i'll give it a shot

hey george...i guess i'll try to break the ice.

since this is miscellaneous news, i will make a brief comment about my miscellaneous start to real estate investing. i bought the books a few months ago as i was running out of money from my job. see i am a student in grad school, and the group i was doing research for lost their funding. we had been doing a lot of work to help rebuild communities and empower citizens, but that kind of work wasn't worthy enough to keep funders interested, and we began to make cut after cut, until they told me they no longer had money to pay me.

i guess i took it in stride. probably more honestly was that i had come to expect that sort of thing, that i would move from job to job making just enough to rack up debt. then i saw an ad for another program and did some research, where i found people raving about dean's system. i took a chance, bought the books, and read through them.

i was so excited, and finally started to see myself as being successful and providing a proper life for my wonderful fiancee. but i kept waiting and waiting. i made excuses, like i didn't have enough information or there was some angle i wasn't yet seeing. i tuned in to the website and read people's posts, watching as others struggled but pushed through and began closing deals.

recently i decided to stop the cycle and make a real change. i can't explain what happened, but there is something fundamentally different about how i am seeing the world and my place in it. it took me four plus months to get off the sidelines, but the time has come for me to stand up and do rather than sit back and think. i know that learning comes from being active and doing, and the information i am afraid i am missing will present itself when i need it. all i have to do is do, and i will succeed.

i know that's probably not what this forum was intended to be, and there may be another space for the kind of rambling that i just gave, but i needed to say it, to hear the words declaring myself worthy of success, and so i thank you for reading it, and i appreciate the amount of love and support i can feel from this site. thank you

Thanx again Guys, for your positive replies & inspiration as I received my Gain the Edge H.S. Course just 9 days ago but I’m unable to get a decent start on it due to unforeseen interruptions.

Does anyone have any suggestions how I should best study this course.

Many thanx,

How to study the Edge course

Hi George,
So glad to have your participation on the site and that you took advantage of the Edge home study course. It can all seem so overwhelming, can't it? There is lots of great information in the books, in the home study course and on this site.

I suggest two things. First, continue to be an active participant on this site. Even a simple "way to go" or "great job" can mean so much to someone and builds confidence in both you and the person you respond to.

Second, it's like eating an elephant...take it one bite at a time! Smiling

Don't worry about how long it takes you, just do something every day towards your goals. Coming to this site to read something counts. Look at Craigslist for properties. Open your newspaper. Drive around your town with you eyes and mind open looking for opportunities. And of course, make the time whenever you can to look at the Edge workbook and pop a DVD in to watch.

When you have the mindset and have activity happening towards your goals then you draw opportunities to you.

Wishing you all the best,
Nancy D.

I have the same problem

I received the EDGE one week ago and for one reason or another I haven't finish the first DVD. What I'm doing now is selecting one hour a day to go thru the material, I'm telling my kids that I will be in my room for one hour studying and shut down my cell phone and my home phone. I'm telling them that unless is an emergency don't bother me for that time. So far the first day work out, that was Saturday and today I will continue. Maybe you can do something similar.

thanx for the advice

Hi Nancy,

Thanx for your advice & I’ve made the decision to study the course for at least 1 hour to ½ of a DVD at a time.
