Works For Me!

joeyharp_2001's picture

Dean, the timing for me couldn't be better! I use the smaller 6" by 8" yellow pads. I keep them organized with little headers so if I'm looking for some past notes or current things, like addresses from rentals I've found from driving around, etc., I can go right to them. I knew I'd out grow this and in itself, too many pads can become its own disorganization. So I had just went out and bought a single notebook, about the same size as the yellow pad you're using in the blog. But I really couldn't quite think through how to set it up. As simple as it is, just TOO much on my mind. Silly, hey? Well, todays blog is on the money for me. I'm glad you thought it though for me. Thanks.

Also, I'm looking foreword to the Conference Call tomorrow night. Now I do have all my notes from your last conference call on a separate smaller yellow pad, so in this case i'll just take notes from tomorrows call on it. I also have notes from a couple interviews you did with Carol Stinson and one other person (I forget his name) on the same one.

At times when I take a break for lunch or something, I just grab this pad and I've got something to read. Friends say I'm obsessing, but as slow as it seems sometimes (while I'm still looking for my first deal with not much money), I'm really having fun doing this. I'm keeping my motivation at the highest possible level. I'm at the point now where it's basically a numbers game: How many Owners can I contact from what source: FSOB's, Rental Owners, etc. So every little bit helps, like todays blog!

I'm now putting in about 10-12 hours/day, 4 days a week, and about 8-10 hours on the 5th day. While I keep telling myself I'll take that 7th day off, I still end up doing something for a couple hours, like pick a new area out here in greater Phoenix, and drive around. I did this yesterday/Sunday, and finally went to a local bar & grill next to the Mariner's Spring Training Camp. While I was in there I met a R/E Agent who befriended me after overhearing me mention to the bartender that's I've been out driving around looking at houses. Over the next TWO HOURS, he helped me tremendously, he works with Investors all the time and while I let him do most of the talking, I finally opened up to him more... He's been around the block! I didn't mention the DG Family, but I have a feeling he's involved or knows others who do. I have an Agent who seems pretty good and seems to "get it", but she's got the flu terribly. I know this guy REALLY Understands. We'll see what transpires.

Thanks again.

Joseph

Good morning Dean. Just watched the weekly blog. TY for the tip on time management. It is so easy to manage one's time when you're on someoneelse's clock. But, when you work for yourself you need to manage your time even more. I will be using this for my children to help them manage their time as well. I live in MI. Please keep me in mind if you try private money lending out here!!
Have a great day!!

Thanks again for the blog this week. I will be on the call tomorrow. Also hoping we are can be a part of private money lending. Looking at an apartment complex that is a distressed sale, and got a call this morning from a seller wanting to sell a 4 unit building. He is needing to sell as he needs the money for a assisted living. Exciting opportunity. Thanks again for the blog. To all of our success in real estate.

I love the simplicity

steinway024's picture

I think we get bogged down in all the technology and gadgets we have at our finger tips and end up wasting a lot of time. The yellow pad method sounds great, and I am going to start it today. You are totally correct about simply writing things down reducing stress. Whenever I make a to do list I realize I have been magnifying the tasks in my mind. I want to incorporate the victorious purple pen into the yellow pad method! A hybred.
No offense to anyone, and least of all to you Dean, but often if we just remember KISS (Keep it simple stupid) we can accomplish a lot more. Very much looking forward to the call with Matt.
Thank you for teaching us.

I like this version

David and Kerry's picture

Hi Dean,
Great blog, I like this version of your yellow pad method. I used it before with some success but the headings were misc/current, to do, and urgent. I got stuff done but would get caught up because they all seemed like things I should be focusing on right now.(I don't know if that makes sense the way I wrote it)
But I like the way these headings flow, it sets a priority and my mind just functions best that way. Thanks Dean!

ON TIME

Dean, you are my confirmation. This blog is a "STRESS BUSTER" and right on time for us. You keep "HOPE" alive, and we are expecting this to be our "breakthrough." Our eyes and ears are open -- watching, listening and seeking supernatural deals.

Thank God for you and your diligent efforts, Dean.

Thanks for the reminder Dean!

The simplicity of the note pad is what makes is so MAGIC! Definitely implementing it right now because my brain feels like scrambled eggs at the moment with all there is for me to do. I too, have to actually write things down for them to sink in. A true "old school" tool to help one prioritize.

I'm really excited about the call tomorrow night. Can't wait to hear what's in store.

Thanks again for the inspiring message. You always come through.

yellow pad shot in the arm

Katie Taplin's picture

Dean,
the very first time I started using this system I became more efficient. It definitely reduces stress and keeps me on track. What happens to me is I set it down somewhere, because this system doesn't work for me unless I have it with me all the time, and I can't find it right off the bat so I get another pad. It gets pretty ratty looking too. It might take wearing around my neck but I'll get it down because I know it works. Thanks

Great Advice!

Dean,
Thanks for another great idea on how to get organized and keep on track with real estate and life in general.
What I like about your blogs is that you tell everyone something about you and how it has made an impact on your life and your Real Estate business. You tell it from experience and by doing!
Thanks!
Laura

Thanks for the Reminder

For another great blog. We are very interested in the properties you and Matt have. I hope they are in Illinois or Indiana and if they have a positive cash flow in place we would like to pick up one.

Veronica will be in on the call Tuesday but I have to work at the time of the call. I will catch the replay.

Also we want to here more about the private money you are working on.

Steve and Veronica.

phone training

Ho! and I can hardly wait to listen in on the phone training, I want to here everything you have to say, I hope Texas will be one of the states to get financing. I'm starting slow because of time, but at least I have started... Thank you so much...

Great Tool

The "Yellow Pad" is a great idea Dean. One of my old bosses always wrote down the things he wanted to accomplish the next day, and worked that list the next day. You have taken that idea two steps forward by adding in the "Soon" and "Eventually". I like your idea much better. I will incorporate it in my life immediately.

Thanks,

Ty

The Yellow pad

I started writing things down as you suggested on a previous blog last year. If I don't keep that list near me I forget to do what's on the list!! How crazy is that? SOO, I went out and bought a little journal that I can literally carry around with me. It fits in my purse. I try to take it everywhere. I have internalized so many of your suggestions. I am less forgetful and more organized. It's fun to go back and read my little book to see what I have gotten done since last summer. Thanks Dean, you are awesome.

Right on the mark

Thanks Dean for the great blog, as always you are right on the mark. The only way to reach "All" of your goals is to keep them in front of you at all times and this is a perfect example of how to do that. As an example of that, we bought your book 2 months ago and while I was reading it we got started. We now have multiple web sites ready including the one you provided through your book. We will be getting our LLC by the end of March. We now have a Real Estate agent on board in one state and will have a second in antoher state by this weekend. Our first goal is to make 30 offers per month just to start. We have also done much more but for now this should give you an idea of what staying focused can do.

Thanks again,
Jim and Janet

Todays blog hits home!

Hi Dean,
Todays blog was a wake up call. Your colums and lists are the way I run my daily, weekly, and monthly "to does".Never thought of applying it to your game plan. Ive been with you guys for almost a year but still cant put a deal together even though I have some cash and good credit. Long Island New York is a tough and Expensive market!! Maybe I should look out of New York. I know your busy but if you could give me a personal e-mail shout, could be a great boost.
Would love to purchase one of your up and coming rented houses, maybe it would get my foot in the door.. Dying to do business!!

Thank you Dean!

Dean, thank you for the yellow pad lesson. I WILL be one of your success stories. I'm starting behind the 8 ball on so many levels but I know I am in the right place to change all that. My next step is to join the success academy and for the first time I'm not afraid to be a little naive. Thank you Dean...God bless.

Just what I needed

I don't say much here but do appreciate all that everyone else shares with me. Thanks to all who are more social than I. I learn something every time I come here because of all who are here helping.
