get it? MIND-SET! You have to SET in your MIND how and what it is that will make you succeed. How do you see yourself? How do you feel? What is it that will make you feel that you've achieved success? Can you see it? Can you touch it? Can you smell it?
If not, then it's just a wish! A wish that will most likely never come true!
In order to get your MIND-SET, you have to believe in yourself with all your heart and soul. You have to keep repeating to yourself what it is that you want to accomplish. Whisper it to yourself every night before you go to sleep. Say it to yourself out loud every morning when you wake up. Think about it several times during the day. Make those thoughts part of your daily life! This will make your sub-conscious make it happen for you!
All our fears, our beliefs of lack of success are just thoughts that were SET in our MINDS while growing up; if we grew up with lack of money, we were subconsciously conditioned to think that we are destined to be poor; if we grew up with lack of love, we were subconsciously conditioned to think that we'll never be loved; you have to get rid of all those negative thoughts! If not, no matter how much action you take, or how much knowledge you acquire, your subconscious belief of 'lack of success' will keep pulling you back, and keep you from achieving success.
There are several ways to change your beliefs, and we all have the power to do so.
1. Surround yourself with successful people who have a positive mind (you are already doing this by being on this site or on the IE site); listen to DG's Weekly Wisdoms, read threads about investors doing deals, etc., attend the chats on IE; talk to a Life Coach, if you can afford it)
2. Read books that will help you get in the right MIND SET; you can check them out at libraries, borrow them, or buy them cheaply at amazon, etc. Some of my favorite ones are "Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, "Think Yourself to Health, Wealth, and Happiness" by Joseph Murphy, "Awaken the Giant Within" by Tony Robbins, and of course "Totally Fulfilled" by DG.
3. Meditation; don't under-estimate the power of meditation. If you make it a habit, and meditate every day, just for 15 minutes, you won't believe the impact it will have on your MIND SET.
If you're wondering why I'm writing this post, it's because 3 years ago, I didn't believe in myself either. I was in the same place where many of you are in now. But... for the last three years, I've been watching the Weekly Wisdoms every week, taking notes of what DG and Matt or other guests would say. For the last three years I've been networking with like-minded people by attending seminars like the Edge; for the last three years, I've been brainstorming once a week with my dear friend Karen; for the last three years I've been reading posts on DG from amazing investors like Michael M., Gary C. who are always posting about their deals and how they did them, and incredible coaches like Dallin, Cory, Randy, sharing their golden nuggets.
And since then, I have done many deals, and have acquired more than a dozen rental properties (in another State that I had never been to!). Was I scared? Absolutely! but the fear faded away little by little... I don't even remember when or exactly how; but I do know that my MIND is now SET for success only; there is no room in my mind for failure or negative thoughts. I'm always learning, always doing rei, always taking action, but most importantly, I'm always, always, whispering to myself my goals that I want to achieve, with such belief that they are a reality about to happen... they are SET in my MIND.
So, if you've been working really hard trying to get that first deal for a while, and it's just not happening, even though you're doing all the steps that DG and Matt have shown us, or you joined the Success Academy, and are doing all the assignments, try focusing on your MIND SET instead. Re-condition your subconscious to believe in you! Once you truly believe in you, and with all the knowledge that you've acquired, the deals will start happening...
Wishing everyone who reads this post a successful MIND SET and a successful life
Val

This is a great post Val. Everything stops and starts in the mind set. I have struggled for years to change things. And it all comes down to mind set. What the mind is SET on it will accomplish. If you think you can, you will. If you think you can't, you won't. Thanks for the inspiration Val.
You said it all! MINDSET is THE BIGGEST part in achieving your dreams and goals. Thank you for sharing your story its inspiring for us all!! Look forward to seeing you at the gym in the mornings at the EDGE again this year!

I am a Professional Real Estate Investor! And I see a whole army of my countrymen, here in defiance of the J.O.B. You've come to fight as free men/women... and free men/women you are! What will you do for that freedom?? Will you fight?!! Lets fight for it together!!!!
So well said Val, good stuff, encouraging to hear your story, love it. I have been struggling lately to minimize hanging around people who do not share my desire to be successful or are a distraction.
I will conquer this and have been on the coaching calls, just yesterday for the one on mindset, in the am, it was amazing and this past yr up until now have been listening to motivational speakers like Tony Robbins, Eric Thomas the hip hop preacher on Youtube & of course have been immersing myself in the educ on IE, man has it helped soooo much. Working on deal #4 like I had told you before and I will have it soon, just made 6 offers in KC Kansas & onward & upward. I will see you guys in the gym too, Thom, before the Edge!
See you there. Thanks again Val for posting this.

I'm humbled that my post has given you some inspiration to continue your journey in rei; if you haven't attended the Edge events, you can watch the replays on the IE; I recommend that you watch Chad Merrihew, a youth pastor in Southern Cali who has been very successful in rei, which allows him to do what he loves the most, being a youth pastor. He is an incredible human being and such an inspiration to many of us!
I also recommend you read the books from Joseph Murphy, who was a minister, and wrote several books on the power of your subconscious mind.
You may want to start a journal on this site; it will help you stay focused and accountable; it helped me get started...
Cheers!

yes, we need to have the knowledge, have the mindset, and take action in order to accomplish any success in our lives. We all have been getting the knowledge from DG (trainings, weeklies, coaching, books, webinars, websites, etc); and we can take action by copying and repeating what's already been done; however, our mindset, nobody can do that for us; it doesn't matter if everyone encourages a person to do something; if that person doesn't believe in himself/herself, he/she will never be successful. It has to come within. I believe that when you gain knowledge, it helps boost your confidence, and this in turn will help you change your mindset.
I know you have been working hard, and I'm sure you will be getting your first deal soon, but don't think of the deal as your success; every step that you've taken is a goal in itself; each one is an accomplishment, and you have to feel good about all those accomplishments that you have achieved thus far!
Cheers,
Val

I like what henry ford got credit for saying, "whether you think you can or you think you can't you're right". amazing how having all the knowledge doesn't guarantee any results. I can't tell you the number of people with masters degrees that have served me food and drink. action equals results, but mindset is paramount.
whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right.- Henry Ford
keep moving forward, rob
I love that quote from Ford too! so true! It's amazing what our mindset can and will do for us!
Will we see you at the Edge again this year?

I'd like to challenge other experienced investors to share their personal methods of being up and positive as an investor. I'll be happy to embarrass myself first. I have a little song I sing to myself when I feel like I need a pick me up. It goes like this:
It's a great day to be an investor
It's the best thing I know
It's a great day to be an investor
Everywhere I go
Goodbye No and Never
Goodbye Doubt and Fear
It's a great day to be an investor
And be of good Cheer!
And thanks to Valerie for this post string, and for your kind reference to me. You're the greatest!

Hi Val,
We have communicated in the past. I just read your post from Feb. 2014. Very inspiring. I am putting your suggestions to the test daily. Am anticipating positive results. I am at a point in my life to take action, if I stumble help is nearby. I worked for small business about 30 years ago. The manager gave this advice regarding having to terminate or any other unpleasant task toward an employee, "don't put it off, don't dream about it, be sure you're right and just do it". If something needs to be done, Just do it. Don't let it fester. Be confident, strong and deliberate, but avoid offending anyone if possible.
