It's time! You better be putting yourself in those uncomfortable situations!

As I travel and meet people all across the USA, I am often asked what is the secret to being successful with this REI investing thing? Many DG students have told me how hard they are willing to work or how bad they want this. I remember a few months back I was a speaker at a large group of about 300 students in LA.

I could see the excitement in their eyes. I could feel the enregy and passion for REI in the room. I took the time and spoke with so many people that evening and almost all students asked the same question about how to get that first deal done or how to become successful in real estate.

Well, everyone here is the secret you need to follow. It is not magical or mystical, anyone can do this. You do not need the powers of the man of steel!

The power is within you to be able to put yourself into uncomfortable situations!

Now, I did not say unsafe situations where you are running for your car dodging bullets!

Are you uncomfortable calling buyers?

Are you uncomfortable with putting out bandit signs?

Are you uncomfortable making aggressive offers?

Are you uncomfortable calculating repairs?

Are you uncomfortable networking face to face?

Are you uncomfortable with your confidence?

Are you uncomfortable with your REI knowledge base?

Are you uncomfortable calling motivated sellers?

Are you uncomfortable with asking for help?

STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP!

It's time! You need to put yourself in that uncomfortable situation! As you pick up that 500 pound phone to make a call, what is the worst that can happen? Will Jason or Freddy Krueger grab you through that phone? Of course not! So, stop being afraid.

What ever your discomfort might be, you need to work on over coming that. You may need to go to your local video store or Redbox and rent a movie like Rocky. Watch the movie and then start making calls or taking action. You can always have the Rocky theme song softly playing in the background. A little discomfort today can lead to a comfortable tomorrow!

it's about MINDSET!

Thanks for posting this! After attending one of Dean's Live 3-day workshops, the BIGGEST thing that has impacted me from that has been the importance of MINDSET! I hadn't realized how POWERFUL and CRUCIAL that was to moving forward! I used to be so scared of picking up the phone and making a call! I would hide behind only email and wondered why I couldn't get deals to go through! This time around, I am noticing that as my mind is focused on what it needs to, I approach any and every task as "why not!" I am no longer scared of talking on the phone, etc and am finding that I naturally am gaining more confidence as I talk more and more and things flow much better!

I am scheduled to look at 5 houses today with direct home owners, planning on getting them under contract!

You just have to GO FOR IT! Because the way I see it, I have nothing to lose! What I've been doing until now has gotten me these results, so if I want something BETTER, I have to DO SOMETHING DIFFERENTLY!! I am the one that can change the outcome!! Not acting based on emotion is key! Just because it FEELS uncomfortable or scary, doesn't mean I can't do it! ACTING IN SPITE of that feeling of fear, is exactly what fuels me and raises my confidence as I come out on the other side unharmed!

You are right!!!!! That phone was about 450-500 lbs but I did a few push ups and some dumb bell curls and just went for it!!! Now we have 2 big hitters in our buyer bucket and we are out pounding the pavement in an effort to lock some homes under contract to flip and make some $$$!!!! Keep on posting Joe, your words help keep us steadily walking/running on line!!!!!

So true! After attending one of Dean's live training workshops I realize more than EVER in my life how crucial MINDSET is! If your mind is focused on what your mission is, you will ACT on it regardless of how uncomfortable you may feel because it is something perhaps new to you. I learned from one of the mentors that if you feel scared to do something (call an agent, place an offer, place an ad, etc) it's good! it's normal! DO IT ANYWAY! As you do, you face your fear and realize that the 'worst' that could happen, was really not worth getting scared about and your confidence grows!

Comfort zone boundry exceeded!

Hi Joe,

Thanks for all you do on this site. So much of what you say is accurate, and for me the mindset has been one of the most difficult to overcome - but I'm getting there. I freely admit that there are things I've let one of my partners (and sons) handle because I'm scared to do them. Today we closed our first contract and will get our first payday at the end of the month! This buyer also gave us a verbal committment on the other two houses we are processing contracts on. And guess what? All we did was what our Boots On The Ground coaches said. To be honest we haven't gotten all we've been told to do done, but we're getting there! One of those coaches was you Joe! So thank you, thank you, thank you!

getting out of the comfort zone

Hello Joe and Stacey,
You are right noting most people experience fear to start implementing the strategies taught in DG's real estate educational tools. This has been the case with three people (including myself) since we attended the first seminar.

I come from a long line of impulsive family members so I have been ready to jump, run, and GO! since I heard and spent the money, but for some reasons dawdled.
Now I am up and in the race, tagging my relay members as well.

Get Uncomfortable!!!

This is extremely true!!! If we are not happy with our situation in life we have to change and that usually means getting out of our comfort zone. This was probably one of the hardest things to do when I first started. The biggest hurdle I had to overcome was my lack of knowledge. I felt very insecure and nervous about not being able to answer peoples questions. However, I quickly realized that the knowledge was probably one of the easiest things to come by. In fact, the best way to get knowledge is by doing.

So just like Mr. Indiana said…get uncomfortable and go do something productive!!!
