OfflineWell, here I am! After seven weeks of devouring this site every single day for six to eighteen hours per day, I am finally starting my journal.
I never saw any of Dean's infomercials, but I did see the last five minutes of The Hansen Report when he was on as a guest. So I ordered the book. I was just ready. Of course, I had been "ready" many times before. Like so many of us, I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of "Get Rich Quick" deals and none of them ever worked. I have participated in dozens of the MLM deals and (sigh) am still dead broke.
But this was just a small investment, and I took the chance! What the heck! I could always learn a little more. I am admittedly, a self development addict! I know enough about MANY things to hold interesting conversations with just about anyone, but I am an expert on nothing.
But that is going to change! I am going to become an expert at REI! I had just gotten my RE license here in CA a few years ago when all heck broke loose and the market collapsed. I worked my tail off for six months or so without making a penny and when I was going to have to invest in more classes or let my license go, I had no more money to invest and let it go. My husband had recently died and I had to go back to work for money. Ugly thought...
When I got Dean's books, I knew enough about RE to see that this one could REALLY work. He gives us ALL the steps!
My three daughters are all grown and gone from home, so I have no distractions there. I do have a full time job, but whatever...
I devoured Dean's books and immediately got on this site, where I have been planted for weeks! I saw that Anita was in Southern CA and tried to contact her, but no luck. Then paydirt! On one of her websites I saw that she was having a probate workshop and signed up! I was SO excited! I made up an excuse to be off from work that night and my daughter got out of her plans so that she could go with me. The night before the workshop, I went back on Anita's site to copy the info and realized it was dated 2009! A year ago! Thank goodness, I didn't make the three hour round trip. But what a bummer!!!
But now a lucky break! I am having to have my knee replaced (well, that part's not so lucky) but I am on temporary disability leave with my job for at least three months! I actually am not planning on going back until after New Year's, but they don't know that yet. Should give me some good time to get things started with REI!
Like Carol said when she started, failure is not an option! It is what I must do! I am closing in on retirement and I have no retirement plan. My job is very physical and I cannot keep doing that! (explains the bum knee) and I cannot have my children having to help me pay my bills! I have been totally independent since the age of 16 and am not planning on that changing.
Today is my birthday! Both in real life and symbolically with my RE journal and my new life as a Real Estate Investor!
I am thrilled to be one of the new Graziosi Investor babies! (I did NOT say babes!) So here's to us and many years together sharing our highs and lows!

Cleaned off your old Senior Members chair so I could have it. Yes they finally promoted me to Senior Member here. Site Enthusiast didn't fit anymore I guess. The Academy, mother nature, my situation and time has given me a rude reality check which via my own soul searching has taken some of that fighting spirit away you talked about.

I am so sorry to hear that things are still so tough there. I know you have been working so hard. Sometimes it can be very hard to keep your chin up.
You just have to make the decisions when is enough enough? Or can I go a little more. Or just rest a little and recharge.

Some of you are aware that a couple of weeks ago, I went to San Francisco and visited Valuni. We had a fantastic time.
We traveled into the city and Sausalito and had some delicious food. Valerie showed me some of the properties she had been looking at and we brainstormed techniques and shared sources and info. It was a valuable experience and made us even better friends.
She is lucky in having a very supportive spouse who is also a very nice guy. That can be something that can definitely make or break you as an investor.
Hopefully, this will be the first of many visits back and forth for us!

Tuesday I flew into KY where my parents and a couple of my siblings live. I have been talking RE with my brother until about 1:30 am almost every day since I got here. He is such a smart guy and already understands how so many things work that he gets the L/O concept totally and has VERY intelligent questions regarding it.
I am wanting to help him get started in L/Os here and be involved to a certain extent. We shall see what happens there.

Yes as you can probably tell that property in these neck of the woods can be very pricey. Prices in some places had a very little dent in terms of prices. Glad you enjoyed your time up here.

On my way to GA I met some additional friends in KY for breakfast. What had started out to be probably a one hour breakfast gabfest turned out to be a three hour business meeting! These are very dear friends that I have known for years. They are also very intelligent and ambitious.
As many of you who have been around me for very long know, I am a big believer in the Law of Attraction. Steve and Maria (the friends referred to above) had been talking, just this last week, about looking at a couple of possibilities for expanding their income. One of the options, naturally, was RE. But they weren't sure which way to go on it. When, out of the blue, they get a call from me, who was going to be passing thru their area and wanted to get together for a quick "catch up". That was all it was supposed to be.
But as all of us know, once we have the fever, RE is all we can talk about. We are obsessed! And excitement is contagious!! I gave them some info to check into L/Os (my area of obsession) and, of course, this website to ck out and we will probably talk next wk when I get back to KY. We may go into business together to some degree in their area. And they are far enough away from my brother that there would be room enough for both.
I am so excited about all of this (investing) and if I can bring some of my friends and family along and help them be successful, I am so FOR it! I went over a lot of things like HELOCs, etc and we all left very excited!

I spoke with Shirley (sphi99) yesterday, who is in Anderson, SC. We are going to try to meet for lunch this week when I am in transit from one city to the next!
This is an EXTREMELY full tour but it is turning out to be so much fun! Definitely working in enough business to make it a "write off". I am absolutely LOVING meeting all these DGers in person!!!
