The key is to stay focused 24/7 and never let anyone try to deter you from your dreams. As you become more successful in REI you will still catch flack from people, but this because your are gaining strength and knowledge about this world and they are still sitting in their own pitty. If you remain passionate about real estate it will all come to you. It may take a bit of time, but it will come. Many of the seasoned investors here started with nothing, but take a look at their stories now. Matt Larson. staying positive is an important aspect of being an investor. (actually it's an important part of everything but most people don't get it) However, keep your feet based in reality because somethings are out of your control and somestimes just won't work. The key to success is to know the difference and to go after the things that propel your life forward. Never be afraid to stop doing something that isn't working and change directions. While investing is about making money, sometimes it is about preserving capital until a better day.

...The great thing about life is each day we have the ability to decide or create a "good day." Dean often discusses you become the environment you surround yourself with. You have the ability to enter or exit any environment you decide to. Your environment and the people that are around you often become your reality.

When Stacey and I were starting out with real estate there were plenty of negative nay-sayers around every corner. That is what drew us to DG.com. I was amazed with the information and information offered. It make my bad days better as we continued on our real estate adventure. Keep moving forward. Believe and Achieve! - Joe

Chase You are doing fine just keep your focus on your goals. Maybe they think your a little cocky,I do but I think that's a good thing because that is what will give you your edge, I was the same way when I was young. Let me give you an example, I was about 27 while I was doing a addition for a doctor on his building he asked me if I could put up another building for him on that site. Now I never did a building from scratch, but I was not going to tell him that. So I reached down grabed a light bulb (hadn't planed it it just was a spur of the momet thing).I handed it to him, he asked what that was for I told him to go out in the field where he wanted the building. I said hold the bulb up in the air and I would put the building up around it. We signed the contract wright then and there. I gave him the keys to the building 13 weeks later,and that was in the middle of a bad winter when we did it. So my point is if I had not been so cocky I would never have done that.

From door knocking to phone time we all run into negative people but one thing for sure,this site from the first timer to the old timers they stay positive and are willing to help all.

I have to say I like your story, James. It's pretty bold and impressive, and probably unexpected from the doctor's point of view. I'm not saying that being cocky is the right thing to do that works, but if it works, go for it. I know what works for one may or may not work for another. I have to say there is a lot of negativity in the world today. The positive thing we can rely on is a 2nd home of support, from everyone of the DG family. They have a way of putting things into perspective - something that you may have never thought of doing or thinking about before. I want to thank you all for that.

Doin something right for DG admin to put my post on the main page. That's what I mean just seeing my post on the main page gives me that motivation and determination to keep pushing through and it means more than you all will know......really. No I'm not bragging by no means but it feels good seeing the positivity all throughout DG.com and what can be done.......by anyone that wants to make the change whether your a seasoned investor looking to change your game up a little to get that new "edge" or people like me just starting out and learning little by little, but again thanks everyone for the comments and the support.

Yung gun- you definitely have what it takes, stay positive! Keep moving forward no matter what anyone says...keep the dream. I live with a dream stealer, one day I will be stress free living my dream and he will be in the same spot where I left him.

Thank you for all the support and the positive mindset. In my opinion that's where it all starts is getting the naysayers and negativity out of the way and take that step forward to a better life. That's what I am choosing NOW not 20 or 30 years down the road because I don't want to GUESS where I'll be but I WILL KNOW where I'm going and what I need to do to get there (and again.......in my opinion I think I am THE MOST MOTIVATED AND DETERMINED person in REI and will not accept defeat I learned that the first day of basic training and it's stuck with me ever since. So to all out there no matter your obstacle, situation or circumstances it CAN BE DONE! Just take the ACTION and run with it. Either way you will be surprised at what you discover and learn along the way.

And to Lane yeah I know man it would be the coolest to be able to hangout at EDGE and discuss EVERYTHING but I'm actually talking to my NCO's and Co. Commander to see if there is any way I can make up what we have going on then, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best so I'll keep you updated! And maybe just MAYBE I can make it to EDGE 11 but I'm not getting my hopes too much!

Hello everyone,

I especially like the above statement. The dream is your's, someone else did not dream it for you; your success comes after the steps you have taken not someone taking those steps for you while you sit on your laurels.
Like any other desired change in our lives, be it quitting a nasty habit, or controling our weight, the bottom line is we have to do something about it. Nobody else will make those changes for us!
