Very well put. When we started,people laughed at us or ignored us. But now the tables have turned. I get calls on a weekly basis for information, help, deals and money. All because we refused to give up. I can relate to your past very much so. I started as an orphan, (talk about rejection and confusion) but was lucky enough to be adopted in later years by a great family of who's name I now carry.

Everything stems from the mind...Henry Ford said it way back when "Whether YOU think YOU can or think YOU can't YOU are right!" YOU are in control of your own destiny. If YOU constantly make excuses or blame others YOU are giving your power away by not taking responsibility for the problem at hand. A really good book to read to fix your mind and heal your life is by Louise Hay "You can Heal Your Life" amazing! This book will change your life...life is just a decision, we all have choices, and we all deserve the best life has to offer! Like attracts like, like Jen said be a 10 to attract a 10!

It's easier for a lot of people to sit there and complain instead of getting off their duffs and actually start doing something with their life.
There comes a time when negative people and comments start sliding off of you a lot easier because you know in your heart what's true and what isn't and don't let it affect you anymore.

It sounds a little egotistic but we have to be in this for ourselves, not anybody else. The less we listen to negative people, the more successful we become, interesting isn't it?

Quitters never win & Winners never quit, it's as simple as that.

Hi Jen the truth will always prevail and what you said everyone should take to heart I can say with a joyful cry you are so right.I got beat down so bad in my earlier life I had a nervious break down and it took almost five years to get back on my feet through a loving Chiropractor with a loving staff that were so positive and so caring.So dont tell me you cant be the best you can be "IAM TELLING YOU YOU CAN BE!!!!!!!!!!!". But we have to be willing to change and in what ever area of our life that is holding us back and dont feel bad about it either.Id never let ANYONE TAKE ME BACK TO THOSE DAYS!!!!!!!!Yes Iam learning new ways every day and how sweet it is and the view is getting better every day.I also helped my Mom get a better life and I lost the whole side of my Fathers family along with him and the other two sibblings I had and was thrown(sp) off my Fathers property and never to be able to come back and you know what, what a wonderful blessing that all proved to be and Ill never go back, never!!!!!! It didn't get me down. They'll have to hit harder than that! lol Definitely have a lot thicker skin than that. It just got my wheels turning on how most people look for excuses, cast blame, take no responsibility, easier for some to say 'they're just lucky' lol
They hang on to something that happened 20 yr ago as a justifiable reason for remaining in the 'pain'!

My purpose to be 'a little vulnerable' on the internet was to hopefully show other we can CHOOSE to overcome any obstacle. Our past does not determine our future. We can say the buck stops here!! I choose to break the cycle!
I have absolutely no regrets of my past. It has made me into the person I am today. With out the struggles the victories aren't near as sweet.
I think we can tactfully show people that we aren't perfect. We make mistakes. I think it makes us relatable to others. If some judge me for a past that happened 20-30 years ago, that' their issue. I don't seek anyone's approval but my Lord and Savior! He didn't make a mistake! Every one of us has gone through junk and there will always be 'life' to deal with. Most everyone of us are not the same person we were a year ago, 5 years ago, etc. We grow, improve, progress, overcome and conquer everyday!

but I always told you that from the beginning. I could tell early on that you were a superstar and every day I see another one of your accomplishments. Keep up the great work as you are truly a fine women, mom and investor. You are a perfect example on why anyone can do this business if they have the determination to succeed.

Jen, that was a motivational speech if I've ever heard one. Such good advice for all of us. People who have been through hell and back seem to appreciate their success so much more than someone who has been handed everything on a silver platter. And like you said, you really have to make it a lifestyle. Just like when someone wants to lose weight and they go on a diet and then gain it back and then go on another diet, and then gain it back again. Once they understand that they have to change their lifestyle and their mindset about what to eat and what not to eat and how to exercise and stay active, they can do it! In REI, we have to keep our minds filled with new knowledge and listen to the more experienced and the ones like Matt Larsen who have made it! They changed their lifestyle, their way of thinking and now it comes naturally. That's what I've been trying to do the last few weeks and I have 2 houses under contract. I turned off the TV, I listened to Webinars, I rode around and looked for houses. In other words, I changed my lifestyle. If I want to be successful in this business, it won't come to me like you said. I have to go out and make it happen.

you are amazing! I have ALWAYS looked up to you! I want to share with you how I used inspirational dissatisfaction to turn around a deal just a week and a half ago I was ready to resolve as not being able to close. I began wholesaling it and lined up 3 potential buyers so at least I made a small payout on it. Set the backup plan in motion and SO wanted to keep this one, but resolved that I must turn to wholesaling it.

I felt really down about it, really mad at myself for NOT being able to close on a deal that could help turn me around significantly. But then I got on that TOUGH ARMOR that we develop as WARRIORS on our mission to change our lives, change ourselves and change our outcomes. I jumped into another deal immediately on the side to get my mind off of THAT deal that I was certain to lose.

I was able to focus on the new, positive endeavor and completely turn my mind around and go BACK to that deal I previously resolved was certain to not be able to close on and told myself that 'its NOT acceptable' to accept that in 48 hours I will lose the deal, and have to wholesale it. I made up my mind then and there to only think, I'm going to close this deal by April 5th! I remember another deal I lost that would have paid out over $150K, and how at that moment I vowed that NEVER again would I let something like that happen take over my now positive mindset.

I said it to myself at least 20 times and repeated it to myself every couple of minutes. I posted it right in front of where I stand every day where I work on my computer and looked at it and pushed through DETERMINED to close that deal. I posted on FB, I posted on Dean's FB, I posted in a few investment clubs, I asked for advice on how to make my offering more attractive to a potential PML or JV partner. On April 3rd, the day I was required to close by, I had a JV PARTNER who wanted to do the deal with me!!!!! I pleaded to extend the escrow and promised the funds would be coming in but were tied up (they were and had to be unlocked before they could be sent). 2 days later APRIL 5TH all the funds were wired into escrow. 100% of them, closing costs, all of them. (The seller delayed closing until today, but its now CLOSED!)

I let my MIND determine my outcome instead of the way the outcome was looking. If I relied on that, I'd have focused on the grim reality that was staring me in the face. All my PML and HML fell through, they wanted a higher loan amount, they were no longer funding in CA, they had just locked up their money somewhere else, they got scared because it was still too new to them. I GOT UP OFF THE FLOOR and decided to be the CHAMPION that is hidden inside of me, that I only have to ALLOW to shine!

After this deal, I got at LEAST 250 criticisms from the biggest pessimist and skeptic in my life; strong to the point of bringing me to tears on several occasions. But, AGAIN , I got up and wouldn't let that thunder be stolen from me!

THANK you for this post and your wonderful, wonderful words of wisdom! You are an absolutely beautiful woman of God, inside and out! You are a force to be reckoned with, and you are an inspiration to all.

Excuses and focusing on what outcomes 'LOOK' like they're going to be will NEVER move anyone ahead. Push through them like Jen did. And like I found the courage to do too! ANYONE can do this!!! But its up to YOU to determine whether you will or won't succeed... If you tell yourself that you are going to have enough money to , for instance, pay your rent this month, and KEEP telling yourself that, you WILL do it if you don't let your mind think about ANYTHING negative. IT WILL HAPPEN with your mindset , and taking all the action you need and letting NO excuse, and NO naysayer (a HUGE obstacle for me) stop you from doing what needs to be done to accomplish it.

It is CERTAIN we will SUCCEED! Can't WAIT to meet you at EDGE!

Jen, I just love you and Thank you for speaking your piece. You are truly a lovely person. I am going to bookmark this post and then I will come back and print it off tomorrow. You made so many impressive statements and I want to underline them and hi-lite them so that every time I start to get out of control I can come back and reflect on your insight.

I like it that Dean acknowledged your post. So wonderful. I am learning so much by being connected to this site. What a blessing it is. I do not know who said or did what in the pm's you referred to but I do know that it is not by accident and the good Lord knew that what you have to say will help a lot of people. Excuses be gone. We are each in charge and responsible to design our own lives and to make it work.

Now you got me fired up. That's what I love about this family. Other than KEB64, Keith, I have never personally met but are sincere & true about everybody's dealings. This site's been my benchmark as to where I am as a REI and where I need to go. As you have mentioned, personal growth is the biggest part. I need to be a TEN as a REI.

I'd also would like to give credit where credit is due - GOD. I believe He orchestrated contacting with Val & Keith through this site & now, we're in the process of me joining the "Ohio Players." I admit that being that this site's free & anybody can join in, I was a bit conservative as to what I post or contribute. However, as the Good Book says, "by their fruits, you will know..." You mentioned you were rough around the edges, what's this crack on head size as a baby? This reminds me of the recent movie, 'The Help.' My wife always repeats the line from that movie to my 3-yr old daughter: "You is good, you is kind...," kinda ad-lib it with "you is a 10."

right on the money. i tell people it's like being a christian. once you're saved if you don't lose some friends, you're not saved. you "think a little different". you act a little different. you DO a little different. i sometimes go back to old threads and rehash. i have so many bookmarked so i can just take a step back when i need to. y'all should too. it's all already been said. here somewhere are the answers to all your questions. they may not be the ones you want to hear, but they're here when you're ready.
