spouse or partner does not approve ? WE CAN HELP

have you found that you want and need to take your life to a higher level ?

are you learning real estate and deans strategies and find it hard to study or read or post without hiding your books or learning where no one will see you??

do u find it stressful to be on this rei journey by yourself without your partners approval or help or feedback or support??

WELL LET ME TELL YOU this post is where we can answer these questions and share anwsers to all dgers that are in or have been in these situations.I have learned thruogh talking to many people that our spouses or friends or family think we r crazy to be investing in this market.we r crazy to be listening to this dean graziosi guy.we r going to get scammed,we r going to lose money. welllll we know different and r proving them wrong. my idea of this post is to try and help other dg investors through or over the top of this obstacle of the others not supporting us in our quest to make a brighter future for us AND OUR FAMILY.

please let me know here how this may effect you, your circumstance, how u feel, how you may have overcome this bump in the road and any suggestions that you have in dealing with this......

Your mates

don't have to agree with everything you do. They really don't have to support you if they chose not to. That's their choice.

Like I said before, when you cash those checks and they see how happy and positive your disposition is, that is the sweetest form of "I told you so" you could possibly have.

I agree with Elix. Sometimes

I agree with Elix. Sometimes a partner or family member are just scared for you and dont want to see you get burned, Its up to you to take action and to prove to them its all good.
Sorry we never rescheduled to meet Elix, I like your straight up personality. You seem to have a ton of wisdom in REI.
GOOD LUCK
Richie.

lol

its all good, you're only a borough away.

At some point you just give a *&^%$. You'll grow to resent your partner if you give up on something that you love and will forever feel cheated and live life in a "if only..." stage.

Do it without with or without them. If they come aboard fine. If not, ok. Stressing out is not condusive with being in RE and trying to be successful at it

great advice elix !!

one would def feel cheated as you say,if you didnt give it a try .when asked at there final day someone once said what would you do different?? they replied with sadness all their dreams and aspirations of investing in real estate!!

Thank you for correct spelling.

I wish you luck in all of your future transactions. The thing that I like from investing in Real Estate is that you now have choices. To stay at a job or leave it. I have not made any money yet. I will have to read the books that Deans's company sent me: Profit from Real Estate Right Now and Your Town Your Real Estate Profits to gain some techniques that will be helpful. It always helps to have someone guide you in the beginning. I am totally in the dark about LLC's and other things. Looks like it is about time to stop writing and start learning. Good luck in your law enforcement career.

We are in to win but confued.

Me and my wife are both in to win in realestate investing "but" she stuck being mentored by one group in our town and I am all about the DG family affair and there knowledge on a broad base of investing. She's into finding buyers and matching them up with investor with home for sale. I'm into finding property to buy under subject to and assignment. It all works out because she has the buyer and I the houses to sell. It's good to hear other member deal with this issue as well. This is a good subject to talk about.

I don't know who your post was ment for but you don't need a LLC untill you buy and hold for the most part. Most investor have a LLC for asset protection and taxes.

Yeah, Common Problem...

I have a similar story to a lot of the ones that have posted on this topic. I was raised by a single mother that had a bit of an entrepreneurial spirit. She looked for various ways to work from home out of necessity. She bumped into a few scams along the way, but she also found a few things that really worked. She did SMC catalog sales and home parties back in the eighties (way before they cut their product line and started advertising their program on infomercials.) She had a creative influence on me.

My husband comes from a slightly different background. When we first got married, he was puzzled by my subscription to Entrepreneur magazine. I explained to him that I always had the desire to start my own vending business, and I would look at the magazines from time to time to get start-up ideas. He thought I was nuts at first, but he thought it was a great idea the next time he was looking for work.

We have a son now. Whenever we need fast cash, I sell off our stuff on eBay & Craigslist. My husband even asked me to sell off our fence on Craigslist. (That was an easy 250 bucks!) He used to think it was crazy to use those sites, because there were too many people on there already.

A couple of years ago, I got involved with a company that I lost a few hundred dollars with. When my husband first heard about it, he thought it was a scam. It wasn't. I just don't think that the president of that company was as commited as he needed to be to help his people succeed. My husband asked me to quit that one before I really got started. It was for the best though.
I learned from that experience that I need to do my research on my own, try something out, and then show my husband the results when I can see that it's working.

I haven't told my husband about Dean's books yet. I'm almost done with Your Town, Your Real Estate Profits. After that, I'm going to read Profit in Real Estate Right Now. From what I've learned from Dean so far, I know that this will be a good thing for our family. My husband will be on board as soon as he sees for himself what I'm doing. I know he feels the same way I do about real estate. It just takes him a while to figure out what he thinks about things. Eye-wink

One time we were trying to figure out what to do with a light fixture we didn't like. He kinda wanted to replace the whole thing. I thought it would be beautiful if we just replaced the glass shades. He wasn't so sure what I was picturing, but he went to the store and came back with the new shades. After he swapped out the shades, he stood back and said: "You were right. I just couldn't see your vision..."

I'm sure he won't be able to see my REI vision at the moment either. But with his construction and handyman experience, plus his desire to work with me and have more time for the most important things, I'm certain he'll see my vision as soon as I have more to show him.

My current situation

My wife read one of those dave ramsey books or whoever he is and in it he tells how he lost so much money in RE... my wife wants me to read his books and is getting angry that I haven't. I told her everything you told me about his program is common sense except to paying off the lowest balance CC first, which does make sense if you use all of that money left over to go after the next...

She is behind... well hasn't told she's not and last year we actually wrote off a few dinners out because we devoted about 15-20 minutes to talk about the business. Anyway, she seems to be behind me, but also refuses to read dean's books that I have. I told her I'd just like her to know what I'm doing. Meanwhile she wants to cut off the Cable and phones and go to eating mack and cheese with hotdogs for the next 3 years while we pay off our CC bills thanks to that dumb ramsey book. I keep telling her the faster I can get rolling with this RE business we could be out of debt in less than a year and you can stay home with our newborn, further reducing our costs due to no daycare needed...

She's coming around, especially since she sees how good I am on the phone with buyers and leads (although the ones I've gotten haven't gone anywhere yet). She's especially proud because I have big agoraphobic tendencies, meaning I don't like to be around other people I don't know very much. Once I get going though I have no problem meeting with buyers or sellers.

I'm having fun doing this, it's only a matter of time before a juicy deal lands in my lap. She'll be fully on board after that.

Hi DG family, I am new to

Hi DG family,

I am new to the family and have no wife support she thinks there's no way to make money from real estate and that i can't buy a property because I have bad credit at the moment due to me loosing my job 1yr ago. I can't lie to you it does bring you down when you are thinking positive and someone tell's you all the negative comments about why you will never succeed in real estate that's why I have been logging on every night for the past week, also
I wanted to know if theres any one from Bakersfield CA that can get with me and help me out? Thanks you guys are one in a million.

Stegalin...

Your wife sounds a bit like my husband - precious. I know once he sees me get going on a deal or 2, he'll do whatever he can to support me. Smiling

multimillioner...

I'm new too. Sorry about your job.

I know my husband will think I'm nuts if I try to talk to him about real estate right now, that's why I'm keeping quiet and learning what I can mostly at night too. I don't want to make him think I've lost my sanity just because I'm trying to help him fire his boss.

When your wife figures out that you have her best interests at heart, I'm sure she'll come around. Your hard work will pay off. She'll be loving you up and bragging about you to everyone she knows!

Jay

Thanks for the encouragement. I think a lot of us needed this thread! Smiling

damon

congratulations on starting rei and staying on this very supportive site!! this site is what will make and KEEP you motyivated!! i know it did for me! its great you both talk about and have the same goal of paying off the cc,s
let just say that you can make deals with no money!! just ask greg murphy and anyone else that has taken action with the knowledge dean shares.
Just to give you an example: on my first deal i got a single family home and sold it on a lease option. The house came with a empty lot next door.I sold the lot for no money down for $176 per mnth at a total price of $11000. now if the person wanted to profit with no money then they could very well have advertised this empty lot in the local paper or craigslist or sellpoint or totalview or anywhere for 15000 226 or 336 per mnth no money down just start making mnthly payments.......and started making money!!!! pay me the 176 and pocket the difference per mnth!!!! simple as that !!!!.......

play your strengths damon on the phone with buyers and sellers,do not give up...study and your wife will see you are going to succeed no matter what !!!
good luck my friend and let us all know how you r progressing!!

B.C, I agree!

I am British and a lot of people think I am strong but I call it STUBBORN! My husband is also a non-believer and only goes along with me "cos I am unemployed and it keeps me "occupied"! As long as the housework gets done he tolerates my hours on the computer! Also, when I set my mind to something, I don't care what anyone thinks I see it through.I moved to the US in 1988 and everyone I knew back home said "yeah, yeah, we'll see you back in six weeks". It's been 23 years now and I haven't been "back" once so I think I proved them wrong! LOL. A little extreme I know but you get the point. From being suicidal at the age of 20(I'm now 43), I now have the attitude that NOTHING can stop me from achieving my goals once I set them. And to everyone reading these great posts, Dean believes in you and so do we so don't listen to your dreamstealers, you have all the support you need right here! Prove 'em all wrong and get the life you deserve. As for myself, all the money I make in real estate will be going into a business account with MY name on it and my husband, who is a builder, will be working for me!
Stay strong and believe in yourself!

Time to step it up!

Reading these post is very eye opening. So many people with the same issues as me. My wife calls me a dreamer and that my head is in the clouds. Actually she said a different location, but this is a family website. I have my own construction company and cash flow is up and down. I want my future to be in REI, she want's me to get a "normal" job or she is gone.
So the pressure is on. I am going to make this work no matter what. She is a definite naysayer but I love her and my son very much and want the best for all of us. Like Laura Johnson said in an earlier post "just prove em wrong". I think that will become my new mantra. I'm glas I found this post. If there is anyone in the CT area who would like to team up or whatever shoot me a PM.
I'm pushing forward, HARD.

God Bless

Speaking as a wife of a construction guy AND as a future RE investor, I can see both sides of your situation.

I personally don't want my husband to get a "normal" job, but right now I'm glad he's looking for one. Later, when we can get steady income coming in, I won't mind whatever he chooses to do.

You're wife's probably feeling a little shaky right now. It's hard for a woman when her standard of living goes up and down. Maybe you could find a job you could deal with for a while and look for real estate deals at the same time. Whatever you choose to do, I'm sure your wife will get what you're trying to accomplish in time.

Glad you're pressing on! Smiling

agree with superbee !!....DOUG

i can relate to you doug as i had my own construction company for many years and it is a up and down roller coaster !! the problem is that it is a SERVICE bussiness and there is only so many hrs in the day.Reminds me of a thought that was in a recent book i read that stated if your in the pen business and u got an order for 20000 pens, you would call your supplier and have 20000 shipped then collect your profit.
IF you were in the service business as a massage therapist and 20000 mpeople wanted one then you would have to give them an appointment for years later......and kick yourself in the butt for not being in the pen business !!!

also i am sure your wife is on edge since the construction bus may be slow but i doubt she will be gone if u dont get a "normal" job.the first check that comes in for you in this UNnormal job,she will think to herself what she may have said to you that she did not really mean. Its tough owning your own service business and at times can be very stressful but now that u have this site and wonderful support staff AND DEANS BLOGS,TIPS,TECHNIQUES,books ......you cannot fail if you put forth the determination and action you just stated you are going to do !! "PUSH FORWARD HARD " i know it can be done because i am doing it and so can YOU !!
GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND AND IF I CAN HELP IN ANY WAY dont hesitate to contact me !!

BUMPING IT BACK TO THE TOP

GREAT INFO

Thank you Walt for bumping this post!

I had never seen it before and it was very interesting to read. I really like the information from Colleen and hearing the stories from people Like Tammy and Jay! Great thread Jay! I am not sure the post applies to me in the same way, but of course I hid my books and what I was doing from family and friends, until I finally told my husband after a few months and was surprised that he has seemed to back me. Oh he does give some negative comments like you haven't done anything yet, but he keeps helping me with various things. Also unlike others who feel the need to spend more time, my husband doesn't really care, since he is always working on his scientific papers, etc at night. He thinks I should always be working, so if I say I have to take calls or listen to a video training seminar, etc he will even make supper. Gotta go watch another seminar. LOL! He is surprisingly excited and he even came with me to a couple rei meetings, and at the last one he was surprised that I could talk with the more experienced investors, so he realized that I was learning and making some kind of progress.

I Now see that a shift has also taking place within me. I used to try, try, and try, but I kept saying, "I really hope I can really do this." Now it's not that those thoughts of doubt don;t creep in from time to time, but I realize that I am working daily and progressing and learning daily. I am networking and building my business daily and so I now see myself as an investor. Yes, I have not done a deal yet, but I am actively working towards my goal and believe I will soon be doing many deals. I will not give up!

I thought that this was a cool post! kuddo's to all that post great things such as this!

Thankfully for me! My hubby supports me as I support him! So we are great on that note! But at least this helps those that aren't as fortunate!
