Hello to my extended DG family!!
Well I felt it was about time to hold myself accountable and finally start my own journal. I think Rina’s idea to do this back in the day was a fantastic idea, so today, 8/10/09, I’m officially coming on board. I’m hoping to use this journal as a way to look back over the years and see how far I have come. At the same time, hopefully I can learn, inspire and motivate not only myself, but maybe one or two of you out there as well. Being welcomed as a part of the DG family is awesome and there really isn’t anything else out there like it, especially when it comes to REI. So, from the bottom of my heart, I THANK YOU all so much for your support, direction and kind words that many of you have already shown to me, and of course, all the individuals out there I’m sure I’ll ultimately interact with!!
For those who have not read my profile, let me first introduce myself. My name is Robert Burkett, and I live in the great state of (and definitely hot!!) Arizona. It’s not only literally 115 degrees out there in the middle of July, but hot when it comes to the real estate market hear in AZ as well. There probably isn’t a much better place to be, so I feel lucky for that! Hey, even Dean makes is home here so that has got to be a good sign, right! I’m also one of the very few who can call myself a true native which is quite rare in these parts.
I have been married to my beautiful wife for 11 years and I’m extremely proud to have four precious little girls. My oldest is 8 years old, and believe it or not, I also have triplet 3 year old little girls as well. Yes, I said triplets!! Take into consideration that my 2 dogs are also female; that leaves me with a 7:1 ratio! I’m so out numbered its ridiculous! Boy, I’m definitely in trouble! Needless to say, my life is never dull, or quiet for that matter! I attached a picture of my family so you can see first hand why I really need to focus on this REI thing!
I also have owned my own CPA firm in Scottsdale, AZ for the past 12 years which also keeps me even busier. I’m pretty proud of what it has become over these years and I truly enjoy being able to interact with many types of people and try to make a difference in their lives. Dealing with taxes, sometimes that is tough, but I try.
When I’m not working, which is rare, I love to attend as many SUNS and Cardinals games that I can get out to. I’m basically a sports junkie and love anything that is competitive. Since my skateboarding days are about over (not that I don’t still try!), I also love to play a round of golf hear and there. But you definitely won’t be seeing me put up any major wagers out there on tee box. I also love anything to do with computers and networking, including all the internet social services that are out there. It’s really amazing how well we can connect with the world today. Obviously, whenever I can, I love to be able to spend as much time with my family as possible, and on a good day you will possibly find me jamming out with my little girls playing some “Guitar Hero” on the Wii. On a side note, if you don’t want to waste thousands of hours of your precious time, NEVER start playing guitar hero… Man that game is addictive!
Other than that, I consider myself a pretty regular guy that just tries to live one day at a time. I put my faith in God and try to act with integrity & honesty, by being responsible for my actions, and working ethically in everything I do. As long as I have faith, wake up each and every day striving to be the best I can be, working as hard as I can, and TAKING ACTION, success and financial freedom could just be a deal away!
Again, I thank you all for allowing me to be a part of this tremendous community and I wish you all the very best. Please never hesitate to give me a kick in the butt, when it seems like I need it!!
Take care and God Bless!

Hey Rob,
I'm sorry to hear about your friends' unfortunate circumstances. I hope everything turns out well and I'll definitely send my prayers out to them.
In response to your BIG TIME entry, that's really unbelievable and I'm really excited for you. It doesn't sound like an amazing opportunity... It sounds like MANY amazing opportunities to come, and I hope they do.
Thanks a lot for your breakdown of an "independent contractor" the other day by the way. It was definitely helpful and I'm dead-set on finding ways to write off a lot of those expenses
Good luck, stay well, and keep the faith...
MY DG REI JOURNAL - http://tinyurl.com/m2o5jh
Well this is the first post in about 4 days, and the first time I have actually missed a day....
It's funny how life has such some extreme ups and downs. My last posts were so promising! I was full of excitement, promise, hope and then "BAM!!!", I had 2 really close people to me have some major medical issues happen. At this point I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers. You are all such great people out there in the DG community. I'm proud to be associated with you all! So far there really has been no change in their condition....
Then the rest of the week just got worse and I unfortunately was also in a slight accident, no fault of my own. A young girl just flew around a corner and right into my lane, but fortunatley I was able to react right away and swerve (sp?) to just barely hit her, but she was lucky. If I had been looking down, or not been able to react as quickly, I would have hit her door going about 35 mph. Now I'm in a small suv and she was in this little tiny car, so thank God I was able to avoid her for the most part becuase I really feel I would have killed her.... It was that close! AND, then she TOOK OFF! I couldn't believe it, so I chased her down and finally got her to pull over. Fortunately there was no real damage to my vehicle, unlike hers, but I took her info and let her go her way. Hey, we were all young once right!!
Other than that, the last 3 days have been nothing but "Turbulent"!
Looking forward to a fresh start tomorrow......
Goodnight!

I wonder why we are thrown the curve balls in life and bad things seem to always happen to the good people. Maybe it's simply becuase God just wants to have those quality people with him by his side ASAP in order to brighten up the heavens!
It's been a week since I last posted and unfortunately, I lost my good friend / client that I have had with me since my first days as a CPA / accountant. Despite the doctors saying he had a 95% chance that everything would go well, the 5% got him, and the Lord took him home. I'll miss him very much and pray for his family and children.
BUT, what really made it hit home, was that my father actually had surgery today for prostate cancer, which of course the doctors said he has a practically 100% chance to come out of it successfully. I was on pins and needles all day, but fortunately, the surgery went well and he is doing good.... I love ya dad!
On a good note, I'm very happy to report that my partner, who had a stroke last week, is doing much better, and has even come back to work already, so God was definately looking out for him, so I thank you all for your prayers. You know who you are!!
I appologize that this thread and some recent threads have not been entirely REI related but as I said from my beginning post, I'm hoping to utilize this journal as a documentary of my life's adventures which many times may not relate to RE whatsoever. I want to be able to share all the faucets of my life and hopefully that will entail a lot of REI stories and successes!
I did finally finish "Profit From Real Estate Right Now" and I'm now excited to be reading "Be A Real Estate Milionare"! I'm also going to be taking the plunge hopefully this week with some big time potential investors / backers including "Mr. Big", if I can set up some meetings with them this week. Hopefully all goes well, and at least one fear of the REI process will be out the window. When I know that the money thing is not the issue any longer, than everything else should come along much easier!
I hope you all have a great week!
Take care and God Bless!

Wow.... Time flies when you are having fun!! Well, maybe this year hasn't been so much fun, but I can tell you it has been by far, my most inspred year!
And a big part of that is a direct result of Dean and this great website and community. So I thank you all for the great posts, encouragement, etc. that always help keep me going.
I'm continuing to put together the pieces of this big REI puzzle on a daily basis and feeling pretty good about everything so far! I'm confident in all the networks and relationships I have developed, and getting everything in line to make that first deal a reality. I know that ultimately, things will eventually start to pop and I'll have a real life REI success story to finally share.
I read some more of Dean's book and also watched a little more of the Edge DVDs last night till like 4 in the morning. What a wonderful package!! I still can't believe what an incredible deal Dean put together for all of us...
Man, I wish I could some how stay up and work without rest for weeks on end... lol Seriously, how cool would that be and just think what you could accomplish. I know one thing, if you are an insomniac, I would highly recomend real estate becuase boy you could go real far!! My brother, whom is serving in the Navy stationed over in Germany, said the Navy has tested a pill or something that actually allows an individual to stay up & alert for up to 4 or 5 days, with no side effects after a good nights rest. Now, obviously, I'm sure this has been designed strictly for our soldiers who are put into some dire circumstance in the field of battle, but again, just how cool would that be? Big work project to complete.... No Problem!! Big real estate deal to wrap up.... No Problem! And especially in my case, TAX SEASON.... No Problem!! lol
I know, not entirelly realistic, but hey I can dream right! Tell you what though; given the amount of time that people are required to work today in order to provide for their family, I would not be surprised to see something like that on the market in the next 10 years!! Oh, wait..... They do have it.... It's called cocaine!! lol Sorry, just kidding, but true...
I think I'll just stick to my "natural" late nights till 4 in the morning and call it even!! lol
Take care and the best of luck for all those deals out there... Go get them!

So I'm speaking with a client of mine today that I have been encouraging to get into real estate and of course check out Dean Graziosi's books and website.
He asked me something today that I thought was very intriguing... For some reason, he trusts my limited knowledge with real estate and basically offered me a proposal. He explained that he thinks he can find good deals on properties all day long, and wants to simply find them and put them in my hands for analysis and ultimately passing them on to a buyer / investor for a bird dog fee! He would then just want to split the fee with me!
I felt great about what he wanted to do and I explained to him that initially, passing them on to other investors would probably be a great way to start, but ultimately, I would like to find a way to buy and hold. His thoughts were simply, "just pay me for the referral, or like I said, I'll split it with you".
My question is basically, do others out there actually have individuals that just find properties for you.... period? Granted, I would be the one doing most of the work involving the analysis and ultimately finding a buyer, so I think I would be comfortable with the arrangement. But, I know as I grow, and I do have the ability to do different things, I know I would want to help him grow as well. I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't necessarily want to take additional monies out of his pocket when I know in the long run, he can do much of this on his own... I guess the extra money initially would be great but I know he really needs an extra source of income, so it would be tough for me to accept him splitting it up. Call me crazy...
I guess I'll just see how it all plays out, and if God willing, he miracuously finds a ton of great deals, I'm sure there would more than plenty to spread around!
I'll tell you what though, it's nice to have good people put there trust in you wholeheartedly! I take pride in that and will never stray from that quality whatsoever...
It's almost 4 AM, so It's almost my bed time!!
Goodnight.........

Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day Weekend! I have actually been enjoying it after a tough work week. Although it has still been very hot & humid, we did get some rain the past couple days which is always wanted her in AZ. It definately was a nice change and cooled down the air just a little.
My buyers / investor list is continuing to grow and seems most individuals who I speak with are more than interested to get involved with REI in some capacity. Therefore, it has been nice to get some good feedback from these people. I also had the opportunity to see a house with an investor friend to simply learn the types of things to look for, notice, etc. I enjoyed doing this and definately helps to get your blood pumping. So if any of you need to get a little motivation kicked into gear, simply just go look at some homes... It will definately get you going a little bit!!
Everyone enjoy the last day of this great holiday, and then back to work!! Hopefully, finding some awesome deals and continuing to pursue your REI dreams!
Take care and God Bless!

You know this stuff is starting to work when it all becomes routine. I find myself simply thinking more like an investor on a daily bases and analyzing things like one. The interesting part is that more and more people are starting to recognize it!! It seems that the more people I talk to, the better I feel becuase for the most part they are all very intrigued by REI.
Tomorrow could possibly be a "BIG" day if you get my drift. If not, just read thru some of my journal and it should all make sense. Basically, tomorrow may include one of my most important phone calls EVER!
Although nervous, I'm pumped up and ready to rock and roll! I hope the rest of you also have a great day... I know I'm wishing for one! lol
Take care and enjoy the rest of this short week!

So I played a bit of catch up on your journals and you seem to be quite the busy one! It seems you should be acquainted with an old friend of mine, Sir Espresso! You have a beautiful family! I love kids and one day I hope to be blessed with a handful of healthy little ones. Im happy to hear that your fathers surgery went well. My Grandfather has had given us quite the scare several times. He's got kidneys workin at about 8%, he's due to have surgury on both knees possibly next month, he has had two heart attacks and now has a pacemaker- he gets a new battery for that this month.
Its exciting and very motivating that you have a growing list of buyers and sellers! thats great!
As ironic as it may seem, I dont know how I got it, but I was diggin up some notebooks a few minutes ago and in the stack I found a business card. It says "We buy Houses! We sell houses! Owner financing! No credit needed! No Banks!" has contact info and under his name says.... "Investor"!!!! You know thats exciting for me to find! well I told you that because on the back it says: "Property locators wanted! No Experience necessary, Learn while you earn from $500 to $1000 per deal!!" then theres a website that im assuming is for that purpose. So I guess there are people who make money for just finding property.
I'd like to know how all that worked out for you, Keep posting your journals! How did your "Big Day" go??
I hope it was great and I wish you and your family the best! Keep up the great work and stay motivated!

Hi Robert -
Hope you've been having a great week! First, like others here "enquiring" minds want to know how your "big day" went (I hope it was positive).
Just catching up right now on your journal. How fun that you got to spend time going through houses with an investor friend. That must have been a great experience. Lots to learn! And I'm thowing in my "two cents" on your question about what to do with your client/friend and whether or not to split referral fees. I believe that whatever you decide to do is just fine. You may wish to listen to your "gut," whatever the strongest instinct is, and that is likely the best choice; however, either choice is a good one. If I read it correctly you'd be working somehow together so a split of the fee is just fine. Also, if you have him keep the entire fee that is a good choice to because I do believe two things: that whatever goes around comes around (another way of saying "karma") and that there is enough prosperity out there for everyone. So what you actually have are two great choices with no downside.
All the best,
Nancy

Hey everyone...
Wanted to first pause and give respect for all the people that lost their life 8 years ago during the horrific events of 911. Of course my prayers go out to all their family and those affected by this tradegy on a personal level. I know we were all affected in one way or another.
A quote a friend says often is "Peace.... but never forget!". I know we will definately never forget the events of that day... AND, we shouldn't!
I would also like to thank our soldiers who have also lost their lifes fighting for our freedom and of course the ones that are protecting our county as we speak. WE THANK YOU AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU!
Also wanted to say thanks to Tracy, Elena and Nancy for your posts... I'm always so excited to log on and read all the great posts from everyone! This has got to be one of the, if not the best, REI websites in the world!
PHONE TAG!!! Yep, that's basically what took place over the last two days. Unfortunatelly, we were never able to connect one on one, but we did communicate by email and the good news is that he is still eager for us to meet one on one! So officially, everything is all good... Just a valuable lesson in PATIENCE!!
I hope you all have a great weekend!

Yeah just stop by to say hello. Its been nice interacting with you. I've learned in life and especially in REI that a closed mouth does not get fed. One of my goals is to talk to everyone I meet about the possibilities of buying real estate, and it feels like I can add everyone to my buyers list because everyone wants a house. "The American Dream" like you bombercpa A wife, 3 princesses, and a dog. LOL.
Well all that to say that I look forward to keeping the lines of communication open. One day we will sit back and drink beers or cookies and milk and lauch about these days when we had a computer and a dream to be RE millionaires. By the way I was reading your journal. How are things going with that big shot investor of yours. That sounded like a real good client, partner, or however you wanted to use him for your investment strategy.
WEll until next time.

MY DG REI JOURNAL - http://tinyurl.com/m2o5jh
Hey everyone!!
Hope you all had a great weekend! I know mine was bittersweet. The great part about it was with football season finally arriving! I spent most of the weekend just trying to get some things done around the house, catch up on some office work, and of course continuing to educate myself about REI with Dean's books and of course this website. I did go to my first AZ Cardinals game of the year but they unfortunately lost. Hopefully they don't have the Super Bowl curse! I know one thing, if they keep playing the way they did today, they definately won't be making a return trip! Let's hope things start to "click" for them soon...
Thanks to all for the recent comments. PATIENCE is a key in any business, so already being self employed, I am fully aware of it's power! I have some really busy days come Monday & Tuesday (Partnerships, LLCs & Corporation tax returns are due (MAKE SURE YOU GOT YOURS FILED if applicable), so I will pretty much focused on that. One more month, and all extensions will be done, and I can try to put a ton more effort into the real estate thing. Anyway, I will continue to pursue setting up my BIG meeting. Hopefully it will happen and of course I will keep you all posted.
The bittersweet part of the weekend was attending my very first client's memorial who passed away a few weeks back. It was good to see all the support and love my client / friend, Mickey, had and get a chance to officially celebrate his life. He was a man with a tough exterior, but once you were lucky enough to break inside, which I was, you found that he had a very giving heart. Perhaps that is why he was so successful!! A lesson to learn. Anyway, his bark was much bigger than his bite, BUT don't ever give him the reason to bite, because then you would be done for! I will miss him and cherish our business relationship and friendship forever. I would hope that all of you have the chance in your life to work with / have a relationship like this with your clients. Wish they could all be that way!
Take care and have a great week!

We did beat the Cardinals today....Ooops sorry, thats your team isnt it? Yep, Im a born and raised Niner fan. I did grow up in Cali I hope that doesnt put a damper on the REI support
Im sorry to hear about your friend. Im glad the memorial went well. Its always hard losing someone in your life.
You'll be in my prayers.

Don't know how I missed your journal until this morning. First of all you have a beautiful family, it's easy to see where your driving force comes from. Secondly I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, this part of life is never easy. But with faith in God it makes it more bearable.

Well I know Im going to enjoy this season I get to talk football with my new bud bombercpa. Personally Im a Giants fan and Im sure we want shoot ourselves in the foot like we did last year. So far we are undefeated but lets see how things unfold as we go.
Its cool that we have some other sports fans on this site. Because the drama, eb and flow of the game is very similar to success itself. It does not come easy and you have to fight for it. But if you give it all you got, when the buzzer sounds you are usually the winner. If some reason that week you lost the game you prepare for the next. But the key is you dont give up. The team who overcomes the most hurdles during the regular season wins the Super Bowl.
"Dont worry about temporary setbacks, Let them prepare and motivate you for the next game until you ultimately win the Super Bowl of your Investing season"
Aight bombercpa from what I understand, you got the Man in your hands. Just find out what he wants and go get it for him.
By the way....nice to have you back!
Thanks for the positive remarks but we got to do this together. In the coming months we should be able to bounce this REI money from NY to Texas like we were playing tennis or something. My daughters should be playing with your daughters on some exclusive vacation while we kick back and smoke cigars on the golf course or football field for that matter
Well Until Next time!!

I am extremely jealous you got to go to an NFL game! I think that is the only pro sport I have never gotten to see in person.
Success and Nothing Less!
Hope everything's going well buddy. I had a question for the CPA side of you. So I was sitting up late last night obsessing over all the little things I need to do and steps I need to take in order to get my financial life on track... This includes setting up my LLC, figuring out the specifics on filing taxes as an agent, etc etc... I've learned that it would be a very good idea to hire a CPA to help me go over everything and get on track. I was hoping you could give me some insight on how to go about doing this. Would it be smart to find a local CPA and hire them for an hour of their time? If so, how much would a consultation session like that go for.
What's new with you and REI?? Where do you stand??
Take care,
Steve

So I think I am finally all caught up on your journal...wow, what life has happened in the last couple months!
First off, your family! What a great picture! How blessed you are (as is your family!) It inspires me to get a couple good pictures up here of our little family (which is yours minus 4 kids/1 dog and plus 2 fish...ha! My husband, our Maltese puppy "Mia" and our two fish Abraham and Calypso.)
Mr. Big...what an awesome "blog follow" he is It's like we're all at the edge of our seats wondering what will happen next! Loved that meeting and 10 minute, 10 million dollar phone call. Ha!
Your father - I'm so glad his surgery was successful...that is great! I think it is awesome that you've dedicated some of your journal to the important people in your life. After all, it is for God and those we love for whom we are pursuing this journey in real estate!
My condolences to you for the loss of your friend Mickey. Sounds like he was a treasure to work with and to know. Thank you for sharing his story with us.
I am glad your partner is recovering from his stroke. That is wonderful news.
As far as football ---I am a Cowboys fan at heart as I grew up in Dallas, but I must admit, my football-watching is at an all-time low...pretty much Super Bowl only My husband is a big soccer fan and has attended every World Cup game over the last 12 years. Although he keeps up with all sports, he won't go out of his way for football, but will wake up in the middle of the night to watch a soccer game in China!
Well, on that note...hope all your filings have been going well, and keep us posted on your latest progress here! I'm sure we would all be entertained by any anecdotes from your 3-year-old triplets. They may just be the next up-and-coming real estate investors...could eventually be the youngest ones on Dean's site!

Hey everyone!!
I hope everyone is doing great. I know I have been SO busy I can't stand it, but after October 15th, I'll be back around to irritate ya all out there!! lol
Like I said, just extremely busy with the tax extensions that are due next week, so I'm sure you all understand.
Unfortunately, my partner that just had a stroke, just lost his wife to cancer that was discovered last week and she was gone five days later. I will miss her but at least she is now not suffering anymore. Make you realize to take every day and live it to the fullest becuase you never know what can happen.
Take care everyone and I'll be witing more soon! Oh, and s special thanks to Louisa & Tracy for saying hi! I appreciate you thinking of me!
God Bless!

I was sorta hoping you were unable to check your messages. I hate leaving voice mail. I never really know what im saying. Half the time I dont say my name or leave a number. hahah

Hey...
I actually did not listen to it yet! lol
I have voice to text, so it converts my message to a text and then sends it to me so I adon't have to dial in and listen. It works so good that I don't think I have actually listened to my voice messages in a couple weeks. Goes to show how busy I am!
