Weekly Wisdom #269 - 2014 Kickoff

I hope 2013 was a great year for you... and here is the great news: Whether it was spectacular or drastic, it's behind you. Either way, your past is there to be research and development. So now it's time to take those lessons and use them as wind behind our sails and make 2014 a year or transformation and fulfillment.

This week I dive into how to to crush the old stereotypical "New Years Resolutions" and start making solid steady progress that will make all other years jealous of the success you will achieve.

Are you an Insider? No? Not sure what it means? Then go watch this special training video and see what all the fuss is all about.

2014 Weekly Wisdom #269

We too have found that making small incremental changes has benefitted us. Smaller changes, well managed, and thoroughly implemented are far more easily controlled, and can be readily modified to produce expected results. This then, builds a foundation from which additional changes can be launched with predictability.

Watched the weekly wisdom again last night to set goals for the new year. Helps to just make small changes everyday. Love that you put the video's up on youtube now as well. I have a chrome cast and works well to put you up on my tv wirelessly via youtube. You look good on the big screen:)

Baby Steps

Thanks Dean. I will take the advice and rewrite my goals for 2014.

Happy New Year to you and your family.

Goals

yedinak's picture

Hi Dean,
I'm working on my goals along with putting it into the process of looking at them every day along with writing down what needs to be done everyday as a list. Writing them every night and looking at them again every morning. 2014 is going to be better then 2013.
Thanks Dean and look forward to the next WW.

You inspire me

Thank you Dean!

Your motivation truly leads to life-transformation. I have a much more positive mindset because all you give to us. I was literally clinically depressed because my profession does not inspire me and I know that I am too intelligent to work as a waitress for my entire life.

I haven't even done a single deal but I feel the weight of my darkness has been lifted.

Granted, it did not happen overnight, but it is because of the community that you have created that I am going to reach my goals.

God bless you.

Dean

I would like to know if you really reading my message or your staff doing it for you? I would like to hear your voice on the phone one day so I will know that I an not just a number to your web site. You have a great spirit when you teach. Thank you for constant motivation. I am working on my first rehab 4 bedroom house in Ruskin Florida. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Dean!

Yes, I realize this is a marathon. This is all so awesome to me! I've got my hands on this book "Profit From Real Estate Right Now" and can't put it down. I believe I have found a great REI club in my area, they meet once a month, and this will be my second attempt to attend next week. Later on this year I hope I can laugh at what is going on in my mind right now, with thinking things always have to be just right before I do this or that, I'm working mightily to overcome and am beginning to sense the empowerment from the progression of knowledge that I've gained from this site.
I am so grateful for having found this DG real estate investment family with all of the tools and positive interaction giving the power to change our lives.
Thank you Dean and everyone!

How do you eat an elephant?

It's simple one bite at a time, then as you progress you can more to the next goal. One deal at a time will get me to where I really want to be!
Fresh start for a new year.
Many thanks to all the weekly wisdom's, great teaching from you Matt, and all your top students.
Best wishes for the New Year 2014 Dean.
Your the best! Phil.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year Dean and all the DG family.

Goal setting has always been a problem for me as my goal was usually just to get as much done as I could in the time frame I had and be happy with the result. I just finished this method over the past week only this time I tried to incorporate the S.M.A.R.T. goal principles. It turns out I didn't follow one of the rules correctly. You see, my method led to the last 48 hours being sleep deprived, obsessed, driven and more ridiculously, driving 3 1/2 hours to make my delivery after not sleeping for the previous 27 hours then driving the 3 1/2 hours back home before getting some sleep. (I truly earned my old nickname "El Gringo Loco" this week. LOL) Today, once I recovered from my trip, I analyzed the situation and saw that I failed with one of those principles. You see, the goal I set for this order was not realistic. I would have needed to put in 24 hrs a day for the past 7 days in order to achieve the goal I set for myself. Totally unrealistic!! So I spent most of my trip feeling bad that I didn't accomplish what I wanted to and down on myself for failing when I shouldn't have. The problem was I never gave myself a chance! Too much expectation not based on reality. You can bet that from now on, every goal I set will be a smarter S.M.A.R.T. goal.

So in keeping with my other promise to keep my posts shorter Eye-wink, I will just say once again Happy New Year and Thank You for the reminder on HOW to make smarter goals.

I must I must set goals and evolve this year. I will feel great to make 20k. I will feel like a loser if I don't do my first deal. I do want to make a difference in my life. Thanks for caring and I have been making the steps and looking for the DAY I DO MY FIRST DEAL.

Happy New Year Dean.

One of my goals this year is to watch the weekly wisdoms on Monday mornings and post a comment every week. I need to practice on my laptop, small changes. Thanks Sam.

You must be on the top of Santa's List of good boys!!!

Well... The Frogman is back on track after a hiatus to enjoy the fruits of my labors w my family! 2013 was a great year to start back up in the real estate investment business. In review I was able to purchase & hold 3 Single family residences on my way to 21!! Thanks to Dean's seminar last year in Westchester, NY. I was able to get the motivation & drive back needed to start back on my goal to be financially free! I have since been creating business plans for my new companies in 2014.

Little steps day by day…lead to big changes over time!!

Thanks Dean and all those DG-ers who have helped me along the way!!! I look forward to the EDGE 2014 and all that has yet happen in 2014!!!

Dean, thanks for this very personal daily wisdom! Just the other day I was going over my goals for 2014, and I thought, "What will you do if you cannot meet those goals?" I considered how sad and deflated I would feel, and that is why I cannot allow failure! Thanks again!

2014 Kickoff

Thanks Dean. I often feel that I'm not going fast enough, but when I think of what I've learned and have been practicing so far, then I feel better.
I had a blessing years ago that told me to not go faster than I have strength, and to go line upon line, precept upon precept. It is a good reminder.

Thank you, Dean!

Thank you for the great advice. You're right on the money. I've been out with the flu for several weeks and the thing that got me motivated again to get up and moving again was reading my WHY and my Goals. And then the emotions I'd feel when I accomplished those goals and how I'd feel if I didn't accomplish those goals. It didn't take me very long to write them down and they were exactly what I needed to get back in the game for 2014.

And thank you for coming here week after week to help train and motivate us. I for one appreciate it more than you could even know.

Samuel

Thanks for the reminder

Thanks for a great WW Dean. That was such a great reminder that I don't have to be in a hurry to get things done. I have often let myself down because I would hurry to get things done, and when it didn't pan out, I would get discouraged and quit. I realize now that all I have to do is do ONE thing everyday to keep moving forward. Thanks for all you do for us Dean. Have a happy and prosperous New Year.

Incremental progress. Steady and small. Then suddenly a giant oak tree of success seems to "appear" in front of us! I've done the emotions type exercise you suggest and it is very effective indeed. Happy and successful 2014 to all. Be patient with yourself. Not everything happens at the speed of the internet and microwave. LOL

New Goals New Year

2014 Kickoff

Dean,

Thanks again to you and your organization for all the info, tools, advice etc. You are right, small steps usually provide permanent change. I know this regarding weight loss. I eat everything I have a taste for in moderation, and the pounds come off slowly. I always say I didn't gain this weight in one day, I can't expect to lose it overnight. I am committed to make 2014 a successful year in real estate investing. We had propery under contract, 5 two family houses last year, our first deal and all fell through. We reverted back to our "comfort zone". As a result nothing has changed. I believe in you and your investment tools and education. Actually I am truly amazed by it. I intend to take advantage of all you have available and change my life in a positive way. Keep doing what you do. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
