Dean Graziosi Weekly Wisdom #153 - When Negativity Becomes Destructive

Speaking and feeling happy can be hit and miss. One day you’re up, the next you’re down. But what if your focus is down more than up? What if you are more negative than you’d like – what if you are being overcome by it?

Get Dean's New Book "30 DAYS TO REAL ESTATE CASH" Right Now

Don’t suppose it’s purely a bad habit — negative or stressful life events have a tendency to stay with everyone longer than happy ones. It’s normal to spend time working through some events, when something went wrong, to learn from it. However, if negative thoughts are casting a shadow over a big part (or all of) your life, there are skills you can learn to stop them in their tracks.

One is to verbally and mentally take control of them - countering them. If you think ‘I’m worthless’ then say out loud ‘I am valuable and unique’…remember a situation where you felt valued, assured and calm. Bring that feeling to the front of your mind. There are quite a few other techniques, but today's Weekly Wisdom shares something else you can do to find a sense of joy and it works like a magnet in a bucket of nails…

wisdom #153

I use this technique on a daily basis and also spread the wisdom to my negative friends - hopefully, some will rub off Smiling

Negativity and my life

Living in a half-way house presently, what keeps me up is by listening to the others who have it worse than I do. They are always negative on everything and therefore their life becomes that. This is what keeps me going, cause I am not like them.

I tried your course, had miserable response from the real estate agents and could not go forward. Your inspiration to have to have this course work for me didnt work out too well. You are a great inpiration to me and perhaps to others. Keep up the good work.

Resilience...

Christian Fisher's picture

Thanks, Dean, for all that you do. I love these inspiring weekly videos.

Allow me to share a thought of my own regarding stress.

Stress may knock even the strongest among us down, but resilience is what empowers each of us to get back up and keep going.

No matter how strong you become, you will always have vulnerabilities. You can still be overpowered. Building inner strength is essential to living, yet we also have to create resilience. Resilience is your ability to get back up and keep going after you've been knocked down.

Helping others in worse positions than you is one way to activate that resilience from within you. Actively being grateful for all that you DO have within you and in your life helps strengthen you by letting you get a firm footing on the present moment. Focusing on just the very next step to resolving something, rather than all the steps ahead, can activate more power within you to take that next step toward resolution.

Sometimes life knocks us down, but never mistake being knocked down for being weak. The best athletes dare to lose more than others. The best business leaders dare to fail more than others. The best soldiers dare to die more than others. Dare yourself to keep showing up to the challenges you face. Dare to know what you want and take steps to create it. Put the best parts of yourself forward. Let those who care about you surround you. Get back up and keep going.

Something positive for you Dean

You're looking more "jacked" in the blog this week. Looks like your workouts are going well - that's something to be positive about!

negativity

Dean, thank you-- of all the people I listen to, I always know I can turn to you for positive motivation from that enthusiastic, beaming face! I agree that people's attitudes tend to be too negative, which undermines and prevents a lot of positive action in this world. My perspective on the actual state of things is that it is bad and will continue to get worse in the natural. I don't even believe that the dollar will remain viable much longer. But I have a joy and hope and peace that don't "make sense" in view of all this. My hope and peace come from the Father above, and the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. His followers have many financial responsibilities, which I am personally really trying to improve on. I mix faith with real world action from you.

You are so right

Dean, Great blog this week (as always), but this one especially hit home this week. I have wasted too much time complaining about this and that and why this wasn't working, etc... Once I stepped up to the plate and stopped feeling sorry for myself, things started to happen.

I am just about ready to close on my first deal or maybe 18 of them. I have 18 properties from the same seller who I have found a buyer to buy all of them. Just waiting for the details to be ironed out and the closing date.

I am thinking positively that this deal with go through. This has given me the confidence to turn my negative situation into a positive one.

Thanks for keeping us grounded and looking forward!!!!

thawing out!

jholden's picture

Thank you Dean for your message and thanks to many for sharing their OVERCOMER stories.

I've been in a frozen state the last few weeks not getting out there and following up on all I've gotten stirred up for my October deal. So much opportunity....and I've been stuck. This message truly helped me get thawed out and focused again on - ACTION. As of today, I am also reading your book, Be a Real Estate Millionaire,(one I had not read!) and the chapters on Removing Mental Blocks to Success and Eliminating the Fear of Failure are exactly what I needed. Thanks for being so true to your self and desire to help others.

So True! So True!

Dean you are so on point!

So many good comments here.

Helping other's is a very good method to feeling better.

My wife and I constantly remind each other of the fact that things could be a whole lot worse.

We should also remember that, "Life Is Only A Test" to help us become who we are meant to be.

If we stay in the fight inspite of the failure's, We Win!

Less Fortunate

revdiver's picture

Helping the less fortunate is a great idea to reel in the negativity that we express in our daily lives. It's great to feel fortunate and grateful for where we live, who we are and what we are capable of. It never hurts to give of yourself and your time to the less fortunate and to try to bring something positive to them. Even if it's just a smile and a lending hand.
I also feel that it's good to "hang out" with those who are more fortunate to help focus on higher possibilities. Another Anthony Robbins paraphrase that I like is what we focus on consistently. we achieve.

I agree that the workouts are working! I'm jealous. Back to the gym for me!

Wow Dean! You hit it on the

travisderod's picture

Wow Dean! You hit it on the head. And, good afternoon. This world is full with negativity. We have to watch less or no TV. We have not focus on the newspapers and what all these negative reporters are saying. I really don't believe that this world is as bad as they say it is. But, me myself, I'm big on personal development. We have to constantly better ourselves. We have to have a Positive Mental Attitude at all times. I truly believe that all news stations and papers were made just to promote negativity.

Positive Perseverence

Kasi Phillips's picture

Hey Dean,

I know exactly where you are coming from because when I started out pursuing real estate and the internet. My entrepreneurial journey so to speak,I hear negativity from the people closest to me still.

Family members and close friends. But I thought to look at it from a different perspective. I tried changing the subject it worked sometimes.

My conclusion was that it's only conditioning and their index for change is really low. Even though they say that they support you. Harsh as it may sound I literally had to cut people off.

People are used to reporting bad news 90 percent of the time without realizing it.

Today's blog

I haven't sold a home in 30 days. It might be 90 days or more, but I'm working on it. It will happen. Yesterday I was laid off from employment.
That is actually a good thing. The entire job site is covered with negativity. I'll find another job, a better job or sell that home! I can sit and wah-wah, or get the ball rolling. Thanks for what you said today. You are absolutely correct.

NO MORE NEGATIVE FOR ME!

Phil Wentworth's picture

Hey Dean,
You timing is great as usual for me. I have been watching the negative news, have negative friends and jokingly have said many times “I eat a little bit of cat food every day, so when I get old and have to eat it all the time I won’t have any bad reactions to it”
It gets laughs and surprised looks as people wonder if I mean it, but I don’t want it to be a self-fulfilling prophesies. So I just decided to stop with the entire negative news and the cat food talk, and wouldn’t you know, I saw your weekly wisdom # 153.
I believe in fate as well as miracles, and all will be well!

A Message From God

david_purple's picture

Wow me and my wife both really needed that reality check when we saw this. We were both stressed and after we saw this my wife said, "Ok. I hear you God." and I couldn't help but feel the same way. You may not realize it Dean, but the Holy Spirit is speaking through you often. For those that have ears to hear let them hear.

Hey Dean!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. They are greatly appreciated.

The Negativity Monster

Great blog Dean.
I think that message can be applied everyday not just every week! May Allah bless everyone of the DG family. Whether you're religious or not is not the point. I want the best for everyone out there who is dealing with their own stresses everyday! I think everyone here is stronger than even they give themselves credit for! Negativity is present everyday, but so is Positivity!

Weekly Wisdom

NancyH's picture

Thanks Dean. Great advice. You pulled me up and out of the blues earlier with your wise words:
"Be grateful for the things you do have.
Be grateful for the opportunities put in front of you.
***Laser focus on your goals.
What you focus on is what you get.
Focus on tomorrow - never worry about bills.
Don't get paralysis by analysis.
Get out there and take action.
Focus on solutions.
***Take action sooner than you think.
You can succeed if you believe you can."
God bless you Dean.
P.S. I'm excited because tomorrow I'm attending 'Boots on the Ground' training and I just can't wait!

Is it wrong to see things as they really are?

I know your heart's in the right place Dean but I have to respectfully disagree with your take on negativity. There's an awful lot wrong with our world right now (if this weren't true you wouldn't have people occupying city parks across the country to express their outrage about the rampant corruption of corporations, banks, and politicians).

These people have given up the comforts of home to live outdoors for many months at a time. No one would put their life on hold and make this sacrifice without believing that the country is in crisis.

While it's certainly important to have a positive outlook whenever possible, you also have to be a realist. Nothing will get fixed until we all acknowledge that problems exist and resolve to do something about them. If an ostrich ignores a predator by sticking its head in the sand, the predator won't go away. It will only be empowered!

America and the world are in a lot of trouble right now and we all need to expose the reasons why and deal with the people and policies that got us here. Maybe your friends are closer to the front lines than you so they see where the country is going more clearly. As you know, freedom isn't free and we won't hold onto it by just thinking happy thoughts.

I could say so much more as I've followed Occupy Wall Street since the very beginning and most of the mainstream media coverage has been deeply biased and inaccurate. Here's a link that more closely resembles what's actually happening on the ground http://www.mercurynews.com/opinion/ci_19100150?nclick_check=1.

These protests are a worldwide historic event and they're happening for a reason. Nothing would be more positive than dismantling the system of commerce that has enslaved humanity for nearly a century. The following links explain why . . .

Great Weekly Wisdom

trivoli26's picture

Thanks Dean for the great inspiration.
The same principles as the Secret\Law of Attraction. The only way to beet negativity is to be thankful for anything and everything daily.
The more positive you are, the more positive results you attract from the Universe and less negativity you attract. ASK, BELIEVE & RECEIVE.
Also the same as the Power by Rhonda Barnes, but with the emphasis on LOVE, you must express, show, feel at least 51% of Love to reep a more positive life.

Same principle as a farmer who has 2 seeds to plant, one seed is corn, the other is Nightshade, a poison. The farmer has a choice of what he plants, so he weeps what he sows.

So true

browleyteam's picture

I am so blessed to have a loving POSITIVE Husband, and that we both strive to stay and be POSITIVE about everything. I know this can be easier said than done - but it truly does help to have that partner in crime to help you, and a loving supportive family that gravitates towards GOOD things and not all the negative.

This is habbit forming, and once you make this a POINT of your life, it will become second nature. Not that you can't have your days - as we all will/do!

I am grateful that I have positive people around me, and we will continue to help others be more positive in their own lives as well.

Good Blog Dean!

Not Dramatic

femailceo's picture

Dean, I don't think you were being dramatic at all. It is true that we all have stresses, but you had a very good reminder that we just need to stop and refocus. I know that I could stop thinking about my problems and go and bag up some of the detergent and other such items that I got on sale with coupons and take them to my neighbor whose husband is overseas and in the military. I am sure that she could use an extra hand and supplies and to know that her neighbors are thinking about her. Tammy
