About Me:

I am married to a beautiful lady from Peru and we have two children. I had worked in the IT industry for 27 years until the end of February, 2010 when my job was "eliminated". I do not want to go back to life in a cubicle! The people that I worked with for the most part, have not been excited about their jobs in years. I do not blame them for that, there is a lot to deal with these days in corporate America and they are very well aware that they may be the next ones to go. I've done the grind. It's time to follow my passion. I think real estate is exciting, dynamic, and never a dull moment. I am looking forward to my first deal by the end of April.

Onward!

Followup: I have done two deals now. The first in Des Moines, Iowa in which I partnered with another investor on a rehab. This is about 4 hours from my home. The second deal is in Minneapolis, Minnesota in which I also partnered with another investor to do a rehab. This is about 45 minutes from my home. We will begin the rehab on this property this week!

Hey Roger,

How'd that deal go for you? What other REI deals have you done? Got anything currently happening? Hope all is well with you....looking forward to your reply.

Hello John,

We did not get our first deal but we have another offer in that is quite likely to be accepted here in a couple of weeks.

Once we get settled (move) into that property we should have a better base from which to launch more real estate investment.

Thanks for stopping by! Never a dull moment... tomorrow I will be talking to bankers in person for the first time. I am now preparing my song and dance for that new experience.

I am resigning from my 28+ yr private school teaching job...unlike you I don't have a 401K to role over...shame on me at almost 55 yrs of age I didn't plan a retirement...good news...I'm going to have plenty of time beginning July 1 to do REI...what i'd LOVE to know from you is how is it going...unemployed a year ago and doing REI?? I have a good feeling about where I'm headed in REI...as far as learning all I can and just doing it from July 1 on...Love to know what a year later might look like for someone who has made a similar decision to what I will do...

Does this request for info make sense?

Any info will be helpful,
Miss Tish

Hello Linda Ann,

I apologize for taking so long to reply I don't usually look at my profile page. From just reading a couple of things that you have posted it sounds like you might already be where I am at now. I now have 5 properties too. 1 rental, 1 rehab, one primary residence, and 2 newly acquired properties to do rehabs on (or possibly assign one).

Ah yes. One year later and no job. I say good riddance to that job! I am very happy about what I am doing now and honestly I think I worked in corporate America for 10 years too long. I am loving real estate. It seems that there is a solution for every challenge... For example it seems that you have succeeded in getting deals done even though you do not have a 401K.

The first thing that comes to mind is to ask you, have you got any equity in your current residence? If you do... take out a HELOC immediately. You and your husband are currently employed and the HELOC is the cheapest money you will find. I wish I had done that before my job was eliminated.

I plan to do an update on my RE journal so if you want to know where I am at you could check that out. It's under RE Investment - Twin Cities or something like that!

Best wishes to you in your new RE adventure.

Roger
