I am irritated...

I have been seeing a post that talks about making even more money and wanted to post a reply that i thought we could all learn from... I am a little put off by how people try to make as much as they can on this business by being completely greedy! Just go do a deal, why are we trying to figure out how to screw someone over by charging people twice as much or selling the property at the highest possible price??

There is alot of money in any deal and even if you make $1,000 it is worth it is it not? I don't understand why we are trying to make this a greedy business, I think that totally ruins our rep and your personal rep. Just do the deal, and get onto the next one, who cares about making even MORE money... Maybe I just didn't understand but I just want to keep my integrity instead of getting caught up with trying to make as much money as possible!

We need to help people get out of their homes that are in a bad situation, give an investor a good deal while we make our money(BY DOING HARDLY ANYTHING), and help the end buyer get into an awesome house that is totally rehabbed and at cheaper price then everything else is going for. ?????

HELP PEOPLE people!!! That is all that matters!!!

In any business you have to

In any business you have to give before you get anything out of it.....think about all the websites that have free reports or free ebook offers before you buy. Or even free quotes, free estimates, free anything. Give and you shall receive...the law dates back to biblical times. It does amaze me that this still has to be taught because certain people are so into themselves and what they get out of it that they will never get it! You need to be passionate about what you do and what you do in any business that will succeed will involve helping someone one with something. You have to enjoy helping people and they will be more than happy to pay you for you expertise.

Stop selling and start giving! Try it for a while....I bet you people will be way more responsive to you than what you are used to. Eye-wink

Money & Alcohol.....

A lot of truth guys and do agree. But unfortunately there will always be someone - somewhere that has 'self' as their only motive. Usually if true transparency were their wardrobe; their lives, relationship and bank accounts would all be rather disappointing. ("God don't like ugly" as my mom would say - lol)! We really can't do anything about what someone else does or doesn't do. We can only control our actions and our reactions. We just have to step it up a notch, setting ourselves apart from the masses. As Dean said in the EDGE 2010 VIP Session (hm study course) "Money and alcohol will bring out someones true character" A LOT of truth in that!!!

Even if you did the deal and only made $500 that's more than you started with, you helped someone out of a bad situation and you have made another friend....what's wrong with that??

Being greedy

There are alot of people out there that are like that but it is good to see that there is really people out there that actually care.My wife and i help alot of misfortunate kids and while we went away for christmas the one kid stole all the money we had saved,but we'll still help kids cause we love doing it thank you for listening.

thank you for the post.
I even tried to give this contract to another investor at one time, and the owner called and said he wasn't comfortable with another one he had talked to.
Because of things that were happening in my personal life, said I couldn't help him.
But again, we talked as I didn't want him just hanging.
So I had just about a week ago sent the assignment contract. If someone would have came in with a buyer, I would have backed off because I was lost for how to help him.
But when I had drove out to see him and his home, we talked for hours. And as I said, there is now a good bond of trust.
Had another call not long ago from a buyer with some real issues, and I am trying to help him.
You know the strange thing that finally hit me, that God gave me things that weren't what I really needed to start my business, but He gave me the chance to show that I sincerely cared about these people before He would give me something more.
And I know the deals will be coming, and they will help me grow in wisdom for my business. And I know the foundation will be strong! And I will have made some good friends on the way.

the problem is there isn't much equity. If I could buy it, I would just for investing. In a great area, and comps are hard as he has a farm house and the homes in that area are newer and bigger.
But he is so sincere and going into foreclosure. He is behind 2 yrs on taxes, behind one year on payments. We just started to rent out the house and moved into an RV. His house is really a very nice, clean farm house near tons of trails, and a lot of recreational parks and tourist attractions.
Well need to get off the computer and get some rest!!

The problem with greed

is that it is a subjective term. We all have different standards and different needs. If I sell an assignment for $10,000 that goes toward helping me make my $20,000 weekly payroll for 17 people, is that more greedy than you selling the same assignment for $10,000 when your monthly needs are only $4,000?

If real estate is a business, perhaps business ideals should be the focal point. It is a hard fact of life, but if you aren't successful in this business and make some real money, you will probably not get to the point in life where you can help anybody else. Real estate is really a dog eat dog business. It is one of the purest forms of business available.

I feel that I help a lot of people on a number of different levels. But is there a limit? How about the tenant that asks for a reduction in her month's rent by $400 because she had an unexpected car bill? But how about if she asks for the reduction for 2 months? 4 months? a year until she can get on her feet? Where do you draw the line? BTW, I've never had a tenant offer me more money per month because I provide better service or I had an emergency.

Anyway, remember we are not the International Red Cross. It's okay to inject your beliefs into your business because it is your business. And we all have to live with the things we do. But don't confuse your right to earn money with righteousness. There will always be problems and you will never be able to solve them all. To put their needs before your own is foolhardy at best.

I totally agre with your statement. Taking a 10k vs a 4k assignment fee doesn't matter, it is doubling to where you are charging multiple fees to multiple people for the same deal or anything else where you keep trying to come up with some scheme to get more money. If I take a 10k fee that is because i provided a great deal for the investor, if my numbers are off by 4k on the rehab then I make 6k.

I am not arguing making money as any money we make is coming from someone else but all parties know that, it is when you try to get sneaky and cheat people that I think you should get drug behind a truck going 75 (not really).

I am doing this to make money, yes I want to be a millionaire by 25, that has been a goal since I started my other businesses when I was 19. Yes I want to have bigger goals like invest in huge commercial apartment complexes and condo properties, yes I want to become a billionaire one day, BUT... I want to be one that is not snoby, keeps his money to himself, or tips 10%. I want to see a single mom who is walking to work because she cannot afforsd a car and go buy her one. I want to maybe buy out a loan for someone in trouble, I want to leave a $500 tip for someone that seems like they have a great head on their shoulder to help out, I want to sponser kids that are hungry, I want to volunteer my time to help others at a food bank or give a missionary their entire operating cost for a year... Point is just go out and make a difference no matter how small or large it is, I should have put that in my essay!!

That's not greed that's business. you still wouldn't go into a deal knowing you were going to screw someone else. I can tell by your advise and posts you're not that kind of person you would just move on to the next deal.

How about a short sale maybe that would work. You can still put a contract and find a buyer using transactional funding. Then you could help him and make a little more yourself. Just a thought.
