totally sincere. I thought about registering and told myself "Self, you can do that" then I did it. I didn't worry about all the other stuff I did just that one small task aka goal. It wasnt hard and anyone can do it but I did it, and I am proud of myself. The whole point is I am training myself how to take one step and how to be excited and proud of that one step. The next thing I did was to start this jornal, well after logging in and reading for hours and hours day after day. That was another step I am proud of, this journal.
So I am taking very small steps but you know what a slow start is still a start, and like you said Pogeese taking these little steps are taking action.
Pogeese, and Michael I need your help. Check on me, on my journal once in a while and help me keep motivated etc. I will do the same for you. We may not be anywhere near each other but we can help each other in so many ways like just checking up on each other.
Anyone else want to join in on this idea and help motivate each other check on each other etc? Post on this journal and let me know. i need all the help I can get, and reading your journal is my pleasure. I love reading about others in thier journals. It is very motivating and by sharing ideas etc we learn together.

I have figured out something I am doing wrong, or at least not right. I need a daily plan. It is so easy to simply read for hours on end here at the sight. That is not really bad I am learning tons but I need to do more.
Although all the reding and studying I have been doing is finally starting to draw a picture for me. So much I want to do and I of course want to do it all today if not sooner. I think maybe I am getting to the point where I understand what is meant by information overload. It's not what i thought it was. It's trying to do to much at once and not getting anything done or very little. I need a daily plan with daily goals of what I will accomplish.
Being a sponge and soaking up all this info(water) is great and has its benefits but the sponge does get full before you realize it and you have to ring it out(do something with the info-ACTION), without the action you just dump the water)info) and haven't accomplished anything. Action makes that info yours and then you will be ready to start sponging again.
My first goal for today is a day plan for today. once I reach that goal I will be ready for other goals for today.

Hi Scott and welcome to the DG family.
What action in a short amount of time. Plue you made some great points about people going to college for 4 years to earn a degree.
You know what, I think education is great. If it is your passion then they should go that route. Me, I enjoy reading about REI. Reading things by Dean Graziosi or some other well known REIs is interesting for me. Which inturn makes it easy to read a ton of books and learning different ways to invest and make money too.
Keep in mind some days will feel more productive than others. Also, others that are new will feel beat up and sometimes ready to give up. With that in mind when you reach that point...or even before that point, visit this site. There are soooooooooo many supportive people here. They give great advice and will alway lift you up. Best of luck to you and your new life in REI!!

You are very motivated and bound for successs.
I wish you the very best of luck and welcome to the group.
I have been thinking. I am not focused enough. I found a weakness I need to fix. I do have a burning desire to make 'this' happen, but that's just it. I have not very clearly defined what 'this' is. I have not defined my purpose.
While thinking along this thought path I made a new decision.
I decided what I want.
Starting right this second I will be on track and stay on track until I succeed in getting what I want no matter how much time is required. I want it and I WILL have it. I am going to burn all bridges behind me so I have no possible way of retreat. This is the only way I can remain in the right state of mind, a white hot burning desire to achieve what I want. I will be persistant. I will not reconize failure. I now have a mission statement that I dwell on and strive for every day. I will achieve my mission.
Mission statement
I will aquire $47 million dollars in the next 25 and a half years. by June 15th, 2035. I will give 25 and a half years of my life dedicated to real estate investing and helping others improve thier lives for this.

Jan 2010
I set some goals for Jan on Dec 28th. So far I have Successfully completed #1(I have spent more than double my goal time per daylearning, etc. I am addicted and having way to much fun, and we can and will actually paid for this? WOW) for the first two days of Jan. WOOOHOO I have also started my buyer's(#2) list and have one qualifeied buyer and his criteria. I also have a list of a few more that I have not quailified yet. I need to have a one on one conversation with them and learn more about some specific criteria. Hell YEAH!!! I have learned a lot about my target areas, like I now know I want to focus one have of the town(and why), and exactly where that half starts and stops(#3). I am getting PFRRN TODAY!!!(#4). I need more goals. This is to easy. I am lazzy and have not been trying hard enough.
Below are those goal I set for Jan Dec 28th.
1. Goal: Make two hours a day for REI learning

When I first started back in the day I had such a hunger for knowledge that I was spending 3 to 4 hours every night just studying, reading posts and watching any dvd on REI that I could find. This does start to burn you out after months and months. You set your goals for a year down the road and that is great. Know when to stand back and take a break. This down market will vanish sometime in the near future, but Dean has strategies for an up market also. There will always be deals to be made, this I am sure of. Good Luck.......Jan
You are doing your thing Scott keep up the good work. You remind me of myself when I just started the world of DG and investing. Somebody pretty much said it before in your journal, but at times somethings will seem a little foggy and others will seem clear as day. Dont be afraid to let the people you meet out in the REI world know that you are a beginner and they will more than likely be willing to give you advice here and there. Look at there advice objectively but never let anyone tell you what you cant do. If you find that you naturally click with someone in the REI world who is a little more advanced than you used them until you can at least crawl or walk on your own in this REI world we are in. And like I said before Never be afraid to ask questions its the only way you will learn besides even the Donald Trumps and the Dean Graziosi's of the world had to start somewhere. These elites have set the bar and now its up to us to set it even higher.
Well we got some things in store when we do make it on the other side of the fence so I will see you at the TOP!
Best Regards,
Shane
"People Build People"
I found my second qualified buyer, and sent him info on two properties. SO my buyer's list is up to 2 now!!!! My first buyer and I have been touch through email a couple of times the last couple of days.
I am currently reading the book 'Think and grow Rich'. It is a 'must read' for all REIs.
I was planing on just learning for the next few months until I move(from Waco to Victoria). I will be spending quiet a bit of Time in Tucson between now and then also. So I was thinking it would be easier to get as prepared as I can for when I move, and get started then. Yes I know and admit those would be limits I put on myself.
Well that is not working. The DG family inspires me and motivates me so much it is hard to NOT take action. So I am buiding my buyer's list and looking on the interent in Tucson for specific types of properties. When I get there next week I will have to many to go look at, take pictures etc. I have 3 now that fit within my specific criteria, and another 10 that are close.

Scott if you want to get ahead, improve your life, and make more money then make a decision. It really is that simple. Just decide you will. Then stick by your decision no matter what. Remind yourself that only you change change your mind, so smile at naysayers and feel sorry for them. They will be back soon as your 'best friends' wanting to know how and what you did to succeed. Make oppurtunities out of obstacles. You will find a way.
Trying 'it' out is not good enough! You try a new drink or a new gizmo. You don't try out a new improved better life. You LIVE that new life. So decide what you want, then make it happen, and live your new life.

Scott, Well I took your advice and started a journal of my own now. One beginning entry so far. is this your main Journal page? I will have to do a "Big" catch-up entry soon. As I have lots going on now. So much to learn and absorbing as much as I can possibly retain in a each day. I have been steadily moving forward. No possibility of turning back, I have invested to much and have to much interest in the business. On my way and building up momentum! See you in the DG forums. Layman T. Scott President of Scott Realty & Rentals,LLC
I very much appreciate all the encouragement, motivation, and kind thoughts shared by my entire DG family and specifically by all those posting to my journal. Thank you for you. You are my inspiration!
Lt,
Yes,This is my Journal. I'm glad your started yours. You made 'the decision'. No one can change it unless you let them.
Shane, You already know I won't let anyone get in my way. We are going fishing togther eventually.
Jan, Thank you. It doesn't seem like it is even posible for me to get burned out, but I know I can. When/if that time comes I'm going fishing. Just cause I will be passing out my business cards to any other fisherpersons I see and also talking and thinking about RE doesn't mean it's not a break....grin.
Sandra, I like how you put that. "Dreams and goals are triggers for action." My plan is to keep dreaming bigger and better dreams and those dreams will help me set specific goals that will direct me and make those dreams reality.
Ben, Thank you. I will stay motivated for many reasons, and I know my DG family won't let me lose my motivation.
Earl, I do plan to stay in touch with our DG family here at dg.com. I will miss a day now and then but I will miss 'yawl' when I do and I know together we can accomplish whatever we set our 'mind' to.
Fred, I am moving foward. Sometimes I am slower and sometimes faster, but I won't let myself stop. i am moving foward. I fell like I owe it to my DG family. All of you work so hard to help the rest of us that I have to do my part.
I have not started the success academy yet. Rereading my journal I reliezed that I implied that I did enroll. I will be joining the first week in Feb. I have to get some money together and also I want to be a little closer to moving first. I want to really focus on my new home town, when I do get started. It will help me in more ways than one.
Jeremy, Thank you for the vote of confidence. I don't feel like I am building my buyer's list that fast, though. I am not really in a hurry, but it seems rather slow to me. I want a good list of quality buyers, and that is what I am working on. I have a good 25 years or more of my working life left. So if it takes me a year or longer to get a good buyer's list going than so be it. I am working on building good long term relationships. I also look foward to when I will be on other's buyer's lists.
Michael, You and me both. You and I need to help each other get to the point where we will be helping others. Think 'master mind' group.
POgeese, You are so right. It is about a lot more than making money. It is about freedom in so many ways. It does change a person and is already changing me. Our DG family is a godsend for me. I am blessed in so many ways. It is simply not possible for me to do anything but succeed now.

You certainly picked the right time to join DG since as you may or may not have heard...2010 is the year of the DG Investor!!
I started my journey last September after having moved from MA to NC and spent the fall laying the foundation for my REI success. I have seen ups and I have seen some downs and I have gotten info overload and I have had REI triumphs. But I have not QUIT and I have taken some sort of ACTION each and every day.
I would recommend you find any local REI group you can. Try Googling it (that's what I did) That has been one of the best networking routes I've found and it also gives you a face-to-face forum to ask questions, make contacts, and potentially make deals!
Good luck...keep doing what you're doing and you WILL succeed!

Sandra,
When is the deasline for my first deal? That's a good question. I have not acted yet. Well, besides the steps I am taking to learn as much as I can. I have also found a few buyers, a REA in my target area that has some investing experience, and narrowed down my target area somewhat. I also ordered the new book and it better be here by Wed I am already tired or waiting.
The reason I haven't actually started is because I am in Tucson, Az at the moment. I live in Waco, Tx, and I am moving to Victoria Tx(3 hours south from Waco) right after I get back. I thought about my situation and decided i did want to get started until I could dedicate myself.
So I will actually get started(hit the ground running) in late March. I set a June 15th deadline on Dec 28th, but since then I realize if I only have my first deal completed by then and not at least 3 then something is wrong. So with that in mind I will have at least my first deal done by June 15th(acceptable) but expect to have at least 3(favorable).
I don't want to do real work anymore so I am simply going to be a full time REI starting in June. I know it makes me look and feel like a slacker taking six months to get there but I don't want to rush myself.
1.5 mil from REI by the end of 2014 -I know I know but I am not giving up my fishing time. I'll double it for the next 5 years(3 mil between 2014 and 2019).

Met with another investor today. He showed me a vacant house of his that he is rehabbing and plans to rent and hold. He has been a REI on the side as a hobby for years. He loves his career and with his REI hobby his retirement is secure.
I will be visiting with him more while I am here in Tucson and learn all I can from him.
I expect YTYREP to arrive later today. It may not be here until tomorrow or Fri but I am hoping. I will be busy all day and won't be home until this evening anyway. I still want it here here yesturday and last week would be better....grin

Go go go Scott!!! Stay Motivated. LA
Everytime you repeat the words "I CAN DO IT" with conviction, you cancel or override your fear and increase your confidence. By repeating this affirmation over and over, you can eventually build your courage and confidence to the point where you are unafraid. -Brian Tracy-
Wow Scott lol thanks for putting up on that list... it's weird lol I don't feel I should be there, I'm just like you haha.
It sounds like your so dedicated, incredible... Organized.
Which inspired me to start my organization plans today while I'm at work. I was reading in Revolution Book and wow, and then seeing your just pushed me over the edge... there is no way I'm not planning my organization when I get to work...
Thanks again for the inspiration!

Allow your fear to gently pass. Then genuinely ask yourself,
“What needs to be done?”
It has been over a week since I ordered it. Dg staff "yawl' need to get the lead out!!! If it's not here Monday I WILL.....well I may call you less than positive names but that's about all I guess. grin. I know I know I am just being impatient. Knowing that doesn't help any at all.
Cathy aka Cmloose tag your it.
John, Me? Organized? hahahahahaha That's funny. Seriously though I am going to be organized soon. I am working on it. One thing I have learned is writing something down has a certain power. Don't ask me to explain it. It just does.
Write down what is in your head, what you are thinking, your goals, your complaints, your wants and needs, and life will start working better for you.
Here is a trick for you. Write down something you want(or want to achieve). Doesn't matter how big, small, important, or unimportant. Just write it down. Then read it OUT LOUD every day until you get it. I am not going to exaplain aything else about that idea. Just do it if you want to find out more.
Thank you, LA Motivation does help. I don't have a choice anymore. As I mentioned early on in my journal I made "that' decision. It will happen. I kinow it and nothing can stop me except for me. The easy way is to surround myself with like minded people that will encourage me and help me get there. That is the main reason I log in here daily. Some of you may know but I bet the majority don't realize how much they help others just by sharing, encoraging etc. Thank you for you, LA.
Suzi, Thank you for the big smile, and encouragement, ideas, etc. I am moving one step closer one step at a time. I will not quit. I will follow your example and allow myself to do things like get info overload and even get discouraged but I will not let myself quit. I made that decision so now quiting is simply not possible for me anymore.
I do very much appreciate all of you, all of my DG family, the words of encouragement, ideas, etc. Please, do continue posting a line or two to my journal now and then. I need all the help I can get. I will do my best to help all of you however I may also.
I am still reading Barm for the second time. I have not been reading much. It's not that I am not enjoying it. I am, in fact it seems like a different book. I am getting so much more out of it the second time around. I am back to work now and I have been lazy. I come home tired, jump online check the latest and greatest here, then my email, then I read/study BARM until I can't keep my eyes open any longer. I don't mean that as an excuse just the truth. I have spent less time here also with my DG family. I have been here everyday though, and will continue doing so.
