Other info: unemployment has always been lower than national average; I've been a landlord for the last 12 years and the market has always been strong; college town; Colorado is within the top 4 states for appreciation in last 40 years; year after year Fort Collins has been at the top of the lists for best place to live, raise a family, start a business, etc.

As far as my backyard is concerned, I currently live in Brazoria, TX which is closer to Lake Jackson vs. Houston. There are major chemical plants in this area, DOW Chemical and ConocoPhillips are probably the largest. This usually requires a lot of rental property in the area during shutdowns and turnarounds. That said, I've included Lake Jackson's info as well:
