THEY brought my motivation down....

THEY brought my motivation down....

Hey dg fam. ok so today one of my close friends and i have lunch, we are talking about regular stuff then he brings up what im doing...REI. He starts telling me that he dont think its a good idea. Because his boss wich ownes 4 porperties had said that what im doing doesnt work and you need money to buy RE. He also said that his uncle and his girl friends dad wich are both realtors laughed when he told them what i was doing );

After him telling me that i felt horrible... i felt like they where right and i should not do this... But i thought to my self.. i would be giving up on my dreams! if i just quit! We only live once so im going to make this happen!! and show them i can do this!!

His boss is wealthy but hes wealthy because of his Fencing company not because of real estate. Like Dean ones said if i where to need help with fences then i should take his advice. lol but not take any REI advice from people who are not qualified to give me any!!

Have any of you guys ever been discouraged or dropped down by someone close to you? if so how did you get over it?

Hang in there

You may have to change friends or prove them wrong and that may not change there minds, its called tough love but if we want to grow we have to get into fertile soil and you be glad you did, wishing you the very best and you can do this, Jim

Misery Loves Company!!

Did you ever hear that phrase? Don't ever let anyone bring you down! You are the only one that can control how you feel and how far you want your real estate investing to go! Only YOU!!! Forget them, and moving forward only hang out with i dividuals that are positive and successful!

FUEL TO THE FIRE!

This is the best way to channel that negativity.

I got start nearly 2 years ago right out of college, no money and no credit. EVERYONE told me I should get a real job.

When someone tells you, you cannot do something, i said, "WATCH ME!"

But I didn't say it out loud...yet... I used their negativity as fuel to my fire, my burning desire to succeed. So I went out guns a blazing. 1. Because i wanted a better life for myself and my family, but 2. SO I COULD PROVE EVERYONE WRONG !

Dont take advice from people who are less successful than you are in an area.

17 deals later, I still have people telling me that I cant be successful in REI and that I cant do the types of deals I have done... Ignorance my friend... People dont know what they dont know, if they did they would be successful in REI !

Keb64 & sbrooks6 well said!!

Robert

I totally agree with what so many here have said. If you want to be successful, you have to have positive people around you.

I don't know if you are familiar with the Law of Attraction. It is a natural law of the Universe, just like the Law of Gravity. In the Law of Attraction, you attract what you send out. If you are sending out positive, you attract positive and vice versa.

Life is not easy. You must make choices that are not always easy. Sometimes, unfortunately, that will have to apply to who we keep as our friends.

When you feel yourself starting to have doubts, JERK yourself up!!! Instead, think how amazing it is that you are starting to do this at the age you are! Think of how lucky you are that you found this site and this group of people who care and will help you be successful! Think of how wonderful that you live in a country where this type of thing is possible!

I am so impressed with what you have done this far. Remember your WHY.

Keep your chin up. We believe in you.

Karen

Hi Robert,

I agree with everyone's viewpoint on NOT letting the naysayers WIN on this.

As newbies / beginning investors, we need ALL the tools that we can get (Dean teaches these in his books, videos, seminars). Also we need encouragement, because THIS takes a lot of work! If we do not get the kind of moral support that we need as we start this REI journey, from our loved ones or friends, then the journey gets harder and self-doubt surfaces.

Shielding ourselves from the negativities is key in surviving this until we get stronger (by getting more knowledgeable about REI).

It's helpful to have and make NEW friends, Dean talks about "Reason, Season & Lifetime" people that we have in our lives - as we go into REI, it just follows that we also need to make new friends and build new relationships, positive ones, in this new arena that we are now a part of.

What I personally do when my motivation dwindles down is I go to this website and read about success stories (I click the "What's New" button on the left, and I always find something positive that I could draw encouragement from. (if I don't get sidetracked by spam! LOL!)

Next, I go to my to REI do list, and just keep on doing and putting action into the goals that I have set for myself, whether I feel encouraged or discouraged, I know it's got to be done, so I do it anyway Smiling

Good things WILL happen for all of us here, just don't quit! Smiling

The tide WILL turn! Happy investing and stay inspired!

Cris

Ask Anybody...

on the street. They will tell you this is a "bad time to be in real estate". Why? Because they don't know that this is the best time in history to be in real estate as an investor. That's why! They listen to the media and everyone else and they know that properties aren't worth half what they were 2 years ago, but they don't know what you know!!! Knowledge is power. Learn all you can and show all those naysayers that YOU know what you're doing whether they do or not! Keep on keeping on!

You can do a couple of things

1) Don't hang around negative people
2) keep things close to the vest until you do some deals and then you can tell them it does work, because that is what you do.

Don't be too discouraged. Agents will tell you all the time negative things, but this has been discussed many times over. Just let it slide off and do what you are doing already and that is coming back here to get re-energized! Best Wishes!!

Do the opposite of what everyone else is doing.

Don't listen to people who tell you this or that does not work. Have they tried to do whatever it is? There is a saying "what someone else thinks is none of my business". Personally I do not tell just anyone what I am doing especially if I know in advance the response that I will likely get. Just continue to follow Dean and your own dreams. You have to have the desire and the conviction that this is what you want and that you will make it happen no matter what. Stay close to the DG family, work hard at it and God's speed to you. Best of luck. I believe it will work.

thank you very much Karen!

Thanks for Your post Karen!i have heard of the "law of attraction" I am VERY grateful to live in this country and to have our DG family here for me. I feel blessed that i found this group of amazing people at my age!

CONFUSED

You know, the funny thing about finding what hold you back is 100% self. My issue with self is Creativity. Break walls I need to brake but I do not know how to get through them. I find deals but do not know what to do with them once I get them.

Turn all those naysayers into leads!

Act like you believe their BS, then follow up with, "If you ever want to sell those properties, or if someone you know CAN'T get their property sold, would you give me a call?"

It's called RE Investing for a reason. The people around you won't understand it, and the majority of those who got wealthy from it won't know you personally or live near you. The salespeople think they know everything about real estate, and no one will ever make more money from it than they do. WRONG! Who made more money? The NY stock traders working the bullpens, or the experts calling in their orders to buy and sell? Exactly. Know anyone who got wealthy in the stock market? I don't personally, but I know there are millions who have by doing it right, and millions more who lost everything by doing it wrong.

All that being said, you're gonna have to meet new people to make this work. As you "work" this stuff, you'll meet even MORE people. As you succeed at this stuff, the people you spend your time with and money on will change dramatically. The only way this wouldn't happen would be if everyone you knew had been super-successful REI's, and you're the last one to jump onto their bandwagon. I've yet to hear of anyone who had this type of background.

You have to stay away from people who say you can't do it. Especially if there's a chance you might believe them. Also, make sure to be grateful, humble, and friendly to the people you meet "on the way up." It will help keep you from heading "on the way down." Hope this helps... Laughing out loud

You know, NOW, you have NEW friends here - everyone on this thread, you can now consider your new REI friends! Smiling

I want to not just "shield myself" but "empower myself with REI knowledge". I am "devouring" the "Dean packet" that I received this week when I attended the free event (for those who join and will attend the 3 day workshop, they gave out a home course, and my goal is to finish watching all the CDs this weekend, and finish all the workbooks before the workshop next week). Today, I carved out this day for REI work, and I spent a total of 13 hours at it - driving around to inspect 8 properties that I will put offers on. I found 2 extra properties (which I didn't expect, they were both FSBOs). Smiling

Checklists work!! (It's "unemotional" stuff I need to do, whether or not I feel good, I'VE GOT TO DO them because I set those goals for me! Smiling )

Another tip is always have with you handy the 7 levels deep paper that you've filled out. No amount of hurtful words from others can top that. (I think I had to pull that sheet about two weeks ago when things got really hard and disappointing for me and I felt very alone and discouraged, as I was juggling too much stuff and trying very hard to put plans into action. They say here, and in the books, "TAKE ACTION", so as a newbie (who is still at it), I would like to share and add to that, "TAKE ACTION AND BE PREPARED BECAUSE IT IS HARD! IT TAKES A LOT OF WORK!!" Smiling

Good luck Robert, I think you get the drift -- it's a hiccup! Smiling

Happy investing, stay inspired!

Matt, Ouch! Thanks for sharing that! (I actually heard the EXACT same line from a close friend. He even added "it's not in my personality because RE is "cut-throat" competitive, and I don't have what it takes to survive in such an environment."

Super ouch! Smiling

We will see. Smiling

Hey Robert,
so your friend knows, based on the experience his boss is having with his four properties, that Real Estate investing doesn't work. That makes me think you might have a motivated seller to talk to. After all, it is our calling to help people to get rid of houses that they are not happy with. Go check them out and make offers.
Always look for the positive aspect in everything that comes at you!
Good luck to you!

Thomas,

This is what we can call "finding the seed of triumph in every adversity!" You are right!

Robert,

Thomas is RIGHT ON! They could be motivated sellers soon, with their current "mindset"! Smiling

Cris

Ok Rob,

if having Matt writing on your thread is not enough motivation for you to get out and make it happen, then I don't know what is!!!

Follow DG's book 30 days to cash in RE, step by step, and you will succeed! there may be some steps that will require you to step out of your comfort zone, but once you start doing them over and over, things will get easier, and the deals will start rolling in...

stay focused on your goals, write them down and post them where you can see them every day... and don't let anyone distract you from those goals!

Naysayers

are a part of this journey. My biggest naysayer is my husband, and I've been battling it since I started. He is skeptical and makes it known that he fully expects complete failure from me at all times. But you know what, that's fine. And, yes, I do 'fail', but guess what? I may fail a lot, but from those failures I've learned a great deal, and have had many successes.

It is TOUGH to have the constant naysayer criticism and put downs; but I've already accomplished SO much; even if I don't get credit for any of it. I know that I've made great strides. So, what do I do? Sometimes it can really get me down; but I don't let it get me down for more than a short while. Then I brush it off, and get back up with a vengeance to prove I can and will do this.

Know your why, and never take your focus off of it. It will get you through everything and it will allow no one to steal your dreams. If you haven't done the 7 levels deep, do it now; its here: http://www.deangraziosi.com/emd/videm/7levels

Also, one of the MOST overlooked book of Dean's is all about mindset and preparing yourself for success. Its Dean's best book in my opinion (and I love them all) but this one just REALLY hit me! You can read more about this book here: http://www.deangraziosi.com/real-estate-forums/totally-fulfilled/72344/d... but it is Totally Fulfilled. Many people overlook this book because it is not necessarily geared towards REI, but it has everything to do with overcoming the obstacles that stand in our way; including naysayers!

Never give up, it is CERTAIN we will SUCCEED!
